I struggled with Fear and Anxiety really bad my senior year of highschool. It broke me down mentally to a point of darkness… I felt stuck, but during that time I watched Batman Begins for the first time. And eventually the entire trilogy. The symbol of Batman taught me to turn my fears against themselves and make my fears FEAR ME. I embraced exposure therapy like Wayne in the cave with the bats. And I allowed myself to be okay with my fears and to keep pushing forward in life. In doing so I regained control of my mental health and adopted my inner warrior spirit. And ever since then I always look back to the symbol of the bat when hardships arise in life, and I unleash my inner Dark Knight. And I Endure….

Want a philosophical view of the BIg Three... In a simpler form??!!
Batman is every human, we suffer so much that we want to take justice in our own hands. We're completely Dark/Evil.
Superman is the standard or being we all want to be. He's too perfect not bc of his power but bc he has the ability to save the world. He's the Icon of icons. The good, that's why writers parallel him with Jesus.
Spider-Man is an adult of relatability. He defines it. He's the medium of Superman and Batman. As good as superman and human as batman. We all want to strive to do the right things even when it's hurting us in return.

I enjoy Batman when he is not written like Batgod or doing stuff that he has no business doing without powers, but he is not my favorite hero. I enjoyed reading Batman comics when they were written in the 1980s/early 1990s, mostly when Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle were working on the character. I tend to favor characters that are not as popular, like Vixen from DC Comics and Black Panther from Marvel Comics.

I used Anarchy in a way that meant to be in rejection of laws and order. Nihilism in a sense that joker also avoids a value structure and mocks others for having one. Usually he is the symbol of hope in pretty much all media when it comes to batman, but with arkham games, it feels way more different than anything i've ever watched. Definitely recommend playing them ASAP, especially after making this video.

The video's great and I widely agree Batman's trauma turned him into the unstoppable force for good, however what you say about Dick in Injustice doesn't sit with me. In Injustice, he doesn't see the killing of Dick as a blameless crime; he doesn't blame Superman, he blames Damian, making it a much more difficult moment for Bruce. That was the final straw in their relationship, it shows how he channels his anger into something right, he blames Damian and judges Clark and that's what allows him to win, his control. Injustice is about breaking points, Superman gets broke and goes on a killing spree whereas any time batman goes into tough times he shows restraint. Anyway great video and I really enjoy videos that convey peoples opinions and adds more to the moral victories of the characters

Thanks a lot! You’re definitely right about it being more about Damian and Bruce. I think before I thought because Clark was clearing Arkum Asylum they would’ve never gotten in that tragedy to begin with. But it was definitely was more about Bruce and Damian. I appreciate you pointing that out man.

Batman has that Count of Monte Christo and Zorro touch. Despite great fortune he uses the advantages he has to help, not to jet set and live the spoiled life. If more millionaires were like Bruce Wayne, the poor would be encouraged towards incentive to achieve as opposed to leeching off of society. Batman has a sense of trying to heal his city instead of rotting it out.
Favorite point: In DC folklore, more people live in Gotham than Metropolis as the criminal element is [slightly] more under control there as opposed to the dangers of monsters and aliens invading Metropolis. Superman spends his time defending--and destroying his city where Gotham remains marginally safer and reasonably unscathed.

Thanks for commenting :) I believe on your point about Bruce Wayne is right and even if we aren’t all millionaires we have privileges greater than others that we can use to help. I am hopeful that no matter what position we have, we do the best to help others no matter how small it is it’s still positive. Thanks again for reaching out!

This is some interesting stuff, but I think there's more layers beneath these. Batman the stoic paragon of virtue and justice is just one aspect, but Batman the enforcer of stability in an unjust status quo is just as valid a look at the character. A single episode of Batman: The Animated Series, called Heart of Ice, presents both these aspects at once. While Batman is able to save innocent people from Mr. Freeze, he has no power to hold Ferris Boyle responsible for the death of Freeze's wife, Nora. For all his heroics, Batman can only protect the world from criminals. Meanwhile, captains of industry like Ferris Boyle walk away after committing murder. Batman doesn't have to like it to be complicit. Protecting Gotham from the people who harm it also means shielding it from accountability for the people who rule it, who can commit atrocities so long as they don't commit crimes.
Batman is such an interesting character because he's such a collection of contradictions. For everything you define him as, he's been the opposite as well. That's what makes him so endlessly rich. A character that is a contradiction never finishes telling his story. This is why Batman endures. He's a criminal who fights on the side of law and order, a hero who dresses like a villain, a rich man who's lost everything that truly matters, an ordinary man who's made himself a superhuman through sheer dint of will, a supernatural figure with no supernatural power, a man who's a monster, an orphan who surrounds himself with found family, etc. The list of contradictions goes on and on. Even his no kill rule exists in paradox. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not, depending on the point the story wants to make. The end of the Dark Knight is a paradox. Does Batman save Jim Gordon's son, or murder Harvey Dent? Can he be both a murderer and not a murderer? Could it be said that, by making it a choice between the boy's life and his own, Harvey killed himself? Ultimately, inaction would have led to the boy's death, so would doing nothing have been murder too? The Dark Knight operates on these complex game theory problems, as mathematical as they are moral.
When people discover these comic characters that have been around so long and been written by so many hands, they find a version they love, and define the character as that version. But that's just the entry point. Batman emerges out of innumerable comics, movies, animated series, and games, each being a unique take with its own point to make. The trick to enjoying the character in an enduring way is not to piece together a single, consistent version that you like and discard what you don't, but appreciate the variety in the character's depictions, even when they contradict what you love about the character. Batman is all the things you point out, but there's way more to him on top of it as well. Welcome to the wonderful, ever-unfolding world of Batman.

