- In this short, and to the point video I explain the FCC rules around sharing your GMRS license with others. Can you share your GMRS license, who you can share the GMRS license with, and how to share your GMRS license. I also clarify the FCC rules about sharing your license with children and specific members of your family.

RIP LIMBAUGH!! Formerly Chocolate stained fingers! Good one Randy!
A Rush reference AND a Roger beep! Those are gonna piss of "s o m e p e o p l e" 👍😜👍
So there’s no rule against me charging a reasonable fee to my in-laws for using my call sign! Got it
$100 per transmission sounds reasonable. LoL
Depends on how much you like them. I sold mine someone else's license.
When Randy pointed directly at me, I had to take a step back.
😂 Ah ha ha
Maybe, but I am positive I am his favorite subscriber. He told me.
Once again this only pertains to "His" and / or Her" immediate family. "They" are not allowed to use a radio! 🤣🤣
🤔😜
Accurate AF.
This is why GMRS is perfect for the family farm or outdoor activities that involve family members and friends. In the case of a deer hunting group that is made of immediate family and a few close friends only a handful of people will need a license to be legal.
Not if you're from Kentucky. :P
@@HorizonsleatherBlogspot2012 literally one person can have a license and the whole state is legal to transmit
On your recommendation I just received my first 2 "real" radios by amazon 1 day shipping, and I must say they are indeed the best radios $18 can buy.
After unlocking it's full potential and of cource, turning on the Roger beep, I promptly switched over to a GMRS frequency and did a transmission test.
I await the FCC, but I do not fear them, for I know zenu will protect me because I look so cool using my brand new boofwang uv-5r.
Make sure you show your wrist strap to the ladies. You will get invited to all the best parties.
Thank you! I am officially deconfukulated on yet another topic. 😊
I caught the nod to Rush Limbaugh. 😉👍🏻
Man, I miss Rush.
@@jaybarr3307me too
I caught the air quotes on "immediate family".
I was just going to make the same comment 😊
@@jaybarr3307ditto
Its great that I learn new words to add to my very limited vocabulary. I will use confuckulation and its variants in every conversation from now on.
Thanks for the roger beep at the end of the video. It was a nice way to reassure us that the video was over.
I'm in The Netherlands so these rules do not apply here, but always nice to hear what rules other countries have.
We hebben wel regeltjes maar idd niet dezelfde
It's nice to know your government doesn't probe into your nether-regions. 😁
Thank you for the succinct and eloquent explanation. Also, your demonstration skills suggest you may actually be a model! Beautiful!
Thank you Randy. I referenced you and your awesome tutorials videos, while transmitting on Zello. Especially, when I hear people with questions on subjects that you've covered. Would like to see more on Zello usage, and that entire eco system. It's getting more popular by the day. Keep em coming bro.
Also, a technical reading of those same rules also excludes anyone using ze/zer/attack-helicopter/etc pronouns, or their immediate families, from using GMRS stations.
OMG, how can they be such gatekeepers!!!!!
😅😅😅😅😅😅
MY preferred pronoun is "Tripod", you come across anything forbidding me from using it?
@@alanscott3999 The rules FCC 95.1705(c) only state "his or her"
Side note, I've learned so much from your channel....thank you for not making me one of "those people" I just applied for my GMRS License and the fee has gone down to $35.00.
Don't share your GMRS callsign.
You'll get repeaterpes.
better than the sad hams.... They get crabs.
@@craigdavidson2977 NO no... They get Salmon-Yellow!
Great video as usual, Randy! Now I can give away more GMRS radios to other members of my family along with my call sign and not fear them or me getting in trouble with the radio po-po. On a different but related note, I've yet to hear another GMRS license holder using their call sign on simplex, and I've been licensed for over two years.
Wow 😮 ...Alan in 🇨🇱
Holy crap his TShirts crack me up.
Great Video Randy! Keep em coming please!
Thanks a bunch for the videos you post. I’m learning a lot on GMRS thanks to you.
Excellent. I can share with anyone...at any time for any reason! Sweet!
I joined this channel to check out what's being displayed on the Wall of Shame. ...and I learn something new here too!
I can't wait to see the pinned comments on this video. Let the sad hams begin!
I've been trying. Nothing works.
"Yours is a superior intellect." Thanks for sharing.
So, GMRS is superior to HAM in the sharing category.
100% better in this category.
Is this why HAMs are so sad? They can't share their station license....
@@wcoonradt264 It's true. On lower freq, we are forced to talk thousands of miles all by ourselves...haha. You got to do your own homework, if you want the sheepskin. I would suggest accepting that each is a different path to enlightenment.
In my case, my biggest disappointment with GMRS was listening to two 4 year olds playing hide and seek in their own house. The crossover from open to licensed is the biggest drawback to GMRS for me. Doing 40 miles into a 2 meter repeater for a net gives me some mental health compensation.
@@wcoonradt264 hams wouldn’t want to. It a whole different hobby.
GMRS is also superior to a medical license, pilots license and a license to practice law. I've asked my doctor several times to borrow his prescription pad, but he doesn't like to share. What a drag!
Thanks for the video!
🤭Happy Ham after seeing this brilliant piece of Performance Art
I am glad I live on the Central Coast where no sad hams exist. Maybe you could join me here one day and experience true inner peace finally.
"formerly chocolate stained fingers." classic! great reminder of a great man.
Another excellent video!! You tha man!!
New Subscriber - Awesome content. I received the email from the FCC notifying me of my grant of license at 1159 pm last Friday. Early Saturday morning I tried to log in to see what my call sign is, and to find any other info that may have been provided. The "Authorization Link" in the email, and also the "License Manager" part of the site has been down this whole time (8 days so far) for System Maintenance. It's enough to make a guy Sad.
Thanks for the Rush reference! That was great to hear! Gotta work on the crinkle sound a little 😅
I like The Late Rush Limbaugh reference also. I loved it when the late Rush Limbaugh would say "I'm holding in my formerly Nicotine Stained Finges".
Another great one Randy !
Ok. We've established that the FCC doesn't care about us. How do we go about this to make the IRS feel the same way?
if only . . . . . .

