- Even though they were from a different world, their adopted home embraced these two lyricists with open arms. Their new home would also provide the perfect environment for them to make their musical dreams come true. However, from the start, the loyalty and respect between the two seemed to be one sided and eventually ripped them apart. Let’s find out what happened to British R&B duo Floetry.

I still listen to "Say Yes."
Me too
Me too ✋
That's the track.
Yep... that's the song
And “it’s getting late!”
Sometimes it takes us a long time to realize a certain person isn’t really our friend. even if we get soo many signs.. they were an amazing group, i hate that it ended.
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT !! Dealing with That NOWWW!!
You told nothing but the truth with this one. It took me hitting my 30s to realize a few people I considered friends were never actually my friends and they'd made that clear on numerous occasions. The signs had always been there and somehow I missed them.
It bums that Floetry ended but given what Marsha went through at the hands of her fellow duo member and supposed friend, better that the group end than having something worse happen to either one of them. 🤷♀️
Just found this out…it hurts but hey life goes on…people always come into your life for a season and a reason…and it’s up to you to figure out which one that is…IJS🤷🏿♂️

“It’s Getting Late” and “Say Yes” are two of the greatest slow jams ever recorded. 🔥🔥
FACTSSSSSSS
Yes my favorite ❤
Thank the American writers and producers
My late ex was surprised how much I loved Floetry and Say Yes. She would crack up when I would sing it in dramatic fashion to her.
Feelings, my apology, I want you, superstar!!!!! All classics!
I love the fact that Marsha wrote MJ butterflies
her demo is so good too!
Damn I ain't know that
I regularly listen to both versions. They're one of my favorite songs!
Then re recorded it again on late nights and early mornings
Yep! Wow!
I will be forever grateful that they wrote my favorite MJ song, Butterflies❤
Me too
Timeless song!!!
Same
Marsha did.. and yes amazing song
Realllllllly ????
Their whole first album is fiyah. You can let that thang play from beginning to end. Very underrated.
Yes!!!!! And when they did it live in New Orleans lord!!!!!! I think I was 12 and I knew I loved them!!!!!
@@Dr.RoseQuartz Awesome sauce! Yea..their second album which is the live album of their first one is the bizness lol
Their Second One Too.

Am I the only one who remembers " I hope she cheats on you with a basketball player " That was a whole bop🎶🎶🎶🎶
I know you remember late nights early morning!!!! Girl!!!
Nope ! “ don’t know the difference between the touchdown and a layup, got you on viagra in order for you to stay up” she killed that song 🔥
I love that song. Now I know her daddy was a ball player and it all makes sense.
That song is on my ipod😂😂😂 I used to jam to this in high school lol
Yep
‘Say Yes’ has aged so well throughout the years. Back when lyrics and R and B had meaning.
They still do. Stop listening to radio trash
I love "FAR AWAY" by Marsha Ambrosius ,such a beautiful song and heartfelt music video.
One of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SONGS!
Yes Number one song
Lisstteeennnn, that song is BREATHE. I NEEEED IT!
Oh yes!!!💖💖✌🏽
Yes!
It's getting late and Say Yes omg still bops till this day and Marsha Ambrosius voice 🔥❤
I still love Alone Together with Daley! ♥️
Neo soul version of say yes!
off that same album they have a song called fun... maaaaaan her music is so relatable
Yup me to
getting lateeeee!!! Omgggg
I had a childhood friend that was like Natalie. No hard feelings l just except that people are for a season or lifetime. She was seasonal. It is what it is. 🤷🏾 just move on people, there's 8 billion people on this planet, there be others.
Same as myself... its crazy what jealousy can drive a person to do to you. I had to learn that after 20yrs and numerous signs, she was seasonal too. Its sad I overlooked it for so long because I'm not a jealous person. I'm thankful for the lesson learned. (",)
@@ceeceejay5701 wow see . Hey we all get a little jealous it's human nature. But some people have serious issues and need professional help. I hear you you're not alone. You don't need her her they'll be others....
Yeah, but they were making beautiful music together. It’s hard to get over business partner when your business isn’t thriving as it did when they were co-partners. Imagine if Dominic Dolce left and Stephano Gabana didn’t remain business partners after they broke up. And separately the fashion lines weren’t selling.
