- Bob's Big Boy @bobsburbank on Riverside Drive in Burbank, California is a part of America's drive-in legacy - though the car hops no longer roll up to your car windows delivering burgers and shakes. But you can witness that bygone era as it comes alive every Friday night at a classic car show - which Lost LA host Nathan Masters and author and chef George Geary enjoy in this latest episode, as they experience a throwback to the 1940s. Learn about the landmark's Googie architecture and mid-century neon - both of which were designed to catch the eyes of passing drivers. It's a feast for the eyes and the palate, as the home of the original double deck hamburger (which possibly inspired the Big Mac).

I remember going to the Bob’s Big Boy drive-in in Glendale California when I was a kid. They had the drive-in as well as a sit-down restaurant. It was right across the street from the Bob’s main office. The company was later acquired by the Marriott Corporation, and they expanded all over California and maybe in other states. They built many mid-century modern locations, many of these buildings are still standing today, but have been renovated into other chain restaurants. The one in my town was converted into a Denny’s like five or six years ago. There was also another original Bob’s Big Boy in Eagle Rock (Northeast Los Angeles), that was strictly dine-in only. It’s so sad to see these old time restaurants now a thing of the past!
I went to the Bob's Big Boy on Sherman Way in Van Nuys years ago after work .....one of the best!
Hung out at the one on Van Nuys Blvd on Wednesday night and the weekend...😊😊😊😊😊
Wednesday night was cruise night on Van Nuys Blvd.
The Beatles ate at the Burbank Bob’s Big Boy location. There’s a plaque at the booth they dined in commemorating it ✌️
Nice vid and wish I could cruise on down for a Friday night. However it's a bit out of the way from Ontario Canada.
These "Cruise Nights" have become pretty stand almost world wide and most communities have at least one in the area on a designated night.
However a little known and/or realize fact is that this "Cruise Night" culture started in Cambridge Ontario Canada back when the area was called Galt, Preston and Hespeler.
Pretty much in the middle of the triangle of these three towns that became Cambridge was an old original A&W. Drive up under the canopy, Car Hops and back then Thursday night the muscle cars, hot rods, classics and more took over.
How it came about has been the subject of many a conversation and speculation. But the owner and a friend ran with it and had cars showing up from miles around to partake in the cruise night to the point that every parking lot around was packed full.
Then it would appear that some decided that they didn't need to drive all that way as 'we can start our own' & the culture spread...
Sadly the old A&W is long gone (moron's) but its legacy is felt every night when car nuts head out to a 'Cruise Night'...
really fun and informative.