Wow! :) you’ve really enlightened me on a new perspective of Batman. I genuinely really appreciate your output! I’ve never really considered that Batman is a complete paradoxal mystery even down to his integrities and ideals. I’ll have to think about it for a while too. I have not found a real way to describe it but in the end even if Batman sounds hypocritical or contradictory, his actions and decisions will grow to have at least some truth or right in them. I wouldn’t quite yet put my full stance on it but what I can say is this really opened my eye. Thanks again :)

@@reitec6 Thank you for making such a great, thought-provoking video! I have to admit, I haven't played through Injustice, but I understand it was a huge deal. To be honest, I find that DC tends to upend their characters' status quo just to be edgy a little too often. How many times does Superman really have to go bad? How many times does Flash have to led a psychopath kill his mom, or a Robin brutally murdered, or Gotham get leveled, before it becomes the tiresome routine? So I was never all that interested. But I'm now hearing that it made a major impact, so I may check it out.
Regardless, I think you made a brilliant point about stakes at the beginning of the video here. When stakes get inflated to a billion, then a hundred billion, you can smell the writers' desperation. It doesn't matter if the whole world is at stake if it's a weightless world. In The Dark Knight, what was at stake was entirely believable. The city wasn't going to get leveled or flooded, time wasn't going to go in reverse, Darkseid wasn't coming. What was at stake was the soul of its populace, in a very real way that real people lose their souls in the real world, when they're so afraid of losing their stability that they turn into monsters. That's some legit superhero stuff.
Anyhoo, I reckon I won't be the first to recommend Batman: The Animated Series, then Superman: The Animated Series, and finally, The Justice League. That latter one clearly inspired Injustice and its two Batmen. This again is what I love about Batman. If Batman were to meet the anti-version of himself from another timeline, the two would be so similar that the one could probably talk the other around to being a good guy again.
This is another great aspect of the character, that he straddles the line between hero and anti-hero. That was what "The Batman" was all about, Batman standing on the razor's edge between doing it to help and doing it to punish. One side is heroic, the other, not so much. But because Batman always straddles that line, the anti-Batman would be just on the other side of it, never so far that he couldn't be coaxed back. At least, that's one man's opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of edgelord writers who'd argue.

Hey thanks a lot! I’m not the most familiar with too much Batman but I believe that the best batman villains are the ones that challenge and overpower him the most in one or more ways. Whether it be by strength, intelligence, or to challenge his integrity. But it’s by Batman’s perseverance that makes it so inspiring to overcome and sometimes beat the villains at their own game of strength, intelligence or mental fortitude.
There’s a guy called The Closer Look who does way better breakdowns of Batman than me in the perspective of writing. He’s definitely been a lot of inspiration for this video so I would give him a recommendation.

I've seen the best of Batman and the worst of Batman. I've seen him as a relatable character and a whiny rich boy, as dark and campy, as mature and childish, as the best humankind can achieve and as a ridiculous power fantasy.
Batman can and has been a great character but also can and has been the worst crap you've seen. When you have a character that have been published without a pause for over 80 years you obviously have a lot of material to choose the good and ignore the bad.

    • @reitec6
      @reitec6  Год назад

Thanks for commenting :) I guess that’s what happens with astonishingly good franchises. A lot of writers want to put their spin on the character and the one’s that put their due diligence and respect usually will make the character better. Then when we hold that higher standard, a different writer can completely flop and disappoint the audience. I think that’s also what’s happening with a lot of new adaptations from disney, to marvel, to DC to Lord of the Rings, to Dune etc. I guess we can just hope and put expectations on the people who make new depictions to have the best intentions and efforts. Thanks for pointing that out :)

About his integrity, remember that with his wealth and connections, he could very easily dominate the criminal world of Gotham. Possibly even internationally given his skills and knowledge. He sees for himself, frequently, what he could take for himself if he gave in to that temptation. And could even very easily justify it to himself as a means to an end to better Gotham and the world in the way he wants. He never falls to it, though, and maintains his integrity.

Hey thanks for your comment! You make an interesting point about why many people prefer a batman without other superheroes with powers. I guess the reason why people like Christopher Nolan’s Batman and the new one is because it is grounded in realism and relatability. Maybe that’s also why people didn’t like the zack snyder because that had some unrealistic ideas (I dunno to be honest I didn’t watch it because of reception haha). I wouldn’t have much approval of many of those depictions of Batman as I’m not the best to consult with batman stuff. But the if the Batman v Superman idea can be intriguing if done right because maybe it tells us that even if we become wise and persevere enough we can have the potential to topple gods.
