A very proud Northern CA girl here! I used to talk to people from all over the US at work and was often asked how big the redwoods are. I simply could not express how magnificent and ginormous they are! They are something you have to see for yourself. Northern CA is really a magical place.
Total respect for how you handled the rain. My family loves to travel, but sometimes rain is a factor. You just roll with it, and have fun and make memories anyways. :)
Thank you! We definitely try to just roll with it, but we don't always succeed! Lol... Somedays it gets the best of us. If you've watched our Maui video, then you know this! Lol... Thanks so much for watching and commenting!😊
Went back to watch all 50 states after finding you guys in 2023. Was so happy to see you in California where I live! So surprised you didn't go to Southern California thou! Or Tahoe, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Big Sur, San Deigo! You guys did take a trip I've been trying to find time to make for so long thou! So much great content! Hope to see you make another trip to Cali in the future 😄
wow loved this vlog! everything about it was amazing! :) I’m headed to the redwoods today! & spending ALL day there tomorrow! thanks for the inspo! can’t wait to see these gigantic trees
Hello Matt & Nat, those trees are quite impressive! Too bad about the rain, but you made the most of it. Eric loved the "reporting live" bit and Anne loved the drone shot of you guys running. Take care. Anne & Eric
Right?!?! The trees are MASSIVE!!!! It’s so breathtaking!! Bahahaha so happy you like those bits! Thanks so much for watching y’all!! 💗🥰 makes our day seeing y’all’s comment!
I live in Fortuna, and go there all the time. Avenue of the Giants parallels hwy 101 so it isn't out of the way. Several groves to see and lots of pull-outs. My favorite to share in Humboldt Redwoods is Founders Grove. It has a nice loop trail which includes Founders Tree. It also has the Dyerville Giant which fell in the 90's at the time it was the third tallest known at 367 feet tall, 56 feet around and 17? feet in diameter. Now just really long. If you want to know about more places here, just reply to this. I've been here over 50 years and know it well.
@sashified. if you're coming from the south, on hwy 101 is the Chandelier tree in Leggett. That's the coolest drive-thru tree. There's several gift shops as you get near the redwoods. They all have the typical Chinese made gimmicks, but the cool items made out of redwood are made locally. If you buy something redwood, look for a tight grain (growth rings) if you see them with 25 to 100 lines per inch, or even more, that's old growth redwood. Avenue of the Giants starts near Piercy. But I think the best of the Avenue starts at Myers Flat. There's another drive thru in Myers Flat. It's ok. But there's some really cool things outside the gift shop, especially if you have kids. There is a two-story playhouse carved from one piece of wood. From Myers Flat going north, there's many groves to explore. You'll come to Burlington campground, which has a great visitor's center with all the smokey bear/junior ranger type of stuff. Great displays, short redwood history video, souvenirs, etc. You don't have to be a camper there. Next is near Weott, a sign on a tall pole marking the 1964 flood high water level. There's nothing else in Weott. Still heading north on the Avenue, you'll come to the California Federation of Women's Grove. Everyone here just calls it "four fireplaces" Great place to have a picnic. The tables are massive redwood slabs capable of seating very large families. Moving on a little further north, you'll come to Founders Grove, just before the bridge, turn right. Great place to walk it off. As I explained above, the Dyerville Giant is the most impressive example of the size of these trees. It fell. Then, several years later, another fell on top of it, crushing the base of the giant and literally exploding itself. Heading north again, just across the bridge, the road forks. Left is Mattole road. It goes through Rockefeller Forest, to the ocean and loops all the way to Ferndale (the Victorian Village) and back to hwy101. Or you can keep going north at the fork to Redcrest, it's gift shop and several more groves. If you are adventurous, I'd recommend mattole road to Ferndale. You might see a couple cars. Very few tourists. And a gorgeous drive. From Avenue of the Giants to ferndale is a couple hours. There's zebras in a big field on the left side of the road about halfway. There you go. There's so much more. Let me know how it goes.
@sashified. I just typed out a huge list with directions and everything for you. But I don't see it. That really took a while 😟 Edit: Maybe, because it was so long, youtube has to review it before posting.
I've camped in the redwoods at Big Sur before. It was raining and I couldn't believe how long it took the rain to get through the trees. We were under the trees foe 2 hours of a downpour before the rain actually made it through the leaves. Crazy and AMAZING. LETS GO!
Thank you for this one! If I went to California, the Redwoods would be my #1 stop! Way more important than a beach or Hollywood! I love that you took us to these amazing trees. Sorry you didn't get any of that California sun, though.
