Saw this live last night, with Emperor X and AJJ. Truly an out-of-body experience, my skeleton felt like it was going to tear itself out of my skin and I could feel my organs vibrating from the absolute intensity and volume.
The instrumental gets fun and catchy if you listen to it enough, great track all around

I'm not very familiar with Xiu Xiu's stuff but I'm absolutely in love with this. The lyrical performance reminds me of David Byrne at times and the instrumental is pretty damn catchy for such an experimental track
You should definitely delve into some of their past albums, like Angel Guts Red Classroom if you like this freaky/experimental sound, or Forget if you wanna see a more melodic/pop-oriented sound from them. A very unique and talented group to say the least 😊
Personally I haven't heard much from Byrne apart from his vocals in Remain in Light, but it seems like an acurate comparison. It also reminded me of Trout Mask Replica and Bowie's Blackstar.

@@guyonagravitronmachinestan7595 That's pretty appealing. :) I don't consider myself to be an expert of either art-pop or experimental music, but some of my favorite artists and albums do fall under one of both genres. Finding similitudes between music I like and this album has piqued my interest for the rest of Xiu Xiu's discography, so I'll be sure to explore their oeuvre in the future.
Zenene1507 definitely do! There's a lot of great experimental groups/artists in art-pop and hip-hop. Clipping, Sophie, Sleep Party People, Death Grips, St. Vincent, Poppy, and Grimes are all very interesting picks. And then of course Xiu Xiu has a vast discography full of great stuff. They even did a whole soundtrack cover of Twin Peaks!

The first time I heard this album, it was the second song I first heard. It reminded me of the first time I saw Kenneth Anger’s “Invocation of my Demon Brother” and immediately stops listening because I knew I had to be in the right head space for this album. It was The impeachment trial acquittal of the Grinch that got me primed to hear this recording.

I love Xiu Xiu so much, they came to Argentina in 2017, it was amazing
Also this album is beautiful
One of 2019’s best albums. Their last record wasn’t really the pop return it was advertised as, but (for me) felt like the B-Sides compilation to “Always” ... minus ‘Wondering’, that’s a fabulous track.
THIS however. Holy fuck. Abrasive, anxious, disturbing and a sound collage unlike anything else this year. Jamie and company are constantly pushing boundaries and expectations. Lovely.

This is one HELL of an album starter. It pulls you in with such a deranged instrumental, and the lyrics are so sickening but he yells things like “STOP LAUGHING” to keep you from drifting away from his words. You are stuck listening to these dark yet eye opening lyrics. I think they are about a girl and her traumas with being graped, along with demons surrounding her, but I am not exactly sure on it.