The pictures of them were so nostaligic like a different era: natural hairstyle and more subtle makeup with pops here and there instead of the cake faced look and bundles. Sounds like Natalie had her own insecurity issues going on and was jealous of Marsha from jump. It's one thing to be around guys and their locker room talk but you don't sit there and agree with them and that's supposed to be your girl! Wow.
Yeah, but its not hard to understand why she really did what she did.. Jealouy and ego are very powerful things.
Natalie was a nightmare! My goodness. Jealousy and envy are the worst traits in a friend. From the moment I heard "It's Getting Late" I knew Marsha was the Beyoncé in that group. - - There was a solo music video Natalie did after the group broke up the first time. She looked like she was coming off of a hard addiction. I cannot find the music video, so I don't know the name of the song. But it was like that music video Kiely Williams did called "Spectacular". Just awful!
Natalie let a man ruin something that she as a woman had worked for. That’s so messed up and just goes to show how love makes us extremely blind.
Facts Leelee from SWV stated you don't hardly have any girl groups anymore because it is too much of a risk for the record companies due to the drama and females falling in love/messing up their careers for a guy
@@thetruesoulofanaquarius9302 I can definitely see that
Yes.
Damn i always wondered what happened.
@@JLPerryTV is it really "selling out" if you follow the money and the audience? You can have both a mainstream album and a neo-soul album. One makes the money and one is your heart.
Amanda’s interview brought me here
Same here
That’s still so wild. Like who and how did she take her place?! no popular vote 🤷🏽♀️
Wow. They made their debut album THAT fast?! That’s amazing
Toe-nayyyyyy
Lemme guess Tony...
You inta dat.
I was thinking the same thing. That's bonkers. I also didn't know Marsha wrote butterflies!?!? That's crazy.
Actually the debut album was more or less completed in London before they went to the States.....From my recollection the 'guide' vocals sounded more like completed vocals and the production was tight....So really the 7 days quoted in the video was most probably for mixing, mastering and clearing samples (I do remember one big sample that did not appear on the finished album).....I felt then as I feel now highly blessed to have heard that demo and the incredible talent that is Marsha Ambrosius.
Marsha was an act all by herself regardless of her so called friend. That's way Marsha is still rolling.
@@JLPerryTV Lol!No she didn't. Yes, she was part of it, but I assure you, there were far better ones on the scene... such as Zena Edwards for example.
@@JLPerryTV to my knowledge I don't remember a third member
@@JLPerryTV So were there three members in the group floetry or not?
@@JLPerryTV So Floetry only had two members which was my point, I'm not talking about any other group.
Well Natalie didn't sell her soul either
I hate when relationships end that way😟
Met Marsha, one of the coolest down to Earth singers you could ever meet. She hung out with us back stage to listen & watch other acts. She hugged amateur performers and was happy to take pictures with them. She seemed to enjoy these interactions just as much as fans with no fakeness about her - I'll never forget her.
Marsha has a song with Jamie Foxx called ‘Freak’in Me’ and it’s one of my favorites from that album.
YESSSSSS!!!! I still play that song 🎵
Mannnnnnn....That song is No Joke!!!
Yes, a hidden gem!!!
Favvvvv
I got pregnant of that song lmaoo
Floetry had so many bangers!!
Raheem DeVaughn and Marsha killed it on "Marathon". One of the greatest babymaking tunes ever.
Facts!!!!!
Absolutely 🎯
People sleep on that song big time!
I know from personal experience how much it hurts when you _THINK_ that somebody is your friend, but it turns out they were against you all along and they were just waiting for an opportunity to bring you down in any way possible.
Also, I know Dez Billups is her husband now, but I don't think it's too much of a reach to wonder about why those guys who sent that mean voice note about Marsha felt so comfortable sending it to his phone in the first place.🤔
Absolutely! It's VERY telling when someone is so comfortable taking mess to you about another person.
@@JuicyPopEntertainment
Yep!
It says that whatever negative conversation is being had is probably not the first time such things have been said between the people having said conversation.
@@JuicyPopEntertainment let's get it on.
Voice note?
@@deljean
That's what she said in the video, that it was a voice note that was sent to Dez's phone where Marcia heard Natalie talking badly about her.
I guess voice note is/was an iPhone thing?
