    I can’t even be mad with Season 6 because it was obvious Polly was gonna be a major component of it (Tommy’s war with Michael would’ve driven her to the brink) and Helen’s passing, I won’t say doomed the season, but unavoidably put a very dark cloud over it.

      It’s crazy cuz sad to say I feel her passing made the show that much more impactful starting season 6 seeing her passing hit so hard (at the time I didn’t know she passed IRL) but you can see how much it changed and impacted Tommy

      @@ItsYent It definitely made the season more impactful. I will say, though, that given when her IRL passing occurred, the show wasn’t able to give her character more a noble, more dignified death. John even went out in a blaze of glory with his army rifle against a bunch of Tommy Guns. We couldn’t see her character get a more impactful death.

    I think Season 5 is my favorite. It was a welcomed departure from the formula of seasons 1-4 where the antagonist/villain is introduced early on, and then through the course of the season and one (or two) twists, the villain is defeated and Tommy wins. The season 5 finale subverted those expectations and Tommy loses to Mosley, proving that he’s the toughest foe that Tommy has faced yet.

      Here's my issue with season 5 though. Mosley didn't feel like an intimidating villain. I never once hated him or even cared about him in the slightest, same with Sabini. In contrast, Campbell and Luca made me care for them, I enjoyed watching them on screen and how they contrasted as well as how similar they were to Tommy. I'd rank the show 1, 4, 3, 6, 5.

    I hate the 6th season. Not because it was the "end" but because of the horrible ending to the 5 season Michael arch. Dude literally sat in prison all season, but was built up as Tommy's "rival" for 4 seasons....
    Also the strange directorial choices that really hurt the suspension of disbelief. The light highlighting Mosley's wife as she first appears was so strange given nothing like that had been done in the show prior. So many ways to subconsciously establish a character as evil, but that was just weirdly obvious. It made the story feel even more thrown togetger, like a big sign saying, "oh hey yea this is the bad guy now"

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah I definitely get what you mean, the biggest let down for me in season 6 was the lack of Michael as an antagonist, especially considering he could have been a great final villain... Helen Mccrory's unfortunate passing lead to this decision of him being 'stagnant' I believe. Also, I know what you mean with the 'strange directorial choices' and that lighting of Diana and Tommy was weird... but besides that, I still think the cinematography and stylishness of the show was great!

    • @patrickconrad396
      @patrickconrad396 11 месяцев назад +1

      @PowerHubShorts I definitely loved most of the directorial choices.. honestly just the one that bothered me a lot. Maybe it's because the season felt disjointed and anticlimactic, but that one lighting moment was like a switch in my head, and I didn't enjoy the rest of the season lol.
      I definitely thought they would have pulled a Michael redemption arch. Would have fit with Polly's last wishes, they could have worked in a nice farewell to Helen McCrory that way, and frankly killing your nephew, but sparing the Nazi doctor felt like a weird choice too 😂

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@patrickconrad396 Him sparing the Nazi doctor was more so the "end" for Tommy's 'evil' life... the 11th hour means peace etc... so that i'm ok with. As for Michael, he killed him because he straight out betrayed the family, and quite directly attempted to kill Tommy. Part of me wanted to see Michael have a redemption in the way that he was actually working with Tommy the whole time infiltrating the American gangs etc to bring them down (including Jack Nelson) and then give Peaky complete control of Boston and England.

    I dont really understand why season 6 and 5 have such mixed reception, I felt the atmosphere and direction was so dark, sad and lonely, that final scene in an episode of season 5 with the swan ballet was genuinely one of the most powerful scenes in anything ive seen. The musical choices are stellar, 5.17 is a beautiful track, when Arthur and Tommy hug in the finale, there are just so so many powerful moments. I honestly just wish that Michael was a scarier villain that broke the mold with Tommy's domination, and I didnt like what they did with Finn at all (I never realised I was meant to dislike him, I thought he was just being mislead by everyone)

