But this time (Corona) it's the other way around. The people are ignoring the scientists and the government.
Also climate change could kill us all in the next decades. Because there won't be enough food and water for all and wars will start for ressources.

He was told that he would die alone. But he died with his family, friend, and colleague/student.
He was told the accuracy of him dying alone was 96.5% but he changed that. I guess we don’t need much for a significant change and a better outcome.
The one who will eventually die alone is the son of the President. IF he was the ONLY survivor (Watch post credits.) The president’s death was 100% accurate probably for being so fuckin selfish. If you guys remember when she called the professor to offer him a seat somehow he knew she left behind her son. 😂
Yes . It was great that he got home at the end. He isn't supposed to , but the scene in the show second time when he bursts out at the stupidity that is happening ,, he says that he wants to go home!!
He could not change the course of the comet , but he did change his life and had a peaceful ending

The final scene where everyone tries to chat to hide their fear is really realistic. I went through a situation like that. When I was 6 years old, my mother had a traffic accident at night, the adults in the family were all in the hospital while my mother was having surgery. At home, there were only me and a few cousins. We all knew my mother's situation was very critical but we all deliberately avoided it. We sat all day talking about everything in the world, but during that whole day, fear never disappeared from our voices. They all realized that the other was scared but they pretended it didn't exist. Sadly, my mother did not make it. The last scene of the movie really made me remember the feeling on that terrible day, a feeling of fear that I will never forget. (sorry if there any translate error i use gg translate)

There is 'On the Beach' on youtube.
There are a lot that show the world ending, but most in a cheesy manner at the end of a rather absurd disaster movie. This movie - and a few others, like On The Beach as mentioned by Mdebacle, instead approaches it with more serious contemplation of what it means, and peoples' interactions with it.

and the worst part of that is that we do politics as if we dont. We hate on other countries and peoples who have nothing, when the moral and wise thing to do is to help them and support them. Even on the Left we criticize slavery that happened 180 years ago on smart phones made by virtual slaves today. Yes we did lose alot of manufacturing in the last twenty years, but we have lifted people out of desperate poverty while having a zero percent unemployment rate. We need to continue this track, to lift all boats, because countries that are not desperately poor are countries that will not send thousands of refugees to us.
We will NEVER see how lucky some of us are. Millions and millions have nothing though and would love more. But the privileged will never ever have enough.

Idk if I'm overanalyzing but my favorite detail about this scene is how he's holding the coffee mug at the end. He has his hand on the hot part not by the handle, almost like a last bit of comfort/distraction, a little warmth, the very thing that brought life in the first place.
Definitely not overanalyzing. Most shots in a movie are hand crafted to evoke specific feelings, this is the last shot of the movie filmed in slow mo with a high tech camera. It would have even more planning than usual.
When they first discovered the comet the people that knew about it when on scene their camera would be shakey and kinda zoomed in to show fear and anxiety but when the camera is on regular oblivious people its like a normal movie scene if that makes sense
people holding warm drinks induce "warm" feelings in viewers.
teddy was alone at the dinner, so the cup of coffee was his only friend.
earlier in the movie, there are at least 2 references to "this technology is the friend we need"

Yep, made me realise how far we have come as a species. How introspective we are about meaning and purpose. How much technology we have created. How much we have expanded. Just the fact that we, a product of evolution, can contemplate evolution, is astounding.

As for consciousness, I simple think it is lots of switches in our head. I'm not sure if I'm missing something in this search for consciousness that we seem to be going through but I'm contempt to think that it is simply a result of a lot of neurons doing a lot of things in a lot of ways, like how a monkey with a pencil and infinite time will eventually write all the digits of Pi.

I like how for the whole movie the world just ignores the apocalypse except for these people, and in the end they're the ones trying to ignore it.
That's a great observation. The rest of the world ignores it while there's a lot they could do, and the main characters ignore it once there is nothing more that they can do. This movie is so damn poetic.
also when Randal says there is 99 percent chance that comet hits the earth, it happens, while Peter says there is 96 percent chance that. Randall dies alone and doesn't happen. LMAO
This small group of people have come to term with the fact that the world is ending and they have made peace with themselves and with the Lord. They were not even too scared about death anymore. After all death comes to everyone. The rest of people were all panic and screaming and shouting. It is a nice contrast

@@goodfella1234 I was just thinking on this. Our main characters had the opportunity to go through all five stage of grief: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. The rest of the world didn't believe it was really going to happen until it happened.