I heard Marsha sing live at that tragic event called Love Jones The Musical. Although the play was something out of a 10th grade performing arts show...when Marsha came out to sing she laid everyone OUT! Long gorgeous red dress and sneakers and she had us all slain in the aisles. Marsha can SANG SANG...and MJ's "Butterflies" is one of his best (and thats saying something!)
"that tragic event called Love Jones The Musical" 😂 😂 😂 😂
@@JuicyPopEntertainment lol. Im still traumatized
Not "tragic event"!🤣💀
Seriously though, I never knew they made a musical out of Love Jones-- although, judging by what you said about it I didn't miss anything anyway. 😂

I died at 10th grade performing arts show 🤣🤣🤣
Whew chille! That’s giving messy af! I’mma keep being a fan of their music and mind my business as per the rest 😅
😭😭😭😭
I definitely wondered what happened with these two. I love the fact they're from the U.K. and Germany. It's Getting Late Live is still on repeat. I love Superstar and Floetic too.
My mama use to have this Album on REPLAY ALL THE TIME! I remember her cleaning up the house & cooking to Floerty. I'm now 30 & that Album still hit til this day!
It's hard to find a true and honest friend
Everywhere Amanda Seales goes, there's a problem.
No lies there
That’s cause she ain’t shit
FACTS!!!
I was just thinking that. She doesn’t give me good vibes. Even on Insecure… she plays that role a little too well.
True, that girl just attracts drama
I remember when they hit the US, they were unique and in a league of their own. That Say Yes song was/is different than anything I had heard before it, just smooth and sexy and women. Everyone wanted to know who they were. I still listen to it. It still hit like the first time I heard it. Pure genius.
The video for Say Yes was on heavy rotation on MTV and BET!!!
Back when videos actually played on those channels...😒
@@danavixen6274 yass I miss those days
Crazy bc Marsha has an awesome voice but never really got passed Floetry. They were meant for each other. Together they gave us a unique experience ❤❤❤❤
I still get chills when I hear “Far Away”.👍🏽
I luv Marsha. She’s always been so humble and happy.
A story on Soul II Soul would sound very interesting
Natalie was trifling smh
@@LilithsCosmicLounge - I was just about to type that. There's always another side.
They were one of the best groups ever. I was really hurt when they broke up.
That sunshine gets me everytime! I can listen to that all night
My thing is Marsha has stated what she’s done to her but never admitted to anything she did to the other lady. No way in hell was it all on the other lady.
I am thinking the same thing. This is not ringing true to me.
Right. Not saying this isn't true, but I just don't like when people tell someone else's ugly truth, but act like they're the victim. And they said in an interview with Natalie, all she said was management pretty much played both sides; she could've dragged Marsha, but she just kept it short and simple.
I generally agree because there's literally no long relationship that doesn't have bad on both. However I have seen most are a little heavy on one side and a good chunk that are lopsidedly bad. Everything isn't far in this life, especially even shares of bad behavior. It's not a Hollywood movie where everything is neat like that. If you get my drift.
I swear just when I’m thinking of a person or a group that we haven’t heard of for a long time you pop up with them I love this channel support it 1000% love you keep up the great work ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the support.🥰
This story left out a huge role DJ Jazzy Jeff had in the beginning of their career.
Facts!
@ 06:00 - I'm not surprised one bit. A lot of people don't seem to like Amanda Seales.
I always loved butterfly’s by MJ and realized early on how different it sounded from any of his other songs. Now all I can hear is Marcia over it, it’s distinctly hers! ❤️
MJ. Very. Nice. Happens. Pretty. No. Goodness. Very. Nice
Lol, he didnt even record his own background vocals! It was Marsha all the way. Hella smart of her to negotiate and re-release it her original version...
I saw them on tour twice. Thank goodness I did! 🙌🏿
I wonder why she lied about having a miscarriage?? That’s weird. This sounded like one was in secret competition with the other. I saw bits of that breakfast club interview I’m going to search it up to see what all was said. Great content. Can you do a video on method man next??
Sometimes your friends are jealous ☹️
Natalie had no need to be. They were equally talented.
And I wish these powerful beautiful intelligent women would STOP making their jealous low vibrational husbands (who can’t get a job on their own) their managers!! 🙄 They always mess up the bag!
