Never pick a character from tier lists. Pros often have different tier lists anyways. Also, people see these lists and make these characters more common, so most people already know how to play against it. Pick play style and what you like. Its easier to enjoy based off of passion. Play the trials. Play everyone's trials.

I think when ur at the lvl where tier lists actually matter you're probably good enough at the game to know who the good characters are and which ones aren't without needing a tier list anyway.
This is one of ~THE~ best tutorials on Mortal Kombat 1 that I have found. Easy to understand and helpful. I hope you can update when DLC characters come out.

For the main to the main to characters are so much fun subzero and scorpion. I chose subzero. It’s awesome ice clone gives you so many options to mix it up
Just picked this game up the other day and I decided on Kitana, mostly because I love her design and animations. Pairing her with Scorpion to give her an overhead and steer people into her wind bomb is so much fun.
i chose johnny and smoke because i’ve always loved rushdown/fast characters in fighting games. also my older brother played johnny in mk11 so i fell in love with him prior to the game’s release
My main is Reptile, and I have been a Reptile main since MK9(2011). But this Reptile in MK1 he is easy to pick up. His design is the best and will always be a Reptile main.
I play Reiko because I love his kit, his parry, and B4 reminded me alot of my Tekken 7 main Jin, that paired with his medium to long ranged kicks and shuriken to play a spacing / neutral game it felt very good to pick him up. Although lately I've been thinking about switching because he's slow as shit which is what brought me here
I picked Li Mei because she felt really good to play in the story. I usually play the brawler, grappler, or rush down archetypes so I have been playing her pretty aggressive

My main has always been lui kang I’ve been playing since 9 it’s who I’m comfortable with now back in 9 he only had about 6 or 7 great combos the rest were very mid or difficult to engage the newer ones including this new one it’s like he buffed each time especially now so it works in my favor
I decided to main Smoke. I was a Rain main in MK11 but he changed so much in Mk1, he looked cool bur just not my play style. Smoke on the other hand, is cool af and i love playing him. He’s simple but in-depth and i just love his whole kit… definitely the character that clicked the most with me
I picked Geras, because I always love characters with time abilities, I'm having a hard time because I'm terrible at fighting games, still having lots of fun though, but he really is a cool character.
I picked rain because his pokes are one of the best pokes in game also he is pretty good at any range he is not a zoner at all, his buttons are good too and i like his play style and design
I decided to pick Scorpion because, yes he’s easy to play but, that’s not at all why I picked him, I picked him because he’s always been my favorite MK character lore wise as well there’s just something about the tragic badass type of fighter that I have always enjoyed and Scorpion to me is easily the pinnacle of that in fighting games at least lore wise and I think he will be my main for sure.
i've missed Smoke so much since MK9 and so with noy beeing main roster, was def my 1st choice to main...as a 2nd main, i had to go with reiko because he looks like a roman general tank and even tho in story he was a punching bag he is so badass and i really find him comfortable to play wich for me is surprinsingly as i've always hated grapplers
Its hard to pick a main...every time I try a new character and get the hang of their buttons I'm like *gasp* i get it! And I have a blast playing with them for a while. Theres characters where I definitely don't jive. 🤷 lol thanks for the vid though!

I can't wait to get into the game later today and try out the characters. I'm thinking of trying nitara, mileena and smoke and picking my main from who ever I like best, but i think I'll give them all a try before i decide.

@@marcelmichels2925 yeah I will say, she’s hard to learn, her moves are not necessarily hard, but getting her moves put 2gether is hard when going for combos, I’ve bounced back to Sub Zero a few times bc he’s easier for me, so I do understand what you’re saying but I can’t wrap my head around not using her, idk if you played story but this game made her my new favorite character, her story arch, looks, move set etc so if you think you will give her a shot, I think you should, you don’t see a lot of Mileena players online so the more the better 🦾 she’s rated a top 5 character by HoneyBee, no that doesn’t necessarily matter, I’m just pointing that out bc though you don’t see a lot of her, it’s probably bc she’s harder to learn but worth it, I’d say do what I’m doing, keep her offline till you get good with her & just invasion mode with her, go to practice mode & do her character specific tutorial.
The first mk I ever played was mk11 and I chose Kung lao and that’s who I want to use in mk1 so I’m trying to learn him because I’m already pretty decent with him
I am still waiting for Quan Chi, but as the first character, i decided to main Reptile. It was a combination of all reasons. I started with choosing the best looking ones, then threw away the ones, whose play style i didn't like (Li Mei. Looks badass, but i didn't like playing her). Then i dropped out more complicated characters, to not do monkey work while learning the basics (Shang Tsung and Rain). So at the end, i was left with reptile, baraka and scorpion. Then i checked the tier list to not accidentally make my life harder with bottom characters (again, nothing against playing weaker chars, but not as the first main). So i was left with baraka and reptile, but i already started with baraka in mk11, so i settled with reptile
I main Smoke (yeah, I know), and I came to this video looking for a secondary character to push me outside of my usual playstyle. I think I'm going to go with Rain

I mained: Reptile in MK 2009 (Raiden was my second) Kenshi in MKX (Raiden was my second) Raiden in MK11 (Sub-Zero was my second) These 4 are my 4 fav characters in the MK universe. Juggling is when you keep your opponent in the air while you keep doing combos while you on the ground, in Mortal Kombat it requires a lot of precise timings to to it.

I chose Mileena, I’ve been a Noob Saibot main since MK Armageddon, he wasn’t in MKX so I actually at the time used Scoprion, my play style is mix ups, I’m not the best at flat rush down or zoning so I need mix ups, so I went into MK1 after playin the Beta, thinking I’m going to main Bi-Han before he became Noob, why bc of his mix ups & sticking to a character I love, so I have actually spent time with Sub Zero in MK1 after release, I’ve beat the game, but now go back to looks, I just can’t stop thinking about Mileena in story mode & her looks, her style in the fight, her taunts, everything so her looks & personality are a big part of it, then she’s got Mix ups, so for me it’s 3 things, her looks, her story arch, & her Personality & actually 4 things, her mix ups. Now if you’re facing a Zoner with her, all you gotta do is time her teleport & if you amp it, it does a cool animation for more damage.

My MK mains are usually Reptile and Jade. When Jade isn't available I play Kitana. So far I'm also really digging Sindel and Ashrah.

I've started playing with Sindel since mk11 and she's my main in mk1 as well. The empress is the best option for me! I love my Banshee lady!

I chose Mileena, I’ve been a Noob Saibot main since MK Armageddon, he wasn’t in MKX so I actually at the time used Scoprion, my play style is mix ups, I’m not the best at flat rush down or zoning so I need mix ups, so I went into MK1 after playin the Beta, thinking I’m going to main Bi-Han before he became Noob, why bc of his mix ups & sticking to a character I love, so I have actually spent time with Sub Zero in MK1 after release, I’ve beat the game, but now go back to looks, I just can’t stop thinking about Mileena in story mode & her looks, her style in the fight, her taunts, everything so her looks & personality are a big part of it, then she’s got Mix ups, so for me it’s 3 things, her looks, her story arch, & her Personality & actually 4 things, her mix ups. Now if you’re facing a Zoner with her, all you gotta do is time her teleport & if you amp it, it does a cool animation for more damage.
Thank you for this video! I'm having a hard time choosing between: Scorpion, Sub-zero, Raiden, or Liu Kang. I like them in terms of character and playstyle. I'm also messing up on combos. Aside from getting good, what do you recommend?