The chicxulub asteroid that killed the dinosaurs is said to have traveled so fast and at such an angle that the pressure front ahead of it started to excavate the crater before it even hit. Supposedly it punched a hole in the atmosphere and debris from the impact (including dinosaur remains) were sucked out into the vacuum of space and spread far and wide. To the Dino’s witnessing the event, the day would have been nice and clear one second and gone the next.

I actually liked that the planet was destroyed at the end, I know that sounds weird but I'm fed up of 95% of movies having a happy ending. And the scene with them trying to pretend it was a normal dinner but also you could see they were terrified made me cry
I was literally terrified when I first watched the movie at this part.

you're absolutely right- having a "yaaaaay we did it :)" ending would've completely betrayed the message of the film and just felt saccharine. it would've been dishonest to start pulling your punches at the last possible moment.

My boy was born 01-01-2020, in 2019 I was quiet optimistic about the future. Going forward 2 years on its getting harder and harder to keep that same optimistic view, now look at it a looming war in the east and west.
Pre 2000's is where life was good, when we gave a damn.

1:20 hits so hard, man. In the moments before, there’s pure chaos, the world in shambles as everyone realizes that it’s their final moments, and suddenly, silence. We see someone, standing alone above a flame-ravaged valley, banging their drum, but we never hear it. Completely unflinching in the face of death. We’re put into their moment of peace, their silent world. Proud and happy to do one last beautiful thing before it’s all gone.

They've already accepted it, they tried to fix it, bring awareness, change it, by the end they've done everything they can because they tried to make everyone face reality yet no one wanted to do anything. The only option they've got left logically as scientists is being with their friends and family and letting them know how much they love them while the world burns.

This was the scariest part of the film to me. All of it, just gone. And there was nothing they could do. They just sat and enjoyed each other's company for a few precious moments. Terrified me.
Specially because we think that if something actually happens to us we would either suffer from drowning with the waters and tsunamis or feel the whole process of being burned alive to a crisp, but this movie shows how fast it would actually be and we wouldn't even feel anything.
Just a few brief moments of searing pain like shown in the end of the movie
Plenty they could have Done. Build a space elevator. Build rockets and move into orbit for a few years. Go deep into the earth with enough stuff to live for a few decades.

i’m pretty sure i’ve commented it before, but the indigenous scene at 1:20 impacts me so much. im not native myself, but i adore their culture and every culture that respects nature and embraces spirituality. despite such a scarred history, it prevailed to the end in this story. to me, that one small scene feels like a re-emergence in bliss rather than acceptance in grief. i find it so, so beautiful

In the face of that tremendous beauty mixed with horror, he would of course do EXACTLY that.

It was important for the film to end with the end of the world. It’s not just about being realistic, because if this really happened it’s true that people would be so politically divided that it would be difficult for humanity to band together and actually save the planet. It had to end as a reminder of what we have “everything.” I loved how they showed nature, religion, children - all the things that make our planet what it is , even something seemingly everyday like having dinner with family. It reminds us how truly miraculous it is that we have it within the chaos of the universe. I found it heartbreaking how in their last moments they tried to make small talk, that something seen as a triviality could be someone’s final effort for agency. Its unexpectedly tender for how much the film was a criticism of humanity and how stupid and greedy we can be
The thing about this movie that makes it stand out to me is the fact that media ripped it into shreds, not realizing the movie is about them to big parts, while still unconsciously hating it for that. One of the greatest movies in terms of critizising everything wrong with society. Every bit of the movie is so realistic while still being satirical. Makes me sad that we have lost so much of our original humanity. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone because I am part of the problem every bit as much as other people, but still. This movie reached deep into me and made me cry like a little baby in the end
If this movie was about climate change, it proves how delusional Liberals are. Climate change has been ongoing since before the dawn of mankind and it will always exist no matter what. Nothing humans do will end climate change, until we can literally build planets ourselves. Climate change is natural and will slowly happen over time as we adapt and survive as usual. As time passes we will continue to advance and adapt to climate change more effectively than before. Even if we are accelerating global warming through industry, the rate of change is still manageable and nothing close to an emergency. There is literally nothing to fear with climate change in the short term. Everyone you know will be dust in the ground before real change takes place, which will be up to future generations to adapt to as usual. If we survived ice ages in the ancient past and other global catastrophes without modern knowledge and technology, climate change is the least of our worries. There are countless other things that will end humanity well before climate change does. If this movie was about Covid, then that proves even further how delusional Liberals have become. And if this movie was somehow about Trump attacking our democracy and ruining the world, well, now we can all see it was Biden and the Democrats talking about themselves while projecting onto Trump as usual. Fake News and entertainment industry fear mongering propaganda is why everything has gotten so much worse the past few years. Sad how the Leftist half of society won't look up and see the reality of their delusions and poor decisions.

