- Academy Award-winning actors Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone are teaming up for the new historical drama, "The Favourite." The movie is set in the 18th century when Queen Anne ruled England. It tells the story of the rivalry between Lady Sarah Churchill and Abigail Masham as they fight for the queen's affection. Weisz and Stone join "CBS This Morning" to discuss what drew them to the roles and why their characters' battle for the queen's attention has much larger implications.

Rachel is just like fine wine, age is starting to show but she looks stunning af
ikr?? lmao she's even more beautiful. I've been looking at her for years but it's only now that I'm developing a crush on her lol
Mean girls? Oooof. It’s so much more elegant, layered, and complex. Thank you Rachel for your correction. This is NOT about just a rivalry, this is about social survival, a country at war, and how deep sorrow can unravel your entire life.
That's why they use high stakes
Just because Mean Girls was more mainstream and had a contemporary script and slapstick jokes doesn’t mean it wasn’t awesome. I think what she meant by relating it with Mean Girls was the desires, motivations, and emotions of the characters.
Angelo U I’m a writer, of course I understand all of that. The point is- why compare it to anything?! It’s sloppy journalism. There are hundreds of stories with similar log lines; person competes for the affection/favoritism of ring leader. This film deserves to use its own feet.
Well, as a journalist comparisons are drawn to make it easier for the public to understand an idea or concept easier. You were right that there are a lot of other stories out there which draw out the same emotions and reactions using female dynamics and relationships. The reporter probably used Mean Girls because she thinks the audience would immediately understand that she’s referring to the kind of relationships formed and ideas explored in the movie, things like competition, jealousy, self esteem etc. It’s not sloppy. You’re just being a film hipster or elitist, downplaying Tina Fey’s writing just because it’s mainstream.
Angelo U No, not “downplaying” Mean Girls, simply staying that IN MY OPINION it’s a silly, sloppy comparison. Go actually see the film and allow others to voice their own opinions. Agree to disagree, albeit I don’t revert to name calling. Be well!
My love for Rachel for the past 18 years remains strong. This woman is a true lady and goddess. My teenage crush then, now and 4ever.
Me too.. I know her from the mummy franchise (thank god she let go her role on 3rd movies 😅). It seems that she doesnt aged at all.. 😍
Are you a man or a woman? I am a woman and I also have a strong crush on her :)
😊
@@harleyquiinnnn I am a dude and I can't blame you for also crushing on her. It's also interesting you say that cuz she also played a lesbian role in a movie called 'disobedience' a couple of years back which she was great in. Check it out if you haven't watched it yet.
@@ovig8917 thanks for the recommendation, i've heard of it. i also saw a clip of her saying she read 'a lot of queer literature' and wanted to play in a film with two women. whatever she meant by it. sounded like she wanted to be in a lesbian film haha 😅
i love how rachel enunciates every word clearly
Rachel Weisz is a magical creature!
Rachel wearing a dress with bunnies on it... how appropriate
oh i didn't even notice!
D’you think that was planned? :)
I feel like Rachel hated that "Mean girls" comparison
yeh and then they have the cheek to quote it... as if she were the one to bring it up..when in fact she was trying to correct that statement. just shows how the media can twist things by quoting ppl out of context.
@@roro-mm7cc Media is excruciatingly annoying. Sometimes I just feel they don't even care about the project, they just want people to up their ratings.
Rachel Weisz will always be one stunner of a woman. She’s gorgeous. Emma Stone is forever a fav. Love these two 😍😍 I can’t wait to watch this movie.
Rachel Weisz always stunning..
amen Rachel is talented breathtaking beautiful and so down to earth
I don't see that
She's okay but not stunning , My Opinion :)
@Fuzzy Mcbabyhead i think you don't know nothing about Rachel..She hates aesthetic procedures ..she no have any plastic sugery just she had a baby ..She have a beauty natural and still stunning ..Rachel Weisz is the most beautiful woman that i have ever seen..
I can't stop staring at Emma's face. her skin is so flawless
I've had a crush on Rachel Weisz since 'The mummy' and she is just as gorgeous now 😍
Rachel was so good in this damn movie
The knowing look they give each other after mentioning the slapping! 😃
Rachel Weisz is all perfection and also has that accents and I feel I could die 😭😭😭
Both women are great actresses
Comparing this to MEAN GIRLS....WHAT....
