I know Im asking randomly but does someone know a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the account password. I would love any help you can give me!
@Zayne Grey Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
I think your statement could use some fixing. Here, let me. "Sword for Truth" is to "Ninja Scroll" as "The Matrix" is to "Dark City". ......you know, becuase Dark City is actually good and The Matrix is a shitty rip off of it.
I actually have the 1996 live action version of this story, legend of the Devil. If you want to know why everyone is after the sword, it the key to a a lot of hidden gold.
Dear Brother and BlackJack are two of his very best, though, so that does balance things out somewhat. I also think Moby Dick has some great elements, Snow Queen could be great if it wasn't so stretched out, and Genji is lovely but seems ridiculously low budget considering... (Oh and Aim for the Ace Final Stage ended in 1990, so I'll add that too.)
People can shit on this as much as they'd like. For some reason it will always have a special place for me. I bought it at the same time that I bought Ninja Scroll from a Sunset Video on VHS back in the day. While Ninja Scroll is superior in every conceivable way; there's still something objectively special about it. I was twenty years old at the time; and since then have watched it countless times. Out of everything though; it's always been the strange choice of music that brings me back.
I'm a big Osamu Dezaki nerd, and really appreciated this video. As you say in the introduction, I actually find it fascinating to check out lesser, or in this case BAD, works by my fave directors (and writers, and composers, etc, etc). With Dezaki it's always especially interesting because, while he's one of the first anime directors I would call an auteur of sorts, unlike later such directors like Oshii, or Takahata, etc, he remained until the bitter end a "for-hire" director. Sure, there were a few projects he instigated later in his career, like the Tale of Genji and Hakugei Densetsu TV animes--both which were plagued with production issues--but, despite his fame, that never became the norm. Still, you genuinely do have a sense when he's passionate about a work and when he's not. As you say, he followed this with Dear Brother which, against several odds in terms of budget and production, is one of his masterpieces. Similarly, his series of OVAs for his (older, not younger) brother's Magic Bus studio from this era, including this, are mostly all pretty bad--there feels little interest in the material, and the budget is obviously low. And yet one of them, the 4 episode OVA Kasei Yakyoku, which was actually based on a josei manga, has some of Dezaki's best work. It feels rushed--a long manga series in four episodes--and the budget is still cheap despite beautiful art--with some similar aesthetics to Dear Brother it still has far cheaper animation, for example. But the shoujo melodrama elements of josei, combined with the added elements of violence, sex and nudity, seem to have been compelling enough for Dezaki to rise above those production issues. In fact, I wish it was better known (when Dezaki passed away, out of all the tribute articles and videos I didn't see one mention of it--but then again his shoujo works in general, aside from his back half of Rose of Versailles, were largely ignored despite being among his best). It's compelling and distinctive (because it's so rare in anime--albeit not in manga) mix of josei melodrama with its 1920s historical setting, and some brutal yakuza and brothel type elements that most Western fans think "women's titles" would ignore, would make it perfect for a video review by someone who likes to do video reviews of obscure retro anime movie and OVA titles... Just saying. Also, I know it's mean to pick on an obvious editing error when making these awesome videos, but I kinda enjoyed that the brief clip here of Rose of Versailles credits it as Space Adventure Cobra. ;) Anyway--I missed this video when it was first posted, so glad I caught it now!
I nearly choked from laughter when you said the line "But Shironosuke (sp?) is able to subdue her...with his penis." Also, the last episode I watched before this was your review of Golgo 13 and it immediately came to mind when you began describing the protagonist and just before you brought it up yourself. Love connecting those dots.
Again another great espoide. I like to ask you if you like to be on my podcast NerdTalk after the holidays of course. Thank you for your time and have a great day.
@@KaiserBeamz Since it’s detailed in appearance for a censor bar, it feels off if shrunk down too much, and as a .png, it gets visibly blurry when it has to cover a lot of the screen. I hope that someone else may share their own opinion, though
This is one of the best bad anime movies ever and that's why I loved it after seeing it 20 years ago. If you go in expecting something slightly below B movie quality, its great. You need to see it to appreciate the good movies. And on that note I'm going to go watch Ninja Scroll, lol.
Always happy to see a new video by you. I'm fascinated by animation, and you do great job packaging older anime that I'd otherwise never see

"Sword for Truth" is to "Ninja Scroll" as "Johnny Mnemonic" is to "The Matrix"
Okay, now you're just making it sound awesome.

@@the-NightStar And I thought Matrix was a rip-off of Ghost in The Shell…
That's a mean comparison.
Even Mnemonic made me grin sometimes. What I remember, sword of truth made me angry
Who else remembers this OVA mostly because TFS used a clip of it in the episode where Cell announces his Tournament?
yup

Saw it today and I enjoyed the gratuitous/action bits. feels like there should’ve been a sequel. I would have guessed it came from the 70s tho
"Mommy mommy! I wanna go watch Ninja Scroll!"
"No, son. We have Ninja Scroll at home."
NINJA SCROLL AT HOME.
Kids watch ninja scroll 😅
I don't know if you take request for other OVAs to review but one I would like for you to review sometime would be Lily C.A.T
Yeah I recently watched this movie about a month ago that's time from my life I will never get back
Everything we do is time from our lives that we will not get back 😅

Well, you can only polish a turd so much.
watch it drunk, it improves the experience by a lot
this does feel like a tv show pilot from how the ending was done and etc lol
Didn't expect Amber M. Panyko's Personified Web Rating Lady X to show up, that was a fun surprise!
While he did give us dear Brother and the 90s Blackjack OAVs, the 90s and 2000s would NOT be a good time for Dezaki...
Also, Tsutomu Dezaki is probably a mistranslation on behalf of Manga Entertainment, who were notorious for mistranslations in credits.
Possible theory, but it still doesn't take away from the fact that there was no directing credit whatsoever in the end credits.

Since you talked about dirty pair i wonder if you're going to do their other ovas from the 90's
On the bright side he did good anime like Dear Brother series and Black Jack both OVA and the Movie

Any chance of the next review being Clash of the Bionoids (Janky vintage dub of Macross: "Do You Remember Love?") ?
Sword for truth is a perfect example of a movie with bad reviews that is absolutely amazing
I’d say it was interesting but not amazing for me
''Shuranosuke the Demon: Man of the Death Scythes Crest"

I am now pleading for a new censor box
I see no reason replace Lady X. She's been doing bang-up job censoring tiddies for the past 2.5 years.

Well, I guess ruclips.net/user/ElFamosoDemon could use it for music visuals