I love how they show little clips of animals. Almost every “end of the world” movie shows humans in their last moments but no one considers that animals are also part of the life of this planet.

I think that, for the budget, and little cheesiness aside, they did a good effort.
Not a perfect movie site but it’s one of those rare cases where a Netflix original movie is actually pretty good.

For me, this is by far the best disaster film, and the perfect ending to the world. Leo’s quote: “We had everything didn’t we”, shows the beauty of life and how it must be treasured because it can easily be wiped out.

Watching all those nature and animal scenes, the baby happy in the water, etc give me a lot of feels, DAMN I LOVE THIS PLANET AND ALL IT'S CREATURES AND LIVE ON IT. ❤😢

This is by far one of the most realistic world destruction I've ever seen in a movie. My respect to a movie that is so raw about it.
Naaah. Good movie, but I still stand by These Final Hours (Australia, 2014) being the rawest out there.
It shows basically the destruction of a lunchroom.
It is not realistic, because the meteor would be cause a EMP, this finishing the eletricity power of the world

well the house would probably first have collapsed from the earthquakes probably. if not, they would probably have burned to death from the heat of the ejecta cloud or from the fires it caused. The medior shower cause by the explosion would have heated the atmosphere to oven like temperatures for a few minutes. they might have survived those underground. but then they probably would have died from the poison gasses in the atmosphere. if they had hazmat masks and survived the other stuff, they would probably not be able to grow food because no sun light because of all the dust in the atmosphere and agriculture infrastructure is fucked. so basically you need seeds, soil or hydroponics equipment, grow lights, and electrical generators with steady fuel to grow plants, but thats hard to come by post-apocalypse . its possible some people survive. But no the pressure wave from the blast would not have been that powerful by the time it reached them. makes for an excellent end scene tho
it's been like two years and this ending still emotionally wrecks me. i haven't even watched the whole film. it's just perfect.
It’s weird, I always cry in the end scene, part of it is because I sympathize with the protagonists who just got blown to pieces…..but I get a deep deep fear and uncomfortable feeling inside.
The ending so perfectly captured what it’s like to die without any choice or do praise you just have to fucking except it even though you really can’t shake the fear. To have to just push through and pretend to not be afraid. It’s terrifying. This depicts what it would most likely be like for me aswell. Chilling well done stuff.

Jesus Christ, this ending hit me like a truck. The scene where they're talking at the table and they run out of things to say so they just try to make things up to distract them from unavoidable doom made me shad a tear. Amazing movie.
I don´t know why they don´t party like crazy. If you are going to go, do it with a bang? a ticket to a place as close to ground zero as possible, and watch the show while partying until the end.

The face of JLaw's character was one of silent anger over the mishandling of the crisis that led to their deaths.

I was very skeptical of this movie at first but I got to say, this was actually a really good movie and this ending scene was a masterpiece that really puts things in a super tangible perspective. Not a lot of movies can claim that. Genuinely a humbling end despite the satirical nature of the film.
Humbling is the KEY word there! And the audacity of our species to claim that whatever force created the Universe, made us in its likeness is probably why this planet is in SUCH a sorry state!
Religious Arrogance has to be the ULTIMATE arrogance, since if one believes that they are made in God's image, then that would fool them into believing that they can literally do Anything!

The ending of this movie isn't what scared me given that this scene was downright terrifying. What really scares me is that this could legitimately happen irl given the chaotic state of the world
I mean realistically, the odds are against this happening in our lifetime, even tho in the end I guess that doesn’t really matter. But I’m a firm believer that nasa or someone truly does have or is developing something to stop a situation similar to this.

The whole film is an allegory of the climate crisis and the governments (with a focus here on the US government), who don't want to do anything about it and only care to make themselves richer by ignoring an invisible threatening who nevertheless is present and get's even more threatening with time.

