I wonder if I'm the only one who likes their older stuff a bit better (Vale, Easton Hope, To the End)? While you can tell that they're still finding their sound a bit on this album, the older stuff is wordier and more expressive. I feel like the songs on Gunmen rely too heavily on the catchy choruses and though they do adequately tell of another chapter of Allister Vale, there isn't much lyrical content or musical exploration. I'd be interested in what other people think here.

Yeah I totally agree with you, though I do enjoy the Ravenhead album still as that was my entry to discovering them. I can appreciate their new album still, but prefer their other stuff :)

Obviously I think the band is experiencing less nowadays, logically that there is an attempt to make the sound of the band more accessible, but still maintaining its characteristics. Today their songs sound much more direct and with more choirs. I do not blame the band for trying to reach a larger audience as long as it does not compromise the quality of the composition, and I think they're still fine. What I did not like much at the beginning were the keyboard solos, although I liked the keyboards used to give background music.
