Katana Zero - Gold medal Speedrun - A step by step guide

- Hello there! I decided to make an (hopefully) easy to follow guide on how to score a gold medal on a speedrun in Katana Zero for the achievement. Should you have any questions, let me know in the comments.

Here's some corrections/additional information to the video as there's some mistakes
Gold medal: Medals have a value of 0 to 4 (no medal, bronze, silver, gold, plat) and to obtain the gold medal for the full run the average value of the medals of all of the stages needs to be at 3 or above, so this means that you can get a full run gold medal if you've got for example one silver one plat and the rest gold ones. This means that it's best to obtain a plat medal on a few easy stages (as plat medal is just a gold one but with no deaths) and those stages are: factory, hotel, prison. This gives you breathing room to mess up a few stages. Also the final run time with a gold medal will end somewhere around ~30 mins.
Controller vs Keyboard: controller isn't really that much different to a keyboard and mouse, you can easily achieve the same time as on keyboard with a controller, so pick what you've already used to play the game as that's going to be the most familiar for you.
Settings: You also need to set Skip Rewind to ON in the game settings as it removes the animation of zero backtracking on a quick restart/death.
Slow-mo: if your goal is just the gold medal, do take the slow-mo as death is a huge timeloss as compared to just sporadic slow-mo use that may save you from dying
Quick restarts: There's a few more places where it's beneficial to quick restart as that will put your starting location further into the room, like in the last room in hotel and in the fifth room of club
Club-1: You don't need to time the last jump over the guard, just wait in the crowd for the guard walk away from you
Studio elevator order: Space -> quiet -> doom is the fastest order because it results in the elevator animation taking the least amount of time (like around a second faster as compared to other orders of taking the elevator)
V bossfight: you can just die 7 times to V, which will finish the bossfight as well, although it's slower but dead easy
Moto: There's 5 spots during moto where quick restarting saves time so don't do it everytime the floppy disk appears, the points at which to do it are at 22:40 23:19 23:45 24:04 24:10
Heli bossfight: during the random rocket attacks when they go after you, don't try to hug the walls but rather keep to the middle of the road as that gives you more possible space to dodge the attacks. Also right after deflecting the 3rd (last) bullet into the heli, start moving to the left side of the screen, as zero will then automatically gets moved to the left anyway so the longer he does that the longer you have to wait.
Slaughterhouse skip: The terry's corpse flying through the camera is the thing that alerts the camera, not the kill itself so as long as you slash to the left while killing the terry, the terry's corpse will not go through the camera, ALSO make sure not to trigger the camera and then cut the wire, as that will fail the skip in the next rooms.
Bunker 1: Just before each room is started quick mash the quick restart button (or time it) as that shaves like half a second of waiting for the elevator door to open.

Ok camera , pretend they are a laser and roll under then to dodge their sight, , if so that then the camera won’t activate, u know if done correct

@@alirdvan407this is kinda necroing but im saying this to anyone in the future who is having problems. The thing I missed at first was that you have to never activate any cameras so not even if you cut the wires afterwards. In the first employer room you have to kill the terry in a way that he wont fly into the camera and then after roll under it. If you activate any of the cameras you need to restart that room. I recommend binding a key to quick restart
Finally got my gold medal, thank you for showing me a lot of shortcuts.
You only need to surpass the medal times for each zone individually, so don't worry too much about saving seconds over the course of the run. If a certain strat causes you to fail often, just don't do it. I got the achievement today and did not learn the guard jumping strat at the club (which I did eat a silver medal for to be fair), or the fast restarts, and just did room strats that I could get consistently. Practice the levels you're getting silver on, and try to get some of those early platinums to cover potential silvers

The problem here are not the shortcuts, but the amount of concentration and precision required to perform the complete speedrun, it would be more fair to allow people make this speedrun level by level instead of a complete speedrun everytime, it's not imposible, it just needs for you to be able to spend that many time to adquire the necesary skills so the speedrun is posible to perform...

Tysm 4 the tips
idk if im doing something wrong, but I have noticed in the club neon section the starting cutscenes of each stage are causing the guards to be in the wrong cycle, I always get caught by the first guard on the first run and effortlessly get the skips on the second one, I'm just gonna take the gold over the plat medal but this seems strange, I wish that whole level start shit was skippable.
Edit: I have later learnt that actual runs quick restart immediately to get this cycle to refresh
Do you have a recommendation for swords because I’m having mixed feelings because the baisic katana is baisically a pushover because prism is cooler and the SOM looks to be a good choice the dagger/knife thing is weird and the last 2 seem basically useless depending on what your going for that is

I had the same issue but the problem was that the first camera had been activated. If the light goes red on the camera you screwed up. GL!

Question about the speed run. Do you need to do it all in one go for gold or can you do it level by level one at a time?
I am only at 6th Stage and Already have 14 minutes..that is hell
It makes really no sense how to avoid the cameras . I m doing he same and it doesnt work. Really lame to get a gold medall just by some kind of wierd bug to avoid the part :)

Don't know if you will see this but what is the minimum time in order to get the gold medal achievement. Ive gotten 28 :49 but it still hasn't given me the achievement
Speed wise you're fine, but dying brings down the medals quite a lot, so focus on that
Whats the best sword to use? Do you use base out of just personal preference?
A lot of speedruners prefer savant knife as it allows you to swing really fast, being able to counter machine gun grunts and being able to float
But if you don't like using that then stick 2 the stock
How do you press the down button on the stairs without falling? Maybe you said it in the video but my English is not good enough
By default, the enter button is roll. Which is how you can roll on PC without going down the stairs. I'd recommend rebinding that though.
How do you kill multiple people at once with one slash?

se ainda não tiver conseguido, recomendo treinar todas as fases separadamente até pegar ouro consistentemente, é bom conseguir pegar platina nas fases 1,2,3,4,5,8. Eu peguei com uns 30 min e umas 25 mortes. Por isso digo que a melhor dica é pegar platina nas fases mais fáceis