    • @trevordavis6830
      @trevordavis6830 7 месяцев назад +1

      I think its because in the earlier seasons the show was more of a pulp anti-hero crime show rather than a dark and gritty one. Sure the main characters were criminals who did bad things, but the show would always make up excuses for their behavior making everyone they targeted be worse people and would indulge in that wish fulfillment fantasy through Tommy by making him this near untouchable badass that almost every female character ends up wanting to sleep with. Like prior to season 5 the worst thing any of the Blinders do was killing Luca's father and blowing up a train, but the former is framed as a "this is leagues worse than anything we've done before" and the latter was framed as a last resort. You could very easily watch the first 4 seasons as fun popcorn flicks featuring protagonists that you can mostly unambiguously root for.
      In season 5 and 6 however, a lot of that pulpy anti-hero vibe is gone and we really get to see these characters be shitty criminals and have to deal with the negative fallout of their actions far more than ever before. They're still trying to be good people and the villains are way worse, but a lot of their actions become more unjustifiable(like Arthur maiming Linda's friend and almost marital raping her) and the characters have little to any clear or clean victories. So if you were someone who liked the first 4 seasons as more of a pulp action crime flick and not as a gritty drama, the seasons 5 and 6 would probably be pretty hard to watch and enjoy.

      @davidbadihi3915 Месяц назад

      Also the plot Lines were bad that is why. Season 6 for example, Micheal’s character arc was very poorly executed. He was in jail whole season and in the end, just boom no pay off or even slight pay off or anything major or chaotic coming from him, it just happend cause of plot?. And Tommy’s journey to the wilderness? And there was so much filler where the scenes should have been much shorter. Season 6 despite it’s pacing problems and plot 6x1 and 6x6 was still good. But the direction and plot in general wasn’t. It kinda felt like season 6 was just extra or bonus ampting up for the upcoming movie they have coming. Which i hope will be a banger

    Season 6 missed so much. Season 5 basically teed up season 6 for what I was expecting to be the best season ever but completely missed with Aberamas death not being avenged and the billy boys just completely disappearing. Also arguably the most rushed season due to polly’s death. Don’t know why you put season 4 last over 6 when season 6 definitely had more plotholes/rush to it.

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +6

      It's all personal opinion really. First of though, Aberama was avenged as the IRA woman: Laura McKee actually orchestrated Polly, Barney and Aberama's deaths, not the Billy Boys. And for the Billy Boys, in real history, when season 6 takes places, the actual gang had fizzled out with regard to their prominence and work for fascists such as Mosley, so that is perhaps why the weren't in season 6... still would have loved to see Arthur go to-to-toe with Jimmy.
      As for my rankings...for me, season 6 had far superior key scenes than season 4, such as the ones mentioned in the video, as well as this, the season 6 finale imo once again, is greater than all the episodes in season 4. I do agree there were some unnecessary plot inconveniences such as Duke etc, but no plot holes or "plot-twist" moments that were as extreme or unnecessary as Polly's fake betrayal or Arthurs fake death. And finally, they salvaged a pretty decent plot after the unfortunate passing of Helen McCrory.

When ever I watch this show it takes me back to a time in my life when I first discovered it where weirdly without knowing it I was mirroring Thomas Shelby attitude before I ever watched the show. I was single and out to make as much money as I could. So when I rewatch it now, it takes me back to that small one room I was living in at the time (like season one) and I sit now in my big house (like later season) married with kids thinking "when did I get here?"

    Season 1 - fantastic first season for a tv show that does a great job of establishing the characters
    Season 2 - Masterpiece. New characters are great (Alfie!), Campbell is a very threatening antagonist, the character arcs progress. And the final episode is perfect and sets the stage well for season 3.
    Season 3 - it's... okay. Killing off Grace so soon was a poor move and plot feels all over the place with the Russians and Italians. There's some stuff that really irks me (the hamfisted connection between Michael and the priest, Tommy becoming stupid and losing his son). And the train getting destroyed has no major impact going forwards. Still some good moments from the supporting characters
    Season 4 - VERY good. Its a thrilling game of cat and mouse between Luca and Tommy, and the death of John sets the mafia up as a formidable force. The stuff with Jessie Eden doesn't really work, but that final scene with Tommy's returning trauma now that his battle is won is amazing.
    Season 5 - loved it. Constantly trying to gage Michael's motives and Tommy is falling apart, while Arthurs character arc hits its turbulent peak. The Billy Boys and Moseley are such loveably hateful opponents. Great to see how psychologically broken Tommy gets. And that cliffhanger!
    Season 6 - major disappointment to end the series on. The first and last episode was pretty good but everything in between was painfully poor. Michael spends the entire season in prison only to get shot in the last episode after an anti-climactic attempt to kill Tommy. Where are the Billy Boys? How does Arthur properly recover from his addiction? We don't need characters like Esme and Alfie to return again. The focus on Tommy is still good though (masterful, symbolic final scene)

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +7

      Great analysis mate! I don't think season 6 as a whole was disappointing, my biggest complaint would be the Michael plot line as you mentioned: but we can't be too mad as due to the result of Helen Mccrory's passing etc, they salvaged it the best they could.