Yea, California is huge!! But it was the Redwoods always! I’m so happy matt wanted to go back & explore them with me!! They truly are beyond breathtaking! Aww thanks so much for your kind words. They mean the world to us. We’ll have to go back to see the sun! ☀️😝
Can't believe only 5 states to go! I live in the UK and have not yet been to the US but I have so enjoyed visiting all 50 states through your videos! Can't wait to get over there in real life someday. Looking forward to states 46-50 and your next adventures!! :-D
Right?!? So sad it’s almost over! 😭crazy how fast it went by! Awww we have loved having you on this adventure with us! 🎉🎉 You will have so much fun exploring the US when you get over here! Thanks again for watching!! 🥰
I highly reccomend this amaizing video.Really I was shocked to see such flora,I thought such trees have dissapeared in uor times.Nat and Matt thanks greatly for show
Hi Matt & Nat, it's a wonderful video, great places worth dreaming of when sleeping, thanks for sharing and spending a pleasant time seeing the beauty of Northern California, happy trip.
Greetings from Smith River, Califortnia! I enjoy riding my bike over to Jedediah Smith Redwoods SP. BTW, the plaque commemorating the founding of RNP is in LBJ grove.
Jedediah Smith campground is our favorite stopping place! There is a specific campsite (#17) near the end on the north side of the road next to the river that we always try and reserve when we go there!
Omg! How beautiful are these trees! Kissing under a Redwood?? Wow! That's some mistletoe!!! lol 🤣😆 You two are so much fun to watch, you two take care, stay safe and may God bless!! 🙏💋💋
Did you have any anxiety driving that rental car through the tree? I was holding my breath 🫢 Also shout out Matt your aerial footage of you and Nat running down the road was cool.
Bahaha 🤣 never thought of that! 🙈 Never doubted Matt for a second! Lol he’s a wayyyy better driver than me! Lol That footage was my favorite!!! So thankful for y’all!
Beautiful place. Other worthy redwood parks- Calaveras state park and Muir Woods park. Calaveras is where they cut the bark off the tree to show in the world show how such a huge tree even existed. It killed the tree but the tree trunk showed its existence as a bowling alley, dance floor and other worthy ways to remember.
Awesome job highlighting Redwood NP & ST! Great editing, music & commentary throughout! After watching, we want to visit this park even more now. Beautiful scenery! Glad we found your channel! 👍
Hey guys what a brilliant video as usual 👌 loved everything about you adventure! Omg wow the trees r huge 😳😳 keep up the amazing work 👏 take care both 🇺🇲🇬🇧🍺
Aww thank you!! It makes me so happy you noticed & like it! I was always so frustrated watching others go, what was the name of that? Trying to get a look at the name of the business etc so Thank you for making my (the video editor) day! 🤣😜💗🥰 - Nat
It was so rainy when I was there in June last year too. Lol 😂 we could hear the sea lions in Crescent City but we couldn’t see them through the rain and fog! Lol Amazing though-those trees and that coast and the moody vibe of it all… took my breath away for sure and like you said you can’t even describe it… you’ve just gotta visit for yourself! We were at Chandelier Tree too! 💕
Oh really?? I feel like it’s always raining there! Haha 🤣☔️ oh really?! SOOO TRUE… all the photos, videos don’t do it justice! Lol oh that’s so cool y’all were there too! 💗🎉
Awesome video! You guys have such great adventures. We love your energy while traveling! About to visit Holland, Michigan and just watched that video again. Thanks for all the great suggestions
Thanks so much y'all!! That means more than you know! We hope y'all had a great time in Holland! That's a fun little town! Glad the video was helpful! 😊Also, sorry for the late reply. We appreciate you watching!
Hey guys, Amazing vlog! We are heading to the Red Woods soon in an RV trip and were wondering if you encountered any problems filming in the National parks during or after filming? We have heard of some people getting fines and copyright strikes which is scary!
Hey!! This video was filmed during the period where no filming permits were required. I’ve heard that there’s an appeal in progress to potentially remove the requirement for small production filming again, but not sure of the details. The whole permit thing is a money grab and an outdated view of “commercial filming”, so hopefully they find a better solution soon. -Matt
Just stumbled onto your channel. Born and raised in California, and never went to the redwoods. I just moved out of state to your home state Nat, and back visiting. We should totally take the family to the redwoods.
Finally watched all your videos! Randomly found you guys and binged your whole channel 😂. You’re both awesome and have just charged my desire to come over to see your hometown! Massive country music fan right here. Keep doing what you’re doing, look forward to seeing the next adventure!!! 🤘😎👊🏼 Lots of love from 🇬🇧 x
Wow! After stressful day this relaxing video is exactly what I needed! Thank you so much for this video, the nature is really beautiful. I am from Czech republic and I've had chance to visit only New York and Philly so far. California is definitely on my bucket list! Greetings from Europe!