98% of the time, the only way a movie will make me cry is if an animal dies in a significant way (Marley and Me for example), but oh my GOD was I sobbing at this. The way they all tried to continue as if this wouldn't be their last moments, the glimpses of life in all its forms, the weight of the situation. It sounds horrible, but this was my favorite part of the movie. It was so deep without being too philosophical, so heartbreaking and wholesome, just absolutely breathtaking and beautiful and brilliant. The essence of living on this planet, captured in two minutes and thirty nine seconds.
The scene of the indigenous elder on a mountain ledge dancing with his drum is the most beautiful in this sequence but my god all of it is raw with emotion. We're powerless against the powerful few, and if they succeed it's bad.. and if they fail it's worse
When the house starts to shake and everyone is looking at each other on the verge of tears yet they push on and keep making idle chit chat, that gets me. You can see the fear breaking through, the heartbreak that all of human civilization is coming to an end. They really tried their hardest, but it just wasn't enough in the face of the worst humankind had to offer.
I think it's meant to represent the fear and awkward, idle chit chat that families everywhere have to make at the dinner table, during times of uncertainty, when the world around them seems to be falling apart, and realizing that there is little that can be done but to carry on living with the weight of that uncertainty on their shoulders.
Accounting for the film being after all a satirical commentary on the political divisions in this country, that is, I think the film wants us to understand that peoples, domestically in the United States as well as abroad, face these catastrophes very frequently (economic collapse, the pandemic, military conflicts, humanitarian catastrophes, etc), but our inability to communicate across political ideologies prevent us from dealing with this problems, and sooner or later we will face the bitter end to it all (the comet impact) because we failed ourselves in dealing with them. Their dinner is a sad act of resignation, and acceptance of the fact that the world is the way it is, and whatever may come is inevitable because of the way we are.
Realistic for adults who accepted their fate. A large number of Christians would attempt this, we aren’t afraid of dying that much, we know there’s another side as long as you are a believer and ask for forgiveness.

I dont know if this was intended or not, but the way this film is set up, the viewer doesnt really take any of the first 3/4 of the movie seriously either, because its written as almost a comedy, until everyone can finally see the comet. Then the tone darkens and we, like the rest of the characters, finally start to take it seriously and the fear slowly rushes in. And the main cast are the only ones who have had time to freak out and finally make peace with it, because neither the viewer nor the people in the movie expected it to turn so devastating in the end. Absolutely fucking genius.

I absolutely loved this movie, it had me laughing constantly, more than I have laughed in a long time. The ending was superb. I don't understand why this got such bad ratings. I suspect half the people hated it because they saw themselves being mocked. The great part is that absolutely everyone got mocked, no one went unscathed and you really should have just saw yourself and laughed at the impression.
And I'm sure most of the bad ratings came from people who never even watched it.
Actually, its because of bad movie execution, a tragic ending where everyone dies could've done better, stop coping and make excuses just because it isn't conforming with your opinions. The movie is a nice theme and concept but a wasted potential.

The entire process from discovering the threat over managing it and failing because of conspiracy believes, mistrust in science and money interested authorities all the way to the actual end of the world. I don't see wasted potential, I see an extremely realistic parody of current behaviours towards climate change. And that was the goal of the movie, therefore it worked, I think.

If you think about it, beating a drum and dancing on top of a mountain all alone might sound sad... but in a way he might be feeling similar to the family eating dinner together - they know the world is ending yet there's a sense of peace and acceptance. Drummung on a mountain might be a better end than being in a major city surrounded by people all panicking and it's total chaos. Ironic... surrounded by people yet really you're all alone because everyone will be in survival mode all looting and focused on saving themselves.

This movie is a masterpiece in my opinion, it really throws you on the whole emotional spectrum. I also support its message and I love the way it parodies our society.

It's been a long LONG time since my heart has been touched by a movie, and this one scene where the group is just spending their last moments talking to each other and having one final meal together, that seriously almost brought me to tears
I love that that ending scene shows like accually end of ALL the world, not only humans. At the final moments all of the earth species are sort of united. That's hits me, those short clips of every type of human's and animals in the face of death. Great movie,epic scenes.
I think what I like most about the movie is that literally no one cares until they can see the asteroid. Hits home the dangerous human mind's needs to see before believing. It's so ingrained in our heads that even the scientists are both shocked and to some extent feel vindicated when they can finally see it.

