Happy to see your list of top books! I learned of Anthony Horowitz through your videos and tried his Magpie Murders last year. I enjoyed it so much that it made my top books of 2024! So I look forward to trying more of his work. Thanks for that!
A recommendation I’d give you would be In the Garden of Spite by Camilla Bruce. It’s historical fiction about a female serial killer. It’s very character-driven. I can’t remember, from your videos, if you’ve tried it before, but I’m curious if it would work for you, considering your profession and how character focused it is. I liked the story.

Juan, I absolutely love your videos. As a fellow Mexicano, I’m particularly excited to read Hurricane Season. I wish my Spanish was better so I can read it in Spanish, but I digress. It’s refreshing and just plain awesome to have someone as insightful and critical with a Mexican lens in the Booktube world. Can’t wait to see what you have in store in 2025!

I just read Netsuke by Rikki Ducornet which seems like a perfect pairing with the Evenson. Ducornet is also a poet and her novella rests on a line between Lolita and Silence of the Lambs. (No serial killers or pedophiles in Netsuke, but the terrible central figure is a psychoanalyst whose voice made me think of Dr. Lecter and Humbert Humbert...) An extremely intense and disturbing book, worth a read. I will check out Evenson!

My three humble recommendations: Guillaume Musso's The Reunion (critics don't like him because he's immensely successful and sells a lot, but imo he's a writer who really knows what he's doing on a technical level. If you loved The Secret History, this one was clearly inspired by it); Gabrielle Zevin's Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow (it was very hyped a few years ago and you can definitely see why. Beautiful writing and a beautiful story about friendship); Salinger's Franny & Zooey (reread it recently and I liked it more than when I read it for the first time).

Hola, Juan, Feliz 2025! I can recommend "Shattered" by Hanif Kureishi and "Prophet Song" by Paul Lynch. They are quite grim, but brilliant books, and made a huge impression on me.

A beautiful list. Would have found it more beautiful if you had at least a single African book for a start. You might want to read God's Children are Little Broken Things for a Start.
