  • Make some sparkling festive or year round decorations by covering/upcycling a glass ornament with polymer clay and metallic leaf. In this easy to follow, step by step tutorial, I show how to add the metallic leaf then decorate using easy petal and leaf canes. So, sit back, relax, watch, and then have fun making some of your own.

    The Silver/Gold/Bronze metallic leaf is widely available from good craft stores and online suppliers.
    In the UK, you can currently get multi coloured packs of the coloured metallic leaf from Amazon and some single colours on eBay, so have a search around to find other options too. Search under ‘coloured metallic leaf’.
    The crystals can be found in craft stores or online - search under ‘pointed back crystals’ to find them. I use 4mm ones.
    The semi sphere bowls/molds I use to bake in, can be found in cook shops and online stores. They come in a variety of sizes.
    If you like my work, then please do have a look at my website, www.fionaabel-s... and follow me on Facebook / fiona.abelsmith and Instagram. / fionaabelsmith.artist
    I also have a number of Polymer Clay Tutorials to buy, both in my Etsy shop, PolyOriginals - www.etsy.com/u... where I have more tutorials in a PDF format, and as a video tutorial here - polyoriginals.t...

    I would like to thank you for giving me the tutorial for my Christmas gifts this year. I have a box of clear glass ornaments that I had not figured out what to do with. Now I know. I want to save some money, as this has been an expensive year for us, and these will do perfectly. I love your tutorials, not just because they are easy to understand. I love them because everytime I watch them I am able to do the technique without trouble. Thank you so very much. You have no idea what great things your tutorials do for me and others like me.

    Fiona, you have outdone yourself with this one! These are the prettiest Polymer Clay decorated Christmas ornaments I have ever seen! Thank you for the tutorial!! For the chatons, you can use Poly Bonder to make sure they stay put long-term. It's an instant super glue type product that can glue raw polymer clay to non-porous items such as glass and metal. Good up to 300 degrees F/149 degrees C for baking the clay and holds securely.

    • @Soifdesang9
      @Soifdesang9 2 года назад +1

      @@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals Thank you! Yes, just pushing chatons or any stones in w/o glue is iffy at best for durability unless you have clay over the edges or glue them. You also can just make the dents for the stones with a like sized tool and glue them in after baking instead too.

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  2 года назад

      @@Soifdesang9 Yes both of those techniques are great :) With these, because the little ball of clay is relatively thick, you do get that slight overlap of the clay which holds them in, or if not, as you so rightly say, just glue them in afterwards, I have used these methods in previous videos where I use the Chatons - I just love the sparkle that they give in polymer clay projects :)

    My machine goes 1-6 how should I condition my clay?

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  2 года назад +1

      I would suggest using a medium thick setting, try experimenting with small amounts of clay and see if there is a certain setting on your machine that works well. I do not know if setting 2 or 5 is thicker on your machine, but try with the second thickest setting, then the third. The main thing is for you to cut your clay into nice thin strips, so that whichever setting you choose you do not put too much stress on the pasta machine. I hope that helps :) I take it you have watched my conditioning polymer clay tutorial that is linked in the information below this video? :)
