  • The first stop on Johnny's Final Tour was the Grand West Arena in Cape Town. His first announced concert was July 1, 2017.
Surprise guests were Sipho Mchunu (his Juluka partner from the early days), his son Jesse (with whom this was the FIRST time for the two of them to play together). Mandisa Dlanga was there too (she had opted out of the last tour). There was fantastic dancing, and great visuals.
The 5000 seat arena was filled, with dancing in the aisles and the front finally overwhelming the ushers. There are brief glimpses of some of the astounding variety of performance along with a couple of complete songs.
    Enjoy!

I went to his last show ever. It was one of the best experiences ever. So blessed to see him in my home city. I really hope there'll be more artists like him in the future. He makes me proud to be South African.

How sad I am he passed away ! You just cannot imagine ! I saw Johnny Clegg on stage many years ago in France ( I am French and I live in France) It was awesome ! He was a great and wise man and sometimes I think he was sent on the earth by God ! There is no difference between black and white, we are all brothers and sisters. To stupid racists I always say :" You are jealous because black is BEAUTIFUL and you aren't ! May he rest in peace; We will never forget him. Marie in France ! Sorry for my bad English !

It is so wonderful seeing Johnny and Sipho on stage together, bringing everything full circle. Seeing Johnny and Jesse together brings me such joy. Jesse even squeezes his eyes shut at times when he's singing, just like his dad. It also makes me smile to see Mandisa on stage again with Johnny, where she has been so often for so many years. Unfortunately, there are also empty places on stage which should've been filled by Dudu Mntowaziwayo Ndlovu (Dudu Zulu) and Bongani Masuku, who were both tragically taken from us much too soon.
I am sad for us here, having to live in a world without you. Sing and dance again with Dudu and Bongani. Stand hand in hand with Madiba. You will never be forgotten! Much love and heartfelt condolences to Johnny's family and friends from a 30+ year fan from Florida, USA. Now, if we can get Jesse to write a new, final verse of Asimbonanga, for his father... It would be so fitting, as we shall never see him again in this world. HambaKahle, Johnny Clegg!

@@jethrodube5726, no need to thank me. Thank YOU for replying to my comment. And yes, Impi is one from the early days ('81?), from Juluka. It was on their second(?) album, if I'm not mistaken. There's a live version, here on RUclips, which I have bookmarked. Johnny looks SO young in the video. I guess I was pretty young back then as well. Well, at least I was young. I don't think I was ever "pretty." 😁

Thank you Samantha! We were trying to find the name of the name of the song. Johnny had said (earlier in the program) that Jesse had said that he would never take the stage with Johnny. As I said, these concerts are the first time the two of them are on stage together!
A little bit more about the concert (and the video). We had seats in the seventh row (a gift, along with plane fare, from our three sons!!!!). You can see some people moving out of seats to dance, but until the end the ushers kept us on the sidelines. There were finally too many of us for them to stop, so we could go right up front.l Some people were taking videos with a cellphone, but I had a small Sony Handycam. The usher would only let me take a little bit of video when we were up front, but I didn't have a problem taking it from my seat -- except that the battery was running out!
This video is ALL of what I took except for about five seconds that I trimmed out! The program (like all of his) ended with an encore that ended with "Dela" (battery died then!). I thought that it was fitting to end the video with Johnny and Jesse singing together.

I had the extraordinary pleasure of seeing him live last night at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd see this very special human being, whose music pulled me through the hardest years of my life in the 90's. But I did, and he was so very much more than I had ever imagined. You can count him among the forces that brought down Apartheid, that promoted compassion, tolerance and love in most of the world. Do yourself a favor, download Kilimanjaro, Asimbonanga, and the imcomparable Dela onto your smart phones. The audience was dancing in the aisles.

Thanks for the post, Freyda. My wife, son, and his girlfriend went to Keswick too! What a great show. We've seen him at Keswick three or four times, and loved how we could dance there! Too bad it was a "No Device Show". Our son is the one (and his brothers) who gave us the tickets and plane fare to Cape Town!

Johnny Clegg is simply amazing; be it as international musical statesman, White Zulu, Honorary PhD at University of KwaZulu-Natal South Africa, or simply Good Guy, the man has singlehandedly brought down global treasure troves of compassion, dignity and mutual empathy across seemingly impossible wastelands of intolerance.
He has lifted us into the 21st century and beyond. With men like Johnny Clegg (and album testimonies to true civilization like "Heat, Dust and Dreams" and "Cruel, Crazy, Beautiful World",) I can stand tall and say, I'm proud to be human.
    Thanks Johnny Clegg and Savuka,
May the One Above continue to watch over you and allow you increasing success and peace.

I missed the final tour, but I have such great memories of seeing him live several times. Being I'm an American, I don't understand a lot of the words. But the music so strong and he is a great story teller when I have seen him perform. He always explains a lot and I have learned many of the songs word per word. The last show I saw him at was at the House of Blues in LA in 2010. I was having a blast dancing and singing during the show. People asked me if I was from S. Africa because I loved the show so much. He's music means so much to me and I know it has changed peoples live. Bless him

I came to Africa alone in the 1960s my motivation a history teacher who was passionate about Zulu culture and a family history of service in Africa in British Army . Only South Africa could have given the world this genius, this cultural prophet and global gift to the rest of us!
Springsteen and Sting are as close as we got, but they're souless and don't speak for their parish, let alone their continent.
Clegg had the lot and did more to bring down Apartheid than did Tambo etc..Clegg changed hearts, not mere minds. And with a smile and choreography.

What a travesty! 20 seconds of one song then jump cut into the middle of another. If you suffer from epilepsy or are taking hallucinogenic drugs please don´t upload to youtube. Watch the concert from the Zenith in Paris for a full appreciation of the legend that is Johnny Clegg.

Birder, I must first congratulate you for appreciating the legend that is Johnny Clegg. Even more so, I am astounded to see that you, surely weary from your travels to the furthest corners of the internet, decided to settle upon this branch and let us see you, the Great Douche, a species rarer than any booby ever witnessed. Thank you!

It is not goodbye. "Across this distance, this divide, I will be with you forever. Until you reach the other side, I say hold on, sing this life song". (Extracts from Spirit is the Journey). ❤️❤️❤️