Aww yay! That makes our day to hear. 🥰 thank you so much for your kind comment. California is like 5 states in one. It has so many different landscapes, so we totally recommend visiting! Hey to Europe! So looking forward to coming back to explore! 💗🎉
Great video! Will have to check this out sometime. Great shot of you guys walking and running. Liked the pictures of Mat added in. Editing is spot on as always.
Been awhile since I’ve checked in but I didn’t stop supporting! Y’all are awesome I’m sure it was hard to choose where to go for a place like California
Hey Richard! So great to hear from you! Sorry for the late response... Life has been crazy! We really appreciate you watching! California was definitely a tough one to pick where to visit! And we left a LOT to be explored! Can't wait to go back!
That was wonderfully fun to see the lovely natural forests of northern California. Thanks, Natalie and Matt! Sorry about the rain but Californians need as much as they can get now that the state is in a drought. I really don't remember the Redwood National Forest much seeing as it was around 1950 when my family visited and I was in 2nd or 3rd grade at the time. It's great that you decided to visit northern California. It's so incredibly beautiful. Unless you go out to the deserts or mountains of southern California (highly recommended, btw), the towns and cities of that part just meld into one another for miles and miles and a lot of the beauty is manmade. Looking forward to your vlogs of the final five states. If my list of the states you've not visited yet is correct, we're in for vlogs of Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Oregon and Texas. Thanks! Take care!
So sorry for the late reply 🙈 We’re trying to catch up! Aww thank you for watching & for your kind comment! 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing!!! California is truly beautiful! 👌🏼We appreciate you & hope you have an amazing New Years! 🎉
Hi you two 👋 California is beautiful, I lived there for over 25yrs. Only 5 states to go , then on to traveling around the world 🌎 👍. Have fun stay safe God bless 🙏✈️🪵
Hey Reuben!!! 💗🎉 oh really?!? It’s such a beautiful area! It’s like 5 states in 1! 🤣 lol right?! So crazy! This experience has flown by & yep… You are so right! Onto the next adventure. Still trying to figure that one out! 🤣🤣 God Bless you & your family!! 💗🙏🏼
Hi guys , I only just stumbled across you both as was looking at Nashville but now I’ve watched like 20 of your vids you crazy people .. loved the Alaska boat trip looked very calm …not 😂😂 luv ya both such a great couple
Hey Jon!! So sorry for the late reply! We're so glad you found our channel! Yea, that Alaska boat ride was something! Lol... Thanks so much for watching!
Aww thanks Dear Mountains!! So sorry for the late reply 🙈 We’re trying to catch up! Aww thank you for watching & for your kind comment! 🥰 We appreciate you & hope you have an amazing New Years! 🎉
Welcome to my home state of 69 years! The Redwood National Park is the most AWESOME place to visit!!! Are you heading up north or will you visit other locations in CA? Yosemite is an amazing place! In SOCAL you can visit the desert or you can come down the coast on hwy 1 which is totally romantic!!! Actually you might want to return and do that drive over a few days
I am a new subscriber and I love what you guys are doing. I mean, I can't even imagine going to all 50 states, that's amazing. Plus, you guys make it so refreshing with your fun personality and your presentation. God bless you guys and can't wait for your next adventure.
Aww thank you so much for watching George & for taking the time to write such a kind comment! 🥰 We truly loved our 50 States in a Year adventure! With non remote jobs & only traveling part time… it was a whirlwind but sooo beyond fantastic! 👌🏼💗 The US is such a beautiful country & it made us appreciate it even more. 🥰 Thanks again, you made our day & we love having you on this adventure with us! 🎉
I think an adverse reaction to us all being told to stay indoors and all the madness of the world right now is to go travel and grab life by the balls! I know I am! I got a settlement (coming any day now) and I am hitting the road! Can't wait to start my journey and share it on my channel!
Soooo very true Laura! It’s been amazing to see how many people are traveling again & seeing the world! We don’t realize what we have until we lose the opportunity to do it! So beyond excited for you and your adventures!! 💗🥰 -Nat
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been inspired to visits all the states now. I’m SO curious what states you would’ve picked a different city to visit if you had a do over
Hey Jamie! So sorry for the late reply 🙈 We’re trying to catch up! Aww thank you for watching & for your kind comment! 🥰 hmmm that’s such a good & hard question… i don’t know if we would have any that we would’ve changed… but there’s plenty of places we still want to explore! Lol We appreciate you & hope you have an amazing New Years! 🎉
Hey guys!!! This video took me back to when I was a kid on a family road trip visiting the redwoods. Those trees are HUGE!!! But what a beautiful area and it looked like it wasn’t very busy so you could actually film in the middle of the road (which I thought was so cool). It was a bit of a bummer that it was raining so much but that just means you guys have to come back in the summer and enjoy the “best” coast again;-) Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. God bless you both 🙏😊
Hi, loved the video Thx❤ what month did you go? Also, I have a 4 wheel mobility scooter and we are planning a trip to the redwoods. Do you think I will be able to use it on any of the trails? Thx!
