- An American and a Japanese who met each other in China take a trip to Hakone, Japan. We speak a combination of English, Japanese, and Chinese when we talk to each other. What a complicated life! Even after living in Japan for so long I had never been to a hot spring and had never worn a kimono. Who say's western people can't wear a kimono? Join us on this wonderful weekend getaway trip.
Below are language learning tools I have personally used for years. Direct purchases of software from these links goes to supporting this channel.

My mother was a dressmaker, a teacher of dressmaking and design and a student of history of fashion. She taught me that the design of the kimono has been very constant for many centuries. There was/is still fashion in Japanese formal women's clothes, but it is expressed in the colours and the patterns on the fabrics; the cut of the garments hardly changes.
You looked amazing in that Kimono!
R Fish Thank you so much. The rental place did a nice job. Toby wore his grandpa’s kimono that was passed down to him.
What a wealth of knowledge. You two are incredible.
Thank you for your kind words.
My getaway place in Japan is Kanazawa, Ishikawa. There are many people wearing Kimono and walking the street. Ishikawa is a hidden spot of elegance.
////// Those are places I haven’t been yet. I want to try wearing hakama next time!
Hakone is the best. Kamakura is closer and nice too.
Japan is a beautiful country with rich traditions. I really enjoy my time when I visit. Great video, thanks.
I'm so glad to hear that you love Japan too. Many people are traveling here now.
@@OrientalPearl I had a trip to Asia planned for February. One of my stops was Wuhan. I cancelled those plans without hesitation. As you know but many of your subscribers do not know is that most big Asian cities are, well, big. Tokyo, Shanghai, Seoul are densely populated and public transportation can be a real pain in the neck; especially if you are traveling with large suitcases.
Shinjuku Station has the most people of any station in the world. Seoul Station is not far behind. I usually do not have a problem because I am a 6'1", 220 pound American and I look mean and ugly. I usually do not have a problem but I see many Asian women get bounced around like a pinball.
Thonati m That’s so true! I always use a taxi in China, but it’s too expensive in Japan. It’s very hard to lug suitcases through the station especially during rush hour!

Hakone looks way better than Tokyo. Gentle and serene, rather than all hustle and bustle. You looked really nice in your kimono too!
Hakone is so beautiful, it looked like you had a wonderful date.
It was! I want to go again, but Toby is stuck in China and I can't see him until China opens up again.
@@OrientalPearl Who knows when that will be =(
I hope you and Toby are reunited soon!
I hope so too! I hope that everyday.
Wow Japan looks so beautiful! I think my escape place is closing my eyes and listening to soothing music
That's a good answer.
We rode with the same guy at 3:05 couple years ago 😄
Better than I expected. Worth the money
La Jolla, CA. I live in San Diego, but I go to a coffee house called The Living Room in La Jolla by the ocean. No music playing, just relax, have some tea, hear the birds and gulls, and write🙂
Coffee shops are great places to relax. I don't drink coffee, but most places have some good tea too.
@@OrientalPearl yes, I'm into decaffeinated teas now. Especially like the fresh ones from a block of tea, placed in a metal strainer... I was in Taiwan before and they made their tea this way as well...
Man0fMeans Really? What a coincidence.
Used to swim in the cove and walk among the paths where you could look over at Tory Pines. Wife's great uncle and aunt had summer home there for 40 plus years.
Small world, with big opportunities
Your kimono is so fitting for you! You wear it quite naturally & are graceful Not At All clumsy or awkward! Nice date ! Hope you both enjoyed the time together! Geti
Thanks so much! I want to wear another soon. It's a lot of fun.
My perfect spot is LONG BEACH N.Y., sitting on a bench on the boardwalk, facing the ocean!!!!! The breeze and the sound of the ocean are so invigorating! Love your videos! Very informative to the last detail! Keep it up!!
Oooo, sounds lovely! Too bad nobody watched these vlogs lol
@@OrientalPearl I do. :)
So do i😂🤣
Villages are very peaceful....
The best escape place is the escape from one's own mind.
Bom Diggy Bom Bom Well said! That’s deep.
Last year I used to arrive in Japan as exchanged student. At that time, I really wanted to go to Hakone because my uni is in Tokyo, not far from there. But generally, I had a great time in Japan. Now I want to come back soon and have a plan to apply for a Japanese graduate school. I think Waseda university is also a good choice. Thank you for sharing your story, I'm looking forward to watching more videos from you soon.
More coming soon.
you really rocked the Kimono! just beautiful!
Thanks so much. I want to wear one again.
I like to escape to RUclipss oldies channels and listen to the music of the 50s and early 60s. Some of them have slide shows of old cars and hot rods which we did back then.