Craig Lomax I KNOW! This one is so much better
Rachel Weisz, I adore her !
Rachel weisz such underrated actress
I find it hilarious come to think, of it that a Greek director made a film about 3 women in power, while as a Greek woman all I have ever witnessed in my life here thus far at least, is that Greek men have as a sole purpose in their life to strip away any kind of power from women all together , while knowing full well that women outsmart them in every way and aspect of their life. If nothing else Lanthimos deserves an Oscar for not being like the Greek males I have lived my life with. Men I like to call the Greek Talibans. It may sound harsh but if you knew what women go through emotionally here in Greece, if they want to remain honest toward themselves and to toward men, you'd think otherwise, believe me. Huge congrats to Lanthimos for making Greece and Greeks and cinema lovers proud and I am still afraid to watch Dogtooth but I will...promise.
Greece isn't the only country filled with ideals such similiar to what you say. There are countless countries, religions that have similar values. There are many women in many society who go through far worse with the idea that it is okay to be treated like that, it their destiny to be treated like that.
South Italy the same story.
They gave Stone Birdman, La La Land and The Help and gave Weisz The Mummy franchaise LOL!
Joe Coe Weisz is very proud of the mummy so it’s not an insult.
@@Nazaba09 It should.
You` re so right. F...ing Hollywood is ruled by mediocrity. I suppose Rachel is just high above it. Oh, wait! You were talking abt
introduction...
Joe Coe but they both nailed it! And played their characters well. Without Weisz, The Mummy 3 seemed additionally lackluster..
Oscars suck these days. It's just a trophy
damn Emma's smile never fails to brighten my day i love her
Somebody should make a MEME out of 1:19
Emma's face at 1:21 was so funny LOLLL
And 4:34
Emma Stone is too perfect for this world 😍😍😍
Not as perfect as Rachel Weisz and Cate Blanchett.
@@Flixilotte They're also pefrect ❤
Two of the most gorgeous women on this planet. As well as wonderful actors. 😍😍😍
Keith Jones they are both adorably charming in their own ways! 😍
Definitely attractive, but gorgeous?
In terms of acting, Rachel is certainly more skilled, Emma tends to play variations of the same character.
h d I find Rachel able to mould into whatever role she plays like a chameleon & reach a certain depth of emotion & convincing portrayal. True abt Emma playing different variations of the same character- quite a number abt a young woman’s coming-of-age early struggles of gaining footing in whatever field/endeavour or teenager roles in the past.. Emma’s personality remains the same throughout most of the movies.. But her personality is very likeable & striking therefore she stands out for being that.. she makes every role she takes seem like cool, attractive because of that a-dork-able likeable & strong enduring quality. Rachel owns any role & she makes it emotionally accessible, vulnerable, very convincing of human frailty, endearing in a soulful way.. can’t really describe it..
What planet are you from??
Yes. Both need to work with Cate Blanchett.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer is my favourite of Yorgos' films, looking forward to this release.
Emma is so pretty!
Yes but not as smart and beautiful as Rachel.
H. Bongers whats wrong with you
Fatih Amalia Nasution whats wrong with U?
Gorgeous film. Emma is stunning in the costumes as always and her acting was superb. All the cast did really well.
Dang so many spoilers
I've learned to watch the movie first, before any interviews or criticisms.
Can't wait to see this movie, these two actresses are as talented as they are beautiful.
Rachel Weisz
post pregnancy Rachel Weisz looks a lot like Brook Shields :)
Can’t wait to see it. 2 smart ladies. Both have played gay before & well. Simply great actors who don’t hold back.

Rachel Weisz 😍❤️
Oh just let Rachel Weisz run England already! Ok, maybe not right away, but after the present Queen
Saw this film last month at the San Diego film festival month and Gayle is SO right-‘mean girls’ in court. LOL such a great film. Hope everyone sees it.
The people of Masham would be shocked at the hosts pronunciation of their village 😂
Best Rachel and best Emma in a movie..... Lathimos is a genius.
Rachel Looks Great ,Loved her in the movie #Agora
Did Rachel spoil the movie at 2:20
not really because it's history, obviously if you already know
its fking history
For some people, yes. But if you go in knowing the plot is basically two characters struggling for influence over the queen, and Rachel's character begins on top, you know it's unlikely she remains there.
The queen is still the queen, and Emma's character is really just a dalliance, as was Rachel's, and to quote Aretha Franklin, Who's zoomin' who?
totally....
