Sorry about your dad passing away. Just take your time and learn basic maintenance, oil change, air filter replacement, tire rotation. Great walk through! Curious what is the thing on top of the engine with the wires plugged into it, to the left of the ignition coils and in front of the oil cap?
Looking into buying this exact model. It's got 190k. Exteriors pretty rough, been left out in the sun a lot, but it's got great maintenance history and no real issues. The guy is asking 3.5 k for it, I think I can get him down a little bit but what do you think?
I would check edmunds.com to see what a similar vehicle goes for in your area. You should offer what you think is a fair price. Just be prepared to walk if they don't accept. I done that more than once even with a dealer. Good luck.
@@cfldriven thanks! I talked to the mechanic who's done most of the work on it, he likes the car and how it has been treated. There aren't any other Mazda 3s in the age group around here, everything else I've seen online is going for between 4 and 5,000. I'm going to go for it! It's my first car so I'm excited!
@@abeott5866 I had this car for 13 years, and except for a water pump that went out, it didn't have any issues. Just change the oil and filter at least every 6 months and don't abuse it. Performance tires are a bit pricey but make this hug curves at speed without complaining. Best of luck with your new car, and drive safely.
Yes absolutely, one of my favorite cars for its very low maintenance and just fun to drive. The only major repair I recall was the water pump going out. If you have the performance tires they can be pricey to replace. Otherwise a well built car with a great engine that should remain trouble free if you take care of it. My kid drives a 2002 Protege and loves that Mazda.
Petru, I love this car, but sold it back in 2018. The engine was great with only scheduled maintenance. Thermostat went out and it got replaced along with water pump. Performance tires are a bit pricey, but never got tired of driving this 5 speed in the city or open road.

I just bought the sedan version of this as my first car, same color, engine, and everything (5-speed manual). I've heard these 2.3l have oil-burning problems, have you noticed that in yours? Are there any problems you've had with this car at all?
Sold mine in 2018, never had any issues with burning oil. When I first got it, had to have one of the rear struts replaced under warranty, and the only other repair was replacing the water pump maybe ten years later. I changed oil and filter every 6 months. I broke a visor clip and had to replace front headlight and license plate lamp but these were DIY projects. It was a very easy and cheap car to maintain with the exception of the performance tires on the hatchback. I sold it when I got an VW e-Golf and none of the kids wanted to drive stick, they're so silly.

@@amrickdhillon1283 The quality and build of Mazda is very underrated. Kept my 323 for 18 yrs, the 3 for 13 yrs and one of the kids drives a 2002 Protege. Unless the previous owner thrashed it, your sedan should last a long time. Enjoy!

Hello, if I want to replace the white "blanket" under the engine cover (shown in minute 7:14), what should I look for? I tried typing "white blanket under engine cover" and things like that but I can't seem to find any products that loo like that. Thank you!
First try the dealer to see what its called and get a parts number. Then either buy it from them or check some auto part stores. You could also just buy some insulation and using spray adhesive to attach it. Or the cheapest solution which is remove the old blanket and just do nothing more. It won't hurt the engine if it is missing.
As I recall it was the S which included 2.3L CA engine, 5 spd, hatchback w cloth inter, cruise control, and alloy wheels. It cornered like a sports car and was a fun car to drive. Maintenance wise the car was easy and inexpensive to work on. The only problem I ever had was the coolant thermostat needing replacement, otherwise just normal scheduled maintenance.
@@ahmadaladin3051The timing chain are known to prematurely stretch if you don't change your engine oil regularly. Other than that, they don't need to be replaced.

A crankcase is the housing for the crankshaft and is integrated into the engine block which is the lower portion of the engine. The purpose of the video was to show locations of items that need regular maintenance like engine oil, brake fluid, washer fluid, engine coolant, steering fluid and air filter. Hope it was helpful. @cfldriven oh dude I already know. I love driving my Mazda 3. Even in automatic it's such a fun car to toss around. However I'm in the process of mechanically refreshing it. Cause a lot of parts are old and tired out. The majority of the parts on my Mazda are original OE from the factory in December of 2004. I've replaced a handful of parts on it so far. Try not doing 100mph on a windy day with old suspension components. Very sketchy feeling

@cfldriven damn so you sold it. I've did quite a bit of work up do this point including the stuff you mentioned. A lot of people say I should sell my 3 but I can't see myself doing that. I love this car too much plus I've put a lot of money into it. But even still it's cheaper then getting a newer more expensive and probably more boring car. I've owned mine since 2018.
@@bricegraham8256I would probably still own it if I wasn't for needing the EV tax credit. You're right about it being cheaper than getting a newer car. My daughter drove her 2000 Mazda Protege until the engine blew. The Mazda 3 is light years better and worth keeping. With good maintenance it will last a long time. I kept my 1988 Mazda 323 for 18 years before selling it.
@@cfldriven I currently have a 2006 Mazda 3 GT (2.3L) and its true, it is a great car; but, I've learned that it requires more attention to maintenance compared to a Honda or Toyota.

I believe it is the VVT Variable Valve Timing oil control valve.

Don't have the car anymore, but I believe it is front right side (driver side) of the block.

Great news! Once someone smashed in my M323 tail light and a junkyard had them for a third of the price of dealer cost.
The coolant is water right?
Actually it is a mix of distilled water and anti-freeze or you can also just purchase pre-mixed antifreeze solution.
Don't forget the blinker fluid
The engine have timing belt or timing chain
I recall the 323 and Protege having belts, but pretty sure the 3 had chain.

Sold it before moving cross country. It was a great car, expensive tires, but fun to drive and maintenance wise very easy on the pocket book.

Fun Fact: That engine is actually the Ford Duratec 2.0L/2.3L/2.5L engine.
While I don't have anything good to say after owning a Ford Focus, the Mazda 3 was a great car engine and all.
