This is giving me back nostalgia times.Burgo's era on Wheel Of Fortune is no doubt the best one ever. Thank you for sharing this. :) Heya you wouldn't happen to have any VHS episodes of Celebrity Wheel from this 1994 -1995 era? I know there are a few of them from the 1991 era on RUclips.
In regards to the round 2 puzzle, if the elderly lady contestant were on our "Wheel" here in the USA, she would've lost because she added the "And" in "CLOGS CANALS TULIPS WINDMILLS"....
It is fascinating that they were so lax there, as I'm pretty sure there is a clip floating around somewhere from around the same time of a contestant being buzzed out for pronouncing BLOWIN' IN THE WIND with the G in place of the apostrophe.....
Interestingly, during Tony Barber's run, the "Where are we?" puzzles included the "And" on the puzzle board. There was also a puzzle in 1997 that was "Taronga Park And Animals" (the answer to the clue was "zoo"), so the "Where are we?" puzzles on our version were quite inconsistent at first, before it got into the consistent pattern of three clues and no "And" Also interesting how they accepted "Holland" as the answer considering the country had officially been called "the Netherlands" for some time at that point
I also thought the ruling was to say only what you see on the board. I remember at a taping once that someone said a word with an "S" added at the end, and they did a "stop tape" for about 5 minutes to check.
Worst decision to sack burgo the show went down hill when Tony barber took over... tho Rob Elliott did a good job... Steve omecke was a joke.. and Larry emdur didn't suit the wheel
The beginning of the end for Burgo and Adriana. Notice they had a different puzzle category display and were still yet to change the generic dollar amounts to what they were later in the year and replace the second bankrupt in round 2 with the $600 space. These were obviously taped in late 1995
December 1995 it would have been taped. TV Week ran a photo of Burgo without the moustache on the issue that went on sale on November 27. This season premiere was aired January 29, 1996. televisionau.com summarises old issues of TV Week magazine and was able to see that the ratings of the movie “Outrageous Fortune” that aired that night made the the top 20 for the week beginning January 28, 1996.
@@JamesJimmaHarding I’d say now after seeing an ad for the episode for January 9 1997, this episode was taped very early in 1996 due to the year that appeared in the credits and also the fact that Hyundai was onboard in this episode as the new sponsor. If it had been taped in late 95 there would have been been a Mazda there most likely given how the new car sponsors in subsequent years were seen months into the new year and the turnaround between filming and airing was longer. The turnaround during this era was a lot shorter - John Deeks filled in for David Day for the week beginning July 1, 1996 and Channel 7 on June 17 had to categorically deny in TV Week the rumour that Deeksy was replacing Burgo as host that the reason he was seen at SAS-7 was to fill in. Tony Barber’s first episodes were filmed very early in July also.
John Deeks took over from Rob Brough as host of “Family Feud” in 1996 hence David Day becoming announcer. Deeksy however was announcer in 1996 for a short-lived game show called “Talking Telephone Numbers” which was hosted by Rob Elliott. Seven cancelled the show after 3 episodes and the revamp of Wheel for mid-1996 came about from that cancellation as a means of finding Rob a new show on Seven.
@@7120Magnum Tony barber took over halfway of 1996 when the wheel relocated to Sydney and sacked burgo who later told 7 to shove it when offered job back in 1997 and went on to 9 for burgs catchphrase... desks retuned to wheel soon after...
@@cheekypeteski7545 I’m very well aware of the history - heck I still remember the first time I heard of Tony Barber was when my mum told me at 4 years old that he was becoming the new host of Wheel. The whole revamp concept was devised with the intention of Rob Elliott taking over from John Burgess, Elliott was the original choice, Barber was a “captain’s pick” on Gary Rice’s (the managing director at the time) part. I can tell you as well that they didn’t extend the offer to Burgo to “return in 1997”, they wanted him to come back ASAP and host the final weeks of Wheel for 1996 and continue on from there - Tony only found out about it from Burgo himself.
This is great. Do you happen to have any further episodes from 1996 from both the Burgess and Barber eras and the 1997 premiere where Tony Barber handed the show over to Rob Elliott?
How long did that rule change last (winner is person with the most converted dollars)? I'm pretty sure it wasn't still in place when Tony Barber took over. Also, shouldn't that Round 2 solve have been ruled as incorrect?
It was scrapped in July when Tony Barber took over. After that however until early 1998 a Bankrupt regardless of puzzles solved wiped your score completely. Easier to follow, but more risk. And yes, that round 2 should have been ruled as incorrect, having said a word which wasn’t on the board.
Moustache was shaved November 1995, this aired January 29 1996. From what I saw from early 1997 I’m quite confident now that this was filmed in 1996 as opposed to very late 1995.

I’ve always liked the bonus round timer music of this particular era…❤

This would be aired around 1996 because Burgess shaved his signature mo at that time