We were there last May and it is absolutely amazing! So worth the drive! I wanted to do the Fern Canyon also, but didn't want to drive our car into it either but, A+K just did so check out their video! Even in the rain, it's beautiful.
So sorry for the late reply Loey! 🙈 We’re trying to catch up! Aww thank you for watching & for your kind comment! 🥰 ahh love that you were just there in May! That’s so cool! You understand then how epic they are! The video doesn’t even capture how magnificent they are!! We appreciate you & hope you have an amazing New Years! 🎉
Hello! We just found your channel and love your content! Small suggestion...when you switch between music and talking the music is always a lot louder than your voices and we find ourselves turning the volume up and down and up and down.
Redwoods NP & SP’s are unique in the sense that there is no official entrance to the NP and the only areas that charge a day use fee are the three state parks: Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. That said… There were lots of RV’s parked at beach overlooks for the night, but if you want RV hookups then your best bet will be to find an RV park in the area. Hope that helps!
Matt is a HUGE rule follower, he’s always getting permits, has his drone license etc! I wanted him to bring the drone with us on our MSC cruise but the rules said he couldn’t. So we didn’t. They never even checked for it. Oh well! 🤣😜🤷🏼♀️ Thanks for watching!
A very proud Northern CA girl here! I used to talk to people from all over the US at work and was often asked how big the redwoods are. I simply could not express how magnificent and ginormous they are! They are something you have to see for yourself. Northern CA is really a magical place.
I live in the last area you went to. As a local i can say the Beauty of the area never gets old.
California, the most beautiful state in the union ❤
Those trees are what I miss most about California
Great choice , only place in the world to see those giant trees. Looked so lush and almost tropical.
Just love seeing all your adventures! Enjoy! Be safe!
Aww, thank you so much!!🥰🥰
Total respect for how you handled the rain. My family loves to travel, but sometimes rain is a factor. You just roll with it, and have fun and make memories anyways. :)

Great video! Will have to check this out sometime. Great shot of you guys walking and running. Liked the pictures of Mat added in. Editing is spot on as always.
Since I started watching this channel my goal is to visit all 50 states but not in a year lol. I love the videos keep up the good work !!!!!
Aww thanks so much!! 🥰 That is so fun that your goal is 50 States! You are going to have such an amazing time exploring this amazing country!

You guys should a “Our 5 favorite states” video after you visit all the states.
Ohhh that’s a great idea!!! 💗💗💗
💗🥰 -Nat
Y’all! Shout out to 90s cars. I miss my ‘99 Camry. That thing was a TANK.

Aww… Thank you so much!🥰
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been inspired to visits all the states now.
Love you both from India ❤
🥰🥰
Thx!
Hey Matt and Nat, the best time for to go is September.
Great editing, big hug ❤
Thanks so much, Noelia!🥰
Yes very beautiful Love from Assam. India
Thanks for watching!
So fun! Where else did y’all go while you were in California?
Just curious , of all the incredible sights in California how did you decide on the Redwoods ?
Because we did Oregon & California as a trip together. So we did Northern California. 👌🏼
Oh wow :)
So sad that the 50 state tour is almost over but excited for the Mexico trip..
Right?!? Sooo crazy!!! It’s flown by!!! 😭🤯
Followed! You guys are so cute ☺️
Aww… Thank you!!🥰
Greetings of Mexico 😊
Hello! We just found your channel and love your content! Small suggestion...when you switch between music and talking the music is always a lot louder than your voices and we find ourselves turning the volume up and down and up and down.
Any suggestions on where to stay?
Next time visit the Grove of Titans!
Heading to the Redwoods National Park for the first time in an RV, can we park our RV at the park? Love the video!
@@AdventuresofMattandNat Thank you!
I love Matt’s easy going demeanor, his beautiful smile, his calm way of speaking, and his soothing voice. Great video.
Did u get a drone permit?
Was told by a ranger last month in Wyoming drone is banned in NPs
Matt is a HUGE rule follower, he’s always getting permits, has his drone license etc! I wanted him to bring the drone with us on our MSC cruise but the rules said he couldn’t. So we didn’t. They never even checked for it. Oh well! 🤣😜🤷🏼♀️ Thanks for watching!
Thanks, will be heading out the as of May 2nd. The park looks empty
Awesome! Hope y’all are having fun!! 🎉🌲
I have never been to California
California is on my bucket list.i might just have to go to see the redwoods
Didn't even show the height of the tree🙄 thumbs DOWN
??
@@AdventuresofMattandNat you went to a really tall tree to show it, drove through it and didn't show the height
