Haha just became a foster parent to a1.5 year old, she was all fussy and i put you on and said let's sit down and watch uncle Tim forge... not a peep out of her for 15 min. Great video brother, thank you for sharing.
Sundays with Tim is a great habit to pick up. Each time I think about being young and choosing smith work and not choosing a life of welder/fabricator/machinist it really makes me wonder.
Thank you, thank you, for doing some rusty damascus. I have been gifted some old saw blades, and this is a great application to add beauty to other projects with accent damascus steel.
That turned out amazing!!! It’ll be cool to see you give it a coffee bath for the chatoyant look it has with the amount of layers and the twist! Hope you and your family are doing well! Thank you so much for your service and everyone else that has been a hero for our freedom! Those who lost their lives for our country will never be forgotten! 🙏
Very cool. So much time spent cleaning steel to stop inclusions and delamination, and here we are with some beautiful wood grain Damascus from rusty steel...
I've been waiting to see this video and see the pattern on the steel. WOW! Just beautiful. Who would have ever thought you would be able to achieve that look out of a bunch of rusty steel. Really glad you did this experiment Tim. It should have taught a lot of people a lot about damascus that is contrary to everything they thought. Great work as usual. Thanks for bringing us along.
It's incredible to think that, almost two hundred years ago, smiths could produce something that beautiful. It makes me wonder how many "trade secrets" have been lost to time or simply being "common knowledge" in the trade and so were never written down.
Gosh Tim what a journey to make beautiful steel in the old ways! Such a very special man and more over friend and brother you are. Thank you for being you 🙏blessings abundant sirSir Crawford out 🧙♂️
Watching you make beautiful blanks for people doesn’t feel like a long video! Really nice work, it’s an absolute pleasure seeing your skills in action. Keep it up and stay safe.
I'm not a blacksmith or a knife maker but I think the pattern in that piece of steel makes me think it would be fun to learn both. I would also like to make some plane irons, chisels and some marking knives out of it. Great video man.
That was a great series on forging rusty Damascus steel. The 3,000 challenge was well worth it, it has to be the most beautiful pattern I have ever seen! Stay healthy and keep up the great work!
Well Tim, I must say that you did a great job on that Damascus steel there. I would have loved to have seen that turned into a knife blade. Great job sir!
That’s really fascinating! Kind of goes against a lot of things that people say these days. Loved the video, and the pattern looks awesome! Keep it up!
Liam truely does. I suspect the cast iron combines w the iron oxides in a molecular fashion that perhaps doesn't occur in a lower carbon higher alloyed steel cant. Very fascinating. Both in practice and in theory. Neat ole pattern too! Thanks to Big Dog for leading us down a rabbit trail some 200 yrs old. Awesome man in person as much ad on video 🙏blessed days sirSir Crawford out 🧙♂️
I know im asking randomly but does someone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my password. I love any assistance you can offer me!
Simply beautiful almost has a wood grain going, really interesting watching the process. I love what you do and have so much fun learning with you. I’m also a green beetle fan. Really enjoyed the collaboration. I end as always with thanks for letting me hang out in the shop. Best wishes to all and have a fantastic day 😀
That was an awesome video Tim. I've not seen cast iron powder used as a flux, great idea really. The billet turned out really nice. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome stuff, I've been powdering cast iron to use for this, I'm a amature maker with a love for damascus forging would love a shot at a blade from this
Would love to see the video of this being forged into a blade. If/when you send it off, please keep us informed as to where it goes so we can follow it. The pattern turned out incredible, great job on it!
Fun Video! Ok...now I got to try it.... Love the way you did the sandwiching in the end, I like good steel in the middle, altho I think I will run some hardness tests to see how the straight rusty damascus will work out....I still have a old "fake" damascus knife and the one thing I like about it, is it will take a edge fast, and makes a wonderful leather working / wood carving knife. Love these video's keep them coming!

I personally like the longer videos.
I could listen to you talk about this sort of thing for days, if I'm honest.
Thank you, thank you, for doing some rusty damascus. I have been gifted some old saw blades, and this is a great application to add beauty to other projects with accent damascus steel.

1.1k thumbs up, 0 thumbs down. This is a record from my viewing experiences, you should be proud. Wonderful video with lots of great info and insight.
Wow...love the natural feel to the pattern!
Thank you! 😊
Never would have guessed you would have gotten that pattern from so many layers, let alone what the layers were made of! Beautimous!
Was thinking the same thing. With so many layers you start losing the contrast. It starts to look like the edge of a book with a very fine grain.
After enough folding, it becomes counter intuitive. Look up damascus steels that are over 100,000 layers. They have some good patterns in them.
I haven't heard the word beautimous since I was a teen in the 90s. 😃
Very cool. So much time spent cleaning steel to stop inclusions and delamination, and here we are with some beautiful wood grain Damascus from rusty steel...
Well said!