Haha not anymore!

Omg. I love this guy. Thank you so much... love the humor. notarubicon! You are the man.

You are THE MAN!!!!
Thanks 👍
Love this channel. Hilarious. Good stuff and practical with no Poindexter.
Thanks randy for the info.
Well said. No enforcement actions ever! Lol
I've been into the radio hobby for 50 years and never once heard of or knew of anyone being busted on GMRS for anything.
Not true, postal trucks and UPS are equipped with triangulation devices, you ever notice after one of those trucks goes past, a plain white minivan is soon to follow. You never hear about it because they put them in Guantanamo Bay.
Sharing is caring
that great and right on point.
Thanks for looking that up; it's to know that immediate familly doesn't have to live in the same household. I also agree that nobody who matters really cares; just keep it orderly and don't commit crimes over the radio waves and nobody who matters comes knocking.
I would bet there are thousands of GMRS radios in use by unlicensed individuals. The FCC will never bother to hunt them down. They don't have the resources and GMRS users don't bother anyone. There is also the MURS channels, no license required. Unless some clown is using a modified ham rig to jam the local PD or fire department, your chances of being busted on GMRS for no license are about the same as winning the lotto.
@@richb.4374 MURS radios do require a license if you use them for a business. At least that is my limited understanding.
Love the humor! Basically do what you want with your radios and F the fcc.
Just get your ham license and start providing the best damn radio reviews in the world.
Carefull! Everytime someone tells Randy to 'get his ham license' we have to down a jello shot. I'm getting a little tipsey
He has stated that he will never get a ham license. It wouldn't be for him to have one because he doesn't need one.
Thank you!
Well said.
oh, its Bud lite on a TV, its almost as cheap as in the store.
Love the ad!
Thanks!
So. We invent a Time Machine. Then go back to Adam, apply for his GMRS lic, and we’re all covered!
Would the call sign be “A”? 🤔
Formerly "chocolate" stained fingers 😉, miss that guy.
No Bozo pinned at the top after 18 hours?? Randy, you are slipping my good man!!!

Awesome video. Love the sarcasm.........lol
I caught that Rush reference with the chocolate fingers .. Keep up the great content and upsetting keyboard cowboys!
Me too I miss Rush.
Timely photo of Tranheiser Busch in the background.
I like that ending
I'm not under FCC rules. I'm under ANATEL rules, so I just need a Amateur Radio Call Sign to operate GMRS/HAM radios.

