This is the 2022 version of Rolling Acres, what a mess this place has become. On your next visit to a mall like this, make sure to bring backup. If something happened to you inside, you may not be able to call for help. Be careful out there, we want to keep watching your videos!

man, 10-15 years ago my stepdad would take me to see movies at the jamestown mall. the mall was pretty much abandoned except for the theater, but even now that's completely destroyed. what a bummer. on a brighter note tho, thanks for the video, it brought back lots of good memories and your artistic editing style is super cool.

There’s a whole lot more to the story. Too bad I didn’t know you was going to do this video. I spent 2.5 years there helping the caretaker keep it secure. The county made us leave in 2018. Jamestown mall tour here on YT was the video I took in 2017. after we left the county sold scrapping rights and it went downhill fast. Too bad they scrapped the giant sculpture in the center court. I tried to get a county sculpture park to take it there but they never responded.

Was this the statue near the start of that(at the time I visited) walled off hallway that once led to Stix, and later a furniture liquidation store? And it also wasn't too far, from where the movie theater was. If so, I REALLY wish that sculpture could've been preserved. Once visited this mall, and I get the sense it was a much nicer mall back in the day. At least the neon inside the food court still worked, when I visited in(I think) 2014.

    • @FuzzJBall
      @FuzzJBall 2 года назад +5

That really should have been snatched up by the county for Laurmeier park or at least a home found for it somewhere.
Those sculptures were a bit weird but definitely should have been saved.

I was 8yrs old in1980 so I literally grew up in the 1980's and going to malls and arcades was the fun thing to do on the weekends. It's sad to see these once busy and thriving malls abandoned or closing their doors forever.

This video really hit my wife hard. She grew up across the river in Roxana,IL. She would go to Jamestown Mall to hang out with friends and shop in the early 90’s when she was in high school. She said she even bought her prom dress there. Boy… your video of going back n’ forth between the apocalyptic mall today and what it once was almost made her cry. Plus that Forever Young song just burned it in even further. I wish your generation had the experiences we did. What a time you missed.

I grew up a few miles from Jamestown Mall. I spent many a Friday and Saturday night there and watched several movies in the theater shown. I drove by the old mall today after having left the area in 2000. While driving by I thought..."what happened?". There was a lot more graffiti on the outside than is seen here. This is a sad ending indeed. Glad you got out safe.

You really researched this. The last time I went there the furniture store was in the old Stix, so I guess that would have been 2011. It was actually a motel surplus store selling ratty old motel furniture and electronics -old couches, desks, telephones, etc. I'm not surprised they didn't last long. You could already see the mall was on its last legs, so I walked around and explored while I was there. The Stix store was mostly dark and the escalators didn't work. The unused department store cabinets and display cases were still there. The upper level was blocked off and there wasn't any access to the mall. You could look down on the abandoned wing though from the upper stories of Stix and see the empty stores and the wall closing it off from the rest of the mall. Very strange. In the main mall, the fountains were empty and the plants weren't being taken care of. There was an mma gym and the family theater, but I don't remember much else being there. What I do remember is there was no sense of dread around the place then, unlike the huge Northwest Plaza mall before it closed, where you'd walk out of the Sears and into a desolation of never ending, totally empty halls lined with dead stores.
One other thing your video made me remember is that Jamestown and Chesterfield both had the same skylights and style of stainless steel sculptures and fountain fixtures. Chesterfield was way more ambitious, but they got rid of their fountains and other 70s/80s design elements when they did their boring redesign. It's all sad, especially for an 80s kid like me, but the economic story of malls in St Louis is just a never ending shifting of deck chairs on the Titanic. The Mills kills Jamestown, and then Chesterfield kills its own mall and the Mills by opening its outlet malls to spite St Charles. There's no happy ending. Jamestown wasn't my mall (I went there in the 70s and 80s with my grandma, played at the arcade and ate at some medieval themed restaurant a few times. I fell asleep watching Return of the Jedi in the movie theater) but I have some good memories there. Anyway thanks for doing it justice. The historic elements you added in were a lot more satisfying than just a walk through the ruins.

There was a meeting this past Sept 21, 2022 to vote on what to do with it: Jamestown Green Estates: A set of subdivisions with solar energy, restaurants and retail space along with greenery. Jamestown Village: A populated residential area such as a senior living facility. An agriculture production facility for groups like UMSL, 39 North and Cortex.

This is the first of your videos I have seen, and wow - great job. I was engrossed and fascinated. You have more courage than I do to go inside that abandoned mall which indeed has an apocalyptic feel to it. I could imagine it inhabited by flesh eating zombies. Similar thing happened in my hometown of Dayton, Ohio to the now demolished Salem Mall, where I spent much time as a teenager. Great memories. I now reside in Virginia near the Tennessee border and the Fort Henry Mall in Kingsport, TN is doing well. Also the Mall at Johnson City, in Johnson City, TN, is very much open and seems to be doing well. Of course, both of those malls are surrounded by businesses and restaurants so I am sure that is a factor. The mall in my town of Bristol, Virginia closed a few years ago, but was bought and is now on the verge of becoming a hotel and conference center with a casino being the big draw. We'll see. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Cheers.

You have to watch where you are walking and your head. The darkness surrounds you and swallows you, even with 4 flashlights. You get backwards and lost easily. Consider taking a skilled, smart and trusted friend with you on these types of expeditions man.
If something were to happen to you, you NEED someone to be able to go for help calmly without becoming a casualty themselves, because your phone will not always have service in these buildings.
And invest in a little drone for areas you cannot safely go into.
A brighter flashlight from Fenix or StreamLight isn’t a bad idea either.

If you’re covering your lungs you should probably cover your eyes as well, wild stuff can float in the stagnant air and get in your eyes, I’ve literally seen this happen, gangly infection that got expensive.

Wow, really crazy to see what has become of Jamestown mall. I grew up in North St.Louis in the 1980's. I use to meet my friends from Jr. high school at that mall every Friday and Saturday night. Jamestown mall was the hang out spot for kinds back in the 1980's. I remember seeing that movie The Goonies at that Wehrenberg movie theater.
I think the vandalism and destruction by drug addicts and homelessness is the worse part. And I don't understand why they want to deface and destroy everything. Anyway, I left St.Louis in the fall of 1995. I haven't been to Jamestown Mall in maybe 30 years. Thanks for the video, Stay safe.

He hit the marble floor, slid and his face ate shit in the glass. His buddy carried him up the escalators, jumped out the 3rd story window to get help while they called 911. It was bad. Just a little lower and it woulda got his carotid.

Great video but as someone who grew up in the area it's been sad and frustrating to watch it deteriorate. So many Pine Wood Derbies, new school clothes shopping trips, movies, quarters spent in Aladdin's Castle.
Supposedly the county is gathering money to demolish in hopes that an empty lot will have a better chance in getting a developer but I'm way too sceptical that will happen.
I think the big reasons why the area surrounding the mall never developed more was due to location and geography. As you know the area is in the far northwest corner of the county, not really near anything including a highway (367 has only been in it's current form for about 15 years). Also the area is littered with sink holes, so much so it's a wonder what's there (mall and surrounding neighborhoods wise) was even built.
At this point I would just prefer it all be torn down and restored to it's natural state. Better to have a nature area or park than this sad and dangerous eyesore.