It is going to suck for the what's left if Humanity, most of the survivors are going to be in Europe especially with all of these "end of the world" bunkers they have.
Well it is kind of like with the day after tomorrow the guy was telling the higher up about the danger and they thought he was crazy and even after the crazy events on Los Angeles they still didn't believe him and wouldn't give access to the satellite. I think people go with the notion of "not in my lifetime" but in the movies when it does happen they deny it is happening I think these disaster movies do a great job depicting that aspect of the human race in the event potential total destruction.
I feel that this was a jab at Donald Trump with his precautions against Covid.
Because you can't see the virus, and the fact that Trump was saying everything was all good for months, people believed that and ended up having hundreds of thousands of cases.

this is such a great movie and the ending always gets me without fail. I love that they actually wiped out everything/everyone rather than going for a cliche last second happy ending. the way they’re sitting there, knowing that they failed, but also that they did everything they could, and that at least they’re there in the end having one last dinner, together, is so bittersweet and the best way they could have ended the movie. honestly, the only other disaster movie ending I can think of that brought me to tears the first time I watched like this was seeking a friend for the end of the world (I’d highly recommend that movie too). they did everything right with this one.
The most unique thing about this film is showing the apocalypse on such a personal perspective without the heroic antics, but just base human emotions of dread, fear, hopelessness that is both beautiful and terrifying.

The scene with the shaman is really beautiful.
The dinner scene made the movie for me. The short freeze frames, flashes of life, the body language when Mindy holds his son's shoulder and he looks back at him in fear. The short quips about silly little things like store bought vs. homemade. And the last line Mindy says, "we really did have everything didn't we?" was a real kick in the balls. We don't appreciate what we have until its gone.
Ngl I haven seen the movie yet never heard of it till recently and out of curiousity I had to watch this after watching the reviews etc and I actually was emotional and scared along with them .. and yes 100% agree with what he said at the end, we really do have it all and more.. 😢

Maybe it's just me, but the 1:20 man with the drum was the best comment on the humanity as a whole. Like summing up all our history, beliefs and hubris that characterizes humanity thoughout history. The sky is falling, world is burning and there he is, trying to avert the catastrophy by chanting and beating in his little drum with a stick. The pinnacle of knowledge of his times, just as effective as nukes, in fight for survival... with a rock. Pure poetry.
My wife had asked me one time what would we do if the world was ending like this. I looked at my two sons and then looked at her and said.

When everything turns to end, I would probably simply watch the final act of humanity. There is beauty in destruction, and my God what a spectacle the end of a civilization would be. And when it all comes to a conclusion we will find out what lies beyond the veil of life.

I was in complete awe at this scene. After a Rollercoaster of comedy and satire, the fact that they played the ending straight was gut wrenching. This is going to be a scene taught in film classes for decades to come.

There is something strangely peaceful about this ending. They know that the world is ending while they eat, but they realize that they can no longer do anything and the end is inevitable. He hoped for an ending where the government recapped and destroyed the asteroid at the last minute and a happy ending. What am I going to do the day the world ends?

The movie showing the beauties of nature, animals, humans and earth itself was fantastic. It gave the scene a really nice emotional tone when one realizes all of that is going to dissapear forever.
It’s like the assisted suicide scene in Soylent Green. Go to that happy place in videos. Though these animals knew what was up.
Yeah, they really didn't pull any punches with that sequence. From 0:10 on it's a long stretch of "and here's another nice thing that the comet's about to wipe out".

One point showing the tremendous attention to detail in this sequence: the impact occurs off the coast of Chile and the atmospheric shock wave radiates out from there but some time before its arrival the house shakes from an earth tremor as the seismic disturbance through the core of the planet makes it there sooner. This gives them some final moments to reflect on their loss before the blast hits them.
A real attention to detail is how this is hardly likely to happen. We can see out into space thousands of miles. Realistically we would just hit the asteroid out of the way as we did for the last two that came close to earth.
@@bcount1 You are so wrong about that on so many levels. Remember the meteor that flew over and burnt up over russia in 2013? we didnt see it coming. what makes it even luckier for us is the fact that if it were to have come at a slightly steeper angle it could have killed thousands.
We simply dont know where EVERYTHING is. yes we know where LOTS of near earth objects are but we 100% dont know where everything is because of how dark they are or because how how bright the sun is

@@bcount1 They saw it from far away in the movie and had a plan that would have successfully destroyed the asteroid. But a tech CEO discovered lots of valuable metals on the asteroid, so the mission was canceled, and a new mission was planned to use experimental mining robots to break up the asteroid so the metals could be used on earth.
Being experimental technology, the mining robots failed, and at that point the asteroid was too close to earth to be stopped. But the rich had a back up plan, them and a bunch of their friends got on a ship in cryo to travel to another solar system. They landed on the planet and were killed by alien animals in the credits scene.