I bet Mary J. Blige wishes somebody would have told her that back in the early 2000s!😬

I honestly didn't know they were from Britain...they are soooo underrated I love their song " Say Yes "...but I totally forgot about them. "Say Yes " is like a cute romantic, calm, relaxing soulful song. Cute to play when you just wanna relax & chill. I hate when women are getting abused but don't wanna say/or someone to say anything...!!
Love these stories so much!!
Glad you like them!
@@JuicyPopEntertainment I do too.
Their first album was groundbreaking. 💿🔥⭐️🎶
It breaks my heart. These two made magic together. Marsha tried...she really did.
Say Yes, Getting Late and Floetic are still bangers!!
So sad 😢. They were so great together musically
Agreed
That Floacism album is still one of the best live albums. I still listen to it.
They were so dope! “Say Yes” is a forever bop 🎶🎶🎶❤️ such a perfectly-crafted song! 👌🏽 Thanks for uploading 😊

Such a tastefully sexy ballad! 💞
@@sunshinesunflowerz1647 thanks!
To be a British rapper and poet at the time, I’m more impressed with Natalie now. She had the potential to be one of the biggest writers. Like a more R&B Ester Dean. Really cool sounds
Me too. She's a true artist.
I had a person (can't call them a friend) enter my life in the 2010's whom i thought would be a friend! We were friends for years (or so i thought)...... but come to realize that it was definitely a one sided friendship! The betrayal of it all was so devastating! But I prayed on it and I took it as a lesson learned! We dont speak to this day!
Floetry opened for Erykuh Badu during her Frequency tour years ago. They...brought...the...house...down. Badu’s set was abysmal. If you get an opportunity to see them perform live...go! 🖤🦋🎼
So glad I got to see them perform. One of the most underrated group.
Who’s here after the Amanda seales/shay shay trainwreck that was
You should do what ever happen to Goapele the one who sing “ Closer to my Dreams “
Them live studio album and performances were everything back then
Even when we put our best foot forward, friendships just aren't meant to last! It's not just the music industry, but life in general. Do what you can with the time you're given. These ladies allowed to much of their personal lives to dictate their forward progress together and it eventually drove a stake through their creative hearts instead of writing the personal poetry of their experiences so that the creative spirits would continue to flow!
They're unsung, underrated and underappreciated if you ask me..
This sucks so badly, these two were so talented. I always liked Marsha, you can feel her when she sings
Debut album produced in 7 days and sounding that?! Wow! 🔥 🔥🔥
If you get a chance to see Marsha Ambrosius live, GO!!!!
Obsessed till this day with Floetry...
Say yes and It's getting late are still my jams
Damn it be your own people. So damn messy. Despite all that drama I really wish they could've worked thru their issues for music's sake but just like everyone keep saying, it's crazy when you think somebody is your friend. meanwhile they really hating and bitter about a success that they both could've been sharing smh. Marsha's solo albums are 🔥🔥🔥
Sometimes people are not worth Worthy of your friendship all your time
This was clearly one sided. Natalie side is well documented in magazines and interviews. Maybe it wasn't on well known mainstream platforms like the Breakfast Club but it's out there.
What did Natalie have to say about the whole situation?
That is what I said too. The whole damn thing is about what Nat did and said to upset Marsha lol. And people are just going with it like its facts or something.
If that’s how you feel, why don’t you clarify?
@@MysteryUnfold I did now you do the search. Blessings
@@eLLBdotmusic I did love. I watched the video just like you 😁.
Floetry were from London, England, but they lived in the United States in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They came out with their debut album Floetic, in the fall of 2002, which featured the singles, the album's title song, "Floetic", "Say Yes" (released March 2003), and "Getting Late". "Say Yes" stayed on the Hot 100 billboard charts for 20 weeks, peaking at number 24 on 14 June 2003. The album was also released in the United Kingdom with additional tracks, one of which features British singer/songwriter and producer Sebastian Rogers. Their song "Where's The Love" was featured in the best-known 2003 film Bringing Down the House. Reviewers of the album praised Floetry for their skillful writing, soulful sound infused with funk and R&B and representing the English R&B scene that was emerging.
Floetry released a live album titled Floacism in 2003. The two-disc set consisted of a CD and DVD and included the single "Wanna B Where U R" featuring rapper Mos Def.
I been listening to their music since 2002...