My favorite place to go to relax is Here . Very easy to get to , just close the eyes and you have arrived .
I live in Detroit and escape by walking over to the plaza at Little Caesar’s Arena. Always quiet and deserted during the pandemic.
Love your videos.
That last question made me realize I have no escape place to go to in order to relax or meditate. Good thing to start looking for one now then.
I decided to binge watch all your videos Anming (will make time in the schedule to do so). Started from the oldest. I'm getting there!! 👊 Helps me feel inspired, especially with language learning. I want to make it a possibility for me to learn Mandarin and Japanese, has always been a dream since I was a teenager.
Thanks for your answer ❤️
You look beautiful in A Kimono Anming 🦊 Glad you had a nice day there 😀
Thank you so much! It was really wonderful. Looking back on this video now, I wish I had done it in a different way. I am getting better at making these videos. Now I'm looking back at the older ones and feeling like I want to change things in them lol
Haha one baby step at a time😂🤣Once a while i will also flash back your old vids
Beautiful kimono !
Thank you! This was actually the first time I've ever worn one.
Lovely and quiet place. Thanks for showing us Hakone. Hope to visit this place.
Bernardo Seijas I hope you get the chance to go there too! If you do, please try the kimono rental.
@@OrientalPearl I hope too. the silence of hanoke is simply mesmerizing.
My escape place is nature walks where ducks and waterfalls are!
Then this is a good place for you.
Binge watching all your vids :D
Hey hey! Glad to hear that. Sorry there are so few.
Dont be. I think this has been the best 1 year of your life. Had you join the youtube wagon another 1 year earlier, you would have been the top channel of Asia.👏🙏
The one place that I always go to when I'm stressed would be the library. I like to be surrounded by so many wonderful books 📚
You and I both!
I need to find me a Toby. Lol He's cute!
I found him on language exchange. He is the most patient guy ever. That's what I like most about him. I met 200 people before I found him. He's a keeper.
@@OrientalPearl Lol
He seems very laid back!
Love your videos!
Currently learning Spanish but you have sparked my interest in learning Chinese
During the second stint of quarantine in England, my 'escape place' is on the sofa with one of Anming's videos 😄
Awwww I’m so glad to hear you say that!
So sweet, my buddy is moving to Japan in a few months. I'll miss him but his wife and kids are already there.
Come and visit him!
@@OrientalPearl He's not there yet but yeah that's an idea.😁
You look great! Tobys a lucky man
My place where i travel to escape stress is a lake on the Austrian/German border called 'Eibsee'. It lies in Grainau at the bottom of the 'Zugspitze'. And every year besides 2021 i go skiing in 'Mühlbach am Hochkönig'. That's in Austria...
Looks amazing and you look amazing 💇🏼♀️
Thanks for checking out the kimono vlog! It was a fun day.
Love ur vids - you make me want to try and learn another language.
That's what I want to hear! That would be the greatest value to this channel.
Cute location!
I love all your videos please keep making more videos I know you can hit 1M subscribers soon if you keep it up have a great day you Inspired me seriously you do 💖💖💖❤️❤️
Thanks for taking a look at some of the vlogs!
Beautiful, and lovely
Thanks for checking out the more vlog-like videos.
Have you seen the movie “The Memoirs of a Geisha”?❤️ (I think you would love it) great movie. With being quarantined I have been binge watching your videos they are really informative and entertaining to watch😊💕.The man pulling the ride looked very friendly and talkative which I find to be very nice and comforting. 👍
I love that movie so much! I've watched it in Chinese, English, and Japanese.
I hope that I can convince my gf to wear a Kimono for some pictures some time.. :) I actually don’t really have a place to go to, to relax I think? Except for the coffee house in my city centre but I relax a lot at home too.
It's really fun, but very hard to put on. I can only wear one if it's a rental place.
The kimono 👘 are so beautiful and you look very nice 👍🏽 together with Toby. He looks like he’s wearing traditional clothes too? The waterfalls and area reminds me of the Native American reservation I’m from...minus the ducks. Hakone’s geography looks amazing 😉. God Bless you and your loved 💕 ones home and abroad. 🙇🏻♀️🔍🥰🌹🇺🇸❤️🙏🏽
I was wearing a rental and he wore the kimono his grandfather passed down to him.
Right now my favourite place to be at the moment when I am not in the city, it is in my I call it my "heart-place" in the countryside!! There I can properly unwind and recharge the batteries! 🍁🍯
That's a great answer.
even as a japanese it takes time to fit in kimono
Yes it's really difficult and technical. I have never been able to master it.