Dear Randy,
I think I might be the only female who watches your channel. Rest assured, I do not have blue hair. Thank you for your very educational and entertaining content. My dad passed away last year and I inherited some radios from him, which is what prompted me to start watching your videos. I have the following questions for you:
1. My dad had a GMRS license. I know this because his call sign is written on his Wouxun KG-UV9G Pro manual. As his child, can I legally use his GMRS license and call sign after he has passed away? I mean, will the FCC even know or give a crap? Or is it just the SAD HAMS I need to be weary of?
2. What (if any) difference is there between a Tenway UV-5R and a Baofeng UV-5R? I now own two Tenway UV-5R Pro HT's, but every time I try to search for Tenway on the youtubes, all I get are Baofeng videos... lots of really boring ones. Could you please help de-confuckulate this for me?
3. What is your hand and nail beauty routine? I would die for your cuticles. (To all the dudes on here who've been silently coveting Randy's hand model status... you're welcome.)
I just come here for the pinned comments...and truly great info.
I see nobody screamed YET about you know...
Still holding hope one of the keyboard cops comes in soon!
peace
Here for the Rush Limbaugh references
Hi Randy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and saving us newbs some of the learning curve while researching new-to-us technology.
Since you're a RUclips superstar, do you happen to have any information on the "System Maintenance" message on the FFC site when a new user is trying to obtain a GMRS license? The message has been posted for several days, making it impossible for anyone to obtain the mandatory license to follow the rules and regulations set up by the FCC.
It's broken and it will be fixed when its fixed.
Best shirt ever 🥃🍻🥓🇺🇸💯
Its hood to use the identifier because if you both are heavy users, other users know which one they are talking to. Its not stupid.
I hear people talking all the time on GMRS who don't use a call sign, I really do believe that people don't care. I should say tho the tow truck driver's do use a call sign but that's about it.
Sir, Ive been trying to contact you about your GMRS license......
Curious if all the FCC regulations have ever taken the constitutional test?
Aint gonna have me one of them there Rainbow Lights. In my mediate fambly, my neighbor, his wife, and their sister’z kidz is blood kin.
Wish we had gmrs repeaters up here where i live. The closet one is over an hours drive away. But gmrs is pretty nice for the family.
Then be a pillar of your community and put one up! ...Like I did....
@@TheNotaRubicon I was just looking at the logistics of doing that.
Ah, but "Bravo" is not a "number", is it. No; it's a letter being added phonetically. There. I did it! Pin me. Pin me! I've been trying so hard for so long.... Did I mention that I've been a licensed ham for many years and...
Soooo
If a man doesn't have a GMRS license and his kid finds the radio and does some f**kery..........
Looks like nobody gets in trouble

I'm from the valley Randy, so splanin it won't help. But I did get that my dog can use my call sign, like...right?
My utoob hero! How was I able to survive b4 your epic life lessons? The only thing that could have made this video cooler is if NotaRubicon used a golden Electro Voice RE-20.
Excellence In Broadcasting!
yes
Exactly. If you're running 1 KW on a rare rare situation after hundreds of years of use FCC might hear your transmission. Do we have the resources and the time to chase you down beyond the letter? probably not. Beep beep
There are some people that don't matter at my location because they like to act like the Call Sign Police on a couple of gmrs frequencies I've listened to 🧐.
You know it's official when he ends the transmission with the "roger" beep.
The FCC doesn't care. Now as for the NSA ...
Well, I think to operate under your GMRS license, that every family member must be proficient with Morse Code at at least 20 words per minute. -Angry Old Ham. 😂73 DE W8LV Bill
I have a no code gimrs license. LOL
I think you're trying to get pinned.
Only half my family can do that. The others are slower.
Hey Randy dude.
I thought you said sometime ago that your repeater was "open" for all to use. Hmmm😢
I did, and it is.
*_Waiting for the pinned comment._*
Good points Randy. FCC rules and then the truth at the end. I don't want to bother with the license announcement when traveling and talking to my family caravan. I'm not going to do it and no one can make me.
I'll use it when operating a base station, though no one will ever care about that either, except maybe a sad ham.
Are pets included in the FCC license? My dog wants to know.
The picture of Bud Light in the background is a little fruity, sir.
Hilarious how your immediate family includes 4 generations and your in-laws 😂
Ham is even more relaxed. Guys on there just throw out there call signs for you to reuse.
