  • Join Rich as he encounters some common issues while commissioning a newly installed Rheem Stellar hot water system in Perth's northern suburbs.
In this video, our customer in Warwick WA gave us a whistle because his old Vulcan hot water system wasn't providing hot water to the house. Issues with the tempering valve which needed replacing and no service history on the old unit led Rich to recommend an upgrade to the old hot water system. Whilst commissioning the new system, Rich uncovers a few common issues that can occur after a new installation and explains why the cheapest quote is not always the best quote and that you really do get top quality service and workmanship when you have our Plumbdog plumbers attend your property.
Watch the video to hear our Top Dog Rich explain why you get what you pay for and why you shouldn't just jump at the cheapest quote. He explains how we correctly commission a new hot water system to ensure it is working efficiently and correctly for our clients. Rich and shares his extensive knowledge with us showing us why he’s a pedigree plumber.
    In The Video:
[0:01] NEW VAN SIGNAGE - We're super proud of our new van signage. We book lots of jobs for people who see our eye catching vans driving around the suburbs of the greater Perth region. Rich gives you a glimpse of the vans new livery.
[0:50] THE EXPLAINER - Rich has installed the new Rheem Stellar hot water system and is ready to commission it. He explains how our Plumbdog Plumbers go about completing the final commissioning to a high standard and that other plumbing companies who install systems for a base price wouldn't be completing these important steps to ensure the new system is safe and efficient for the new owners. He explains how all our Plumbdog Plumbers go through rigorous training to ensure that they know how to test and commission new appliances.
[2:00] FAILED GAS TEST- Rich puts the new unit to gas test and after a few adjustments tells us its failed. He has deduced that the issue is either with the gas pipe size or at the meter.
[3:12] GAS REGULATOR FAILURE- A quick test at the gas meter with all gas appliances in the home running shows Rich that the 1.25kpa regulator is the issue.
[4:00] REGULATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED - Rich shows us the new regulator freshly installed by ATCO who capped off the gas supply until he could return and reinstate it.
[5:06] COMMISSIONING TIME - With a new gas regulator installed at the meter, Rich can begin the commissioning process again. Once the unit is fired up and running, the working pressure test can begin. This test requires all gas appliances at the property to be in service. The series of tests Rich conducts all pass and the new hot water unit has also passed and is ready to supply piping hot water to the home.
It's important to remember that when you are choosing your new hot water system, you are not only choosing the price of the unit and installation, you are choosing the quality of workmanship as well. A poorly installed hot water unit could cost you in the long run, despite being a cheap purchase at the time. Aside from the potential danger of an incorrectly commissioned hot water unit, the ongoing gas costs for a cheaply installed unit will add up if the gas supply hasn't passed the pressure tests that Plumbdog plumbers always carry out before handing over to our clients.
We’re committed to conducting quality plumbing and outstanding workmanship to every job we attend. We are a proud pack of Plumbdogs who take a lot of pride and place great value on doing our best work for each and every job.
Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoyed the video.