    • @onemoreminute0543
      @onemoreminute0543 11 месяцев назад +9

      @@PowerHubShorts Yeah, I think Mccrorys passing is definitely the main reason why aspects of season 6 fell flat. It's very likely she would have had a push pull dynamic with Michael while he was in that cell and would have played a key role in getting Arthur off his addict.
      But for what it's worth, the final scene is still fantastic. Tommy is reborn - he started the show on a black horse and departs on a white horse. The wagon burning away with his old life inside it also emphasises this monumental growth which I can't wait to see further explored in the movie.

    I would rank it slightly different. I agree on season 2 being 1st place, and on season 1 being 4th place, but I switched some stuff up-
    1. Season 2
    2. Season 3: While Mosley was the only guy to have beaten Tommy, I would argue he wasn't really as intimidating as the priest was, until Tommy beat the priest. Mosley just was worse at always keeping Tommy on his toes, especially since he didn't antagonize Tommy from the 1st moment, unlike the priest.
    3. Season 5: Mosley is still a badass monster btw,
    4. Season 1
    5. Season 4: I didn't really enjoy Luca, but at least I was interested and constantly intrigued with where the vendetta would go, something I might not be able to say about some other season...
    6. Season 6: I feel like I didn't really care about this season. Main issue I had was I felt like I needed Tommy to continue against Mosley, and instead he just left. The only one moment I loved was (SPOILERS PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS NEXT LINE YOU HAVE BEEN WORNED THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING WHY ARE YOU STILL READING THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT YET WATCHED THIS SEASON PLEASE STOP READING THIS BECAUSE THE SPOILER COMES IN 3, 2, 1!) when we learned that Tommy wasn't really ill and that his doctor was lying to him.

      I don't know how season 4 can be bad, it's the best season of them all, Luca is a very threatening villain for Tommy, and all of the episodes are action-packed. How Luca went out was really a bit anti-climactic but that is basically the only weird thing about season 4.

  • @MsRouxe

    Good analysis! . Mine would be 6-S6 5-S5 4-S3 3-S4 2-S2 1-S1 Season 5 I really liked Mosley, Aberama and Polly, Ada, Arthur and Linds, and Grace coming back. The only thing I hated was Tommy and Lizzie. And it was interesting to see how Tommy had everything, but he was worse off emotionally. The only thing I put it in the 5th place was because of Lizzie lol.

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +4

      Thank you! Yeah, Tommy and Lizzie were definitely 'something' in season 5 lol. I liked it because it showed that Tommy was literally losing everything, he was facing betrayal from the outside, and possibly the inside (through Lizzie wanting a divorce etc).

    • @MsRouxe
      @MsRouxe 11 месяцев назад +7

      @@PowerHubShortsYeah, I liked the part about Tommy and his mind getting worse. But I didn't see how he cared much for Lizzie, since he was cheating on her and would rather take opium and see Grace than be with her. I never interpreted that he was in love with Lizzie in S5 and S6, and you? But apart from that toxic relationship, I loved everything else from S1 to S6, all the stories, characters, villains. I would have loved to see more Michael, Ada, Arthur, Finn in S6.

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +5

      @@MsRouxe Yeah, agreed. Tommy really only married Lizzie because he had a child with her, whom was conceived when Tommy was thinking about another woman (his pre-war girlfriend). In season 6, Tommy says that he regretted marrying Lizzie, and I think that he truthfully believes that... not only because he doesn't love her the same way as Grace, but also because of the tragedies with Ruby.

    • @MsRouxe
      @MsRouxe 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@PowerHubShorts Exactly, I think part of his redemption is realizing the damage he's done to people. Like marrying Lizzie when he doesn't love her and everything he put her through, manipulating Arthur, which is why he goes looking for Linda. And that's why all his past is left behind, and in the movie we're going to see him alone, I don't think he'll come back with Lizzie. Did you like the ending? I really liked seeing Tommy's 'funeral' and that the war finally ended on his head.