Let's be honest. Nobody checked out floetry for the bland rapping. Everybody came for the voice of Marsha.
Facts.....
“Your Hands” by Marsha is the best. “Say Yes”, “Hey You”, “Lay Down” & “Its getting late” are my favorites by the two of them. So sad what happened.
You forgot I hope imagination and a little bit closer sun shine and so much more
I received"Floetic"from Natalie at the end of a show at Detroits' "Key Club"poetry-slam club in 2001,as she tossed the disc into the crowd from the stage!! I caught one and was IMPRESSED with it when I played it when I got home!! ❤
For me, it was the song Floetic, that song is one that I still play today. They was the the guide that reminded upcoming black British artist back then, of certain genres that you may have to leave England and go USA to get going in their career.
Do, Kindred The Family Soul next. They were a great group.
NeoSoul was a great era.
That’s late 90s early 2000s Philly neo soul hop hop scene was 🔥
Jus Damn! I really enjoyed their music….
They were one of my favorites when I first heard them I ran out and bought the live album with the video performance I never go and buy music to me they were game changers something new and different special, but as solo artist they are just another singer and just another poet. The music industry is tough and they to got caught in the madness. Welcome to America where dreams begin and friendships end.
First time I checked her out was when I was listening to Nipsey and he mentioned her on his album, then seeing her sing at his funeral...great voice..
Not hatin on Natalie, but if anyone has the talent for a prolonged solo career, it’s the songstress Marsha. Such a beautiful voice. I fell in love with the vulnerability and passion in Getting Late off their first album.
I wasn't a fan at first. After hearing their live CD I instantly became a fan and gave them a shot and bought the DVD. I went back and purchased the studio album and saw them perform at my homecoming. I was hooked. I even got to see them perform during their reunion tour with Mint Condition which was a bittersweet because Prince had passed away the same day but they did their best. I'm glad they were able to put out some really great music.
I know these girls personally especially Natalie from day one where they, we performed at London southbank University 1999 they were an awesome duo sad that they broke up they were the best!
What a very interesting video about Floetry. I do miss and love them!!!
So glad you've done this, I loved floetry and they hail from the UK where I am!
I wish this U.K.-turned U.S. duo Floetry should come back to the music industry and release more music as they did in the 2000's.
Love Natalie! She is so humble! Before the pandemic she hosted a few spoken word nights called Vortex in Hideaway in Streatham, SW London. They were firreeeeee!!
OMG their Floetic abbum!!!! I used to blast that out in my car!!! *clicks fingers*
this seemed pretty one-sided...
Cool Marsha wrote butterflies!
Interesting video since there are virtually no Neo Soul documentaries online, but it also feels one sided. The Floacist comes off as looking like a “Class A” villain in this. She may well be a bad person, but I would love to hear her side of the story as well.
Absolutely. Natalie last did an interview about the situation in 2013.
Exactly. It sounds like Natalie had an issue with Marsha constantly dating/messing with their staff and acquaintances. That’s usually bad for business.
I love her and her voice is as powerful as her lyrics
Yes, I became a fan in spring 2003, when i heard "Say Yes", along with the video. I was in 12th grade. Continued listening to it daily up into 2005.
IEarly 2005, I also became a fan of 'Floetic' also with it's amazing video.
I loved Floetry!!!!! My cousin played them all the time!
Lay down & If I were a bird will NEVER get old. I saw Marsha live. She not only sings but she connects with her audience thru conversation, music and story telling. She has authentic energy!!
Amanda Diva (Seales) joining the group was such a bad idea. She was another Floacist, not a Songstress; which the duo needed. I loved the concept but respect and happiness are paramount.
Marsha was the songstress so a floacist was what was needed as that is the concept of the group.
She wasn’t a true friend period, she was envious 💯💯💯💯 Marsha is Queen👸🏽🙌🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💕💕💕💕💕
Philly was literally the perfect place for them to land… How appropriate
Wtf? I didnt know Marsha wrote butterflies! Ive been listening that song for over 20 years. Nice!
With Friends like Nicole you don't need enemies Marsha ambrosius is better without her.
"I played by the rules. You played by the game.."
Even though I cry every time that's one of my fav songs from her. Sad song like a mfer. But that's true..
They are a magical duo. I don’t want to hear anything without the both of them