I thought the "mean girls" thing when corrected by Rachel didn't sit well with Gayle just a bit.. just my observation :)
"3 women here, Favourite right here." hahaha
2 beautiful, funny, intelligent women
I love Emma!! She's the best!!
3:43 WAIT I just watched this again - the EYEBROW RAISE. How did I not notice this before?
Harley Quinn who did it? 😅
Live long and prosper, emma 🖖🏻
Love EMMA A LOT
I love Emma's dress
glad i read the comment section. there are many spoilers in this video it seems.
1:18 Let There Be Light!
3:46!
I like how Weisz's character had a masculine looking suit while shooting guns did women commonly wear those too back then? Also how common/acceptable were gay people back in that time? Im just really curious Lol
No, the pants were added to help differentiate the character. There's an interview where the director says it. Also gay ppl probably wouldn't be very accepted. Even though it happened like crazy, especially in the high courts, it was kept under wraps
Emma!!! You natural beauty!!! ♡♡♡♡♡
When did Emma join STAR FLEET??
I ... I can not look at Rachel weisz the same as when I first met her in the Mummy movie and sooo on ... Ever since the movie disobedience movie and also Rachel Mcadams of course . Both beautiful talented woman ..... But like ... my lord .
Why?
@@marias7599 The movie Disobedience.
Not saying I won't watch them still both .
Just I will always think of that movie, and there scene.
@@elizabethrose8869
I understand. I will watch that movie, haven't seen it.
@@marias7599 .. hope your ready for it lol .
It's not a bad movie .

I'm gay so....😊😝
I am mad at you. but I still feel warm in my heart when I see you
Well, trailer looked good...then BAM... spoilers everywhere. Thanks Rach and Gayle!
I like the 2 actresses,no problem
These types of things must get so tedious.
Thank you for all the spoilers.
rachel love ya
♥️♥️
Rachel in the bunny dress lol
Hard to believe Rachel W is a mother of two. Look at the stunning beautiful😚! She is turning hotter and hotter every year😲😍.
Emma Stones outfit makes me think she's going to be in Star Trek soon?
CBS This Morning got off on the wrong foot with that shallow comparison. The Favourite is rich and powerful and deep and beautiful, qualities that other film completely lacks, with 18th century England's governance at stake. Performances and costumes and sets and music that send this film into a rarefied atmosphere of cinematic art and true greatness.
I would enjoy a 🍔 and 🍟 and 🍺 with these ladies.
Does Emma speak british in this film?
Yes
No. There is no such thing as a British accent. If you mean RP then yes.
Thank you for my rights Miss Rachel Weisz
Why are we still talking about corsets?
1:21 Beautiful
Emma stone the best 😍😍
gost max what about Rachel?
Oh! To be an Oscar winning actress and to be reminded of the mummy movies at every interview 😐
👌
Aw new Star Trtek must be good.
dont u ever blonde again emma XD this one looks gorgeous
Hansen Weh red is superior
Oprah's ...favorite "courtier" discusses a movie about Queen Ann's ...favorite "courtier" and no one sees the irony?
Just a bit of trivia queen Anne had 17 children and not one survived no wonder she turned to women in her later life.
WTF is a body organ?
They look like sisters
Is it just me or this interview was really awkward? I was cringing since the Mean Girls comment
The questions are so dumb... come on... they not watched the film. Why they asking about clothes?
And then to quote the mean girls thing.. as if Rachel were the one to bring it up when it was just her trying to politely correct the interviewers dumb statement. Just shows how the media twists facts by quoting out of context.
I got the funds back
Gayle King's declamatory presenting style is alarming to say the least. She certainly takes no prisoners inflection or puncuation-wise.
Wait but was she running England??? XD
I plea the fifth
This film is very well acted and directed. I don't enjoy seeing people being cruel to each other, so this movie was a turn off for me even though I watched it until the very end. Have a hard time seeing the humor in all the cruelty and abuse.
It all serves the purpose of critique. I found it a very current movie, in fact. It exposes sarcastically what the government is,and always has been, just an individual struggle for power. Just take a look at the politics around the world right now.
Also, I loved the rawness of the movie. I thought it made for a very powerful storytelling. I'd love to hear some of your thoughts about it!
Rachel weisz is look more beautiful when she grows old
that's the last time you see rachel probably includes england