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +4

      @@MsRouxe Yeah I loved the ending tbh, it was as close as we will get to a 'redemption' I reckon; a spiritual death and redemption... especially considering the initial riding on a black horse in season 1 and leaving on a white horse in season 6. My only concern is what they are going to do for the movie, I can see Duke/Isiah etc becoming the proper new leader of the gang; if Tommy wants to leave his criminal life behind... or he could stay in politics and whole-fully try and do good for his country and people in fighting the fascists (we know the movie will take place during WW2).

    This is the one show I can’t rank my favourite seasons in. They all have their strengths and issues. Season 5 and 6 we’re probably just about the most boring for me personally, but both had really strong final episodes which kinda salvaged them
    Season 3 was a bit cliche with the Russians. I feel their should’ve been only 1 villain instead of going back and forth between the Russians and priest group. I actually agree about season 4 with you, the Italians being portrayed as very powerful when there only ended up a dozen of them was stupid. It makes no sense the peaky blinders would submit to these guys (12 Italians, most of which had died throughout the season but they seemed to respawn for the final episode) was even more stupid and the Al Capone reveal felt like a copout
    I think the writing for the 1st 2 seasons was the best and campbell was the best villain for me just before Mosley. Only thing I didn’t like was the fact the last scene of season 2 where one of campbells men saved tommy who worked for Churchill, didn’t seem realistic and was for dramatic effect. And then the whole Churchill storyline which should’ve been way more major and utilised took a backseat for the rest of the show sadly
    So if I HAD to rank based on the fact Season one didn’t have Michael who bored me to death in every scene, I’d go S1, S2, S4, S3, S5, S6

    You know at first I use to hate the fact that Michael wasn’t the main villain . Like I always tell people that is one of the biggest critic for s6 . Well that and the fact tommy didn’t kill Mosley or jack Nelson . But later on after rewatching the whole series I realized that Micheal doesn’t have what it takes to be a villain except he has some huge plot device which would have made a lot of people dislike the show . Like bro just look at every villain the show has ever had . Like jack Nelson was just introduced in s6 but the character was scary as fuck . Especially that scene with him and billy . The only other person I would have chosen to be a villain was that guy who tried to sell opium to Tommy and Arthur . He was kinda OP I’m not gonna lie . Like I also wanted Mosley and jack to die . But after rewatching s6 , I realized why tommy didn’t kill them . Apart from that s6 is probably my favorite. Nice video tho 🔥🔥🔥

    • @PowerHubShorts
      @PowerHubShorts  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you! Yeah, I agree, Michael didn't have what it takes to be a "real" threat, well, at least not how he had been written. Perhaps if we did indeed have the 7 seasons + movie that I mentioned, as well as Polly still being in the show, Michael could have become a decent threat... especially if Polly was almost an adviser to Michael, like Vito was to his son Michael in the Godfather part 1. I don't mind that Mosley didn't die tbh, I think he will get arrested in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie... in real life Mosley did get exiled from England due to his political party and movements, so I can see this being the way which he is 'defeated'. And for Jack, I can see him dying at the hands of Alfie, or fizzling out/going fully into politics.

    I seriously doubt anyone who has seen both breaking bad and peaky blinders would say peaky blinders has the best series ending for a tv show ever lol. Imo peaky blinders had the potential to have the best ever series ending for a tv show, but failed to deliver largely due to lack of closure. But then again, things were derailed with the death of Helen, so can't fault it too much based on circumstances. But breaking bad takes the cake imo

    I just started season 3.
    Episode 1 of three was almost unwatchable for me.
    I had to MAKE myself get through it, and I also had a hard time getting through episode 3 of 3.
    I'm worried if season 4 is the second to worst. I don't know if I'll be able to get through the series, if 3 is so dismal to me, and 4th is second to last.
    I REALLY ENJOYED season 2.
    I felt like Tommy should have identified her as a spy sooner. That was disappointing.
    But men are easily fooled by pretty girls...

      After seeing the whole of season 3, I have dramatically changed my mind about it, and you're right.
      It's one of the very best seasons.
      Jesus Christ.
      Blew my mind mind.
      The first one was rough, just because of the death and sentimentality.
      It was like when we lost Ruby.
      I can't handle death and sentimentality.
      That's all.

    Am I the only one who feels that Tommy not burning the caravan himself in the finale took away from the impact of the ending. If the caravan represents his past life then the fact that he didn’t burn it himself really lessens the moment.
    Can anyone justify the decision to have the other guy do it? Really want to like the ending but that detail really spoils it for me.

    Season 3 is the best, dc what anybody sais it is the best and funniest, every character had some screen time and more" lore" and constant plot twists.