This movie's ending has got to be one of the most hauntingly accurate depiction of facing death head-on.
When everyone is running and panicking, they are just there in the table, idly chatting about life and all it could offer one last time. Until the end where they have come to the complete realization that death is an imminent occurrence, finding comfort in each other while whole-heartedly accepting their doom while the music gradually increases in it's resonance as the world shakes; after that, the world's gone silent, and as the piano pours it's emotion of nothingness completely consuming the atmosphere's noise, then come the destruction.
The movie might had a satirical tone but the ending just pulls it off to such a remarkable degree that the obvious message were delivered beautifully and leaving the audience speechless. One of the most eye-opening movies that kept people entertained.
I still have issue with interstellar spacecraft they had in the end though. They were launching shuttles and missiles before but they suddenly jumped technically ahead with a craft they couldn't possibly have launched given its size, along with cryogenics.
@@questworldmatrix As realistic the comet is, I think the directors just had a little bit of fun with that portion of the movie. I have no knowledge of cryogenics and how it could preserve humans from such prolonged period of time so I obviously don't know how it would work even if it did exist, they might had just added it in a joke to reflect on the rich people's fate that when you ruin people's lives with greed, you'll eventually see yourself in the same position.
With the instant lunching of shuttles though, I would reckon that the directors did such a thing to present to us the part of the last humans inhabiting the new planet, and without that I guess the movie would have been more ambiguous and open-ended for the audience which is still could have been fine but they obviously wanted to make fun to it as a conclusion.
It's a satirical movie at it's core and that scene could be the movie's punchline. It's oddly ironic that when those people landed on the habitable planet, it kinda reminded me of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden but instead of repopulating the 'new earth' they got killed in a few minutes which is hilarious on my opinion.
The acting in this scene was amazing, you could see the characters trying to compose themselves with the fear almost breaking
through every now and then. It’s a powerful scene.

That last line, I think, was truly a life altering moment for me. It really sent the message home. I've literally been all over apocalyptic stuff since I first discovered the walking dead comics, and but I think that that line hit me incredibly hard, even then.
No apocalyptic medium actually had a line like that, and believe me I'd know! but a line right before the moment it's all gone that isn't full of trying to desperately hold on to every single moment before it's all gone, knowing there is no longer hope, there is no better thing than to reflect. I think the frustration and fighting for life throughout, struggling to make extinction understood, really made the line stand out as the one that tells us that accepting the inevitable is the greatest peace of all.
this entire movie is so beautiful, such an incredible message that we all must cherish what we love and to always look up and see the truth instead of what others want you to see.
I love how this scene was slow and behind Jennifer Lawrence was the cracking walls and then suddenly a crash, boom, and fire. I love how realistic it is because when you think how you die, sometimes imagine that it will be like what you see in the movies, but it happens so quick.

I was so invested into the movie that once the lights started flickering and the table started shaking I had a mini anxiety attack. My heart literally rose as if I was embracing myself. 10/10.

You know I would even add that the ending scene, especially with the coffee and things going slow-mo and collapsing or particalizing would be a great kind of scene for a movie of psychedelic proportions,
While the majority of this movie was a hilarious satire of modern society, media, and politics. This ending was surprisingly very powerful and beautifully executed. The idea of just simply enjoying your final moments of life at the dinner table with your loved ones, while the world around you collapses and dies makes this ending absolutely unforgettable. Rarely have world-ending films depict the demise of Earth in such a calm, heart-warming, yet haunting way.
other strong endings are 'seeking a friend for the end of the world' and 'these final hours'
I was very surprised that as perverted and immoral as Hollywood can be, they showed a traditional family in prayer in such a positive light.
@@after_midnight9592 Adam McKay's (the director) mother is a born again Christian, and a big part of Timothee Chalamet accepting the role was that he wanted his character to have some "heart." What's also interesting is it actually shows how even relatively atheist / agnostic people will seek comfort in prayer in times of trouble. Finding solace in prayer has happened for millenia, and regardless of if there's a God or not (I personally believe there is), there's nothing wrong with using it as a source of comfort.

@@ericg6886 It's one of those things that doesn't hurt to try. I don't think it's smart to dedicate and limit your life so much for something that may or may not exist, but if you're about to die, then it doesn't hurt to at least try.

I gotta say, the native dancing as the meteors hit is the most impactful scene I've seen in a movie in a really really long time.