Hello Anming and Toby. Hope you guys are doing well. Anyway. People pack inside those subways like sardines inside a can. It's ridiculous and should be illegal. Also, you look stunning in the Kimono. And the rickshaw trip in Hakone? Amazing scenery. I bet you were devastated when you returned back to Tokyo?
Hakone was nice, but I can't imagine living there. Toby is in China right now. We were supposed to be reunited in March, but then corona closed down the boarders.
@@OrientalPearl Sorry to hear about Toby. Hallelujah for video chat.
Did you pick out the kimono? Or did the fitters? I often see videos of women walking in kimono and it sometimes appears like a struggle, especially going up stairs. They must wrap you in there quite snugly, but even so you didnt seem uncomfortable and the colors and pattern were beautiful. A shining jewel in the drab winter.
I got to pick it out and all of the accessories.
You look like steffi graf in kimono wow😍🤩
ow my gosh you look so beautiful and toby looks so cool awsome vlog as always
He's a great guy. There will be more videos with him and I once I return to China.
@@OrientalPearl you just keep pumping out the content
Sugoi. She is honto ni kawai desu ne, isn't she. Shinjerarenai. :P
ありがとうございます
@@OrientalPearl ども。お目にかかれて光栄です。
the place to realse my pressure is yangtze river and wujiang river 看着江水,就觉得所有不开心的事情,就像滔滔江水一样,奔流一去不复返了
哇,你写得好漂亮!想象力丰富,很生动的写法。
Where I escape in is the Theater
or in my studio. There is where you can create your own world and escape the madness from a world that’s full of cellphone zombies 😉
OMG, yes cellphone zombies are everywhere nowadays!
did yall drive from tokyo to hakone or train...it's so pretty...you did not try the mineral springs?
Romance car, it's a famous train. Yes, we did and it was really HOT! I couldn't believe how hot that water was. I had to dump some buckets of cold water in to cool it down. lol
1:23 oops! Need to learn how to walk like Geisha.
Ha ha, that's what a lot of Japanese told me.
Should have worn the kimono in that geisha village 😄
My Japanese wife & I had been to Hakone before when she used to live in Tokyo. But when we lived in Osaka, the go-to place in the Kansai region is Arima Onsen. 🙂
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arima_Onsen
That's a very famous Onsen.
Oh my, that just reminded me of being on the people mover in downtown Detroit. We would be coming from a Red Wings game and (somehow) decide that going to the casino afterwards was a good idea on a work night. So many drunk people packed into that little sardine can.
That's one of the few times the people mover ever has any people at all. lol
@@OrientalPearl Probably. The few people mover.
i think my escape place is playing video games.very good videos and interestings thing you saw us that probably we will never see.. i love your videos keep going you surely deserve subscribe
I used to be really obsessed with video games. I had to quit because I couldn't stop lol
☑️
Look nice in that Kimono, jeans walk though haha.
We were the only ones dressed up that day. It was kind of funny.
I didnt know the Riksha would be so much fun for sightseeing! But more surprisingly you have married to a Japanese, You didnt tell?????
Ha ha, we are boyfriend and girlfriend.
👍👍👍👍
I feel sorry for the man pulling the cart, it's like he is a horse, but he is a man and needs to be respected.
He picked the job. There's lot of other stuff he could have done for work, no shortage of part time jobs in Japan. It's probably nicer than sitting inside all day. They get paid pretty well too. That 20 minute ride cost us $40.
@@OrientalPearl He just looked tired when he was walking backwards to get up the hill, and at the end too.
郎才女貌很搭配🍎
What happen to him?
does the $70 include the rickshaw ride?
Sadly it didn't that was separate. Kind of pricey.
箱根是温泉之乡
对,我在这里泡温泉了。风景很美
Aww since everything going on when is last time you got to see your boyfriend🤔
I am sure tht is hard 🙁
I saw him on February 8th.
What happened to toby???
We broke up because of corona
If that's bread you are feeding the birds it aint good. They did of malnutrition. If you want to feed them give them corn or grain or something like that.
I just gave them what they sold at the stand.
Is Toby your boyfriend?
Yes he is.
I like the news from that Japanese TV show that tells that Japanese people are mostly jewish anyway. So If you are jewpanese then you are a jew twice LOL!
That's interesting because I know a Jewish guy who married a Japanese woman and they have 2 half Japanese kids. Interesting mix.
So you and the young man are an item?
Darrell Jones An item? What do you mean? This is my boyfriend Toby. I wanted to share this place with people in case they would like to visit.
Oriental Pearl hmmmmm.......😀🤔
日本城市自然风光非常漂亮,非常干净了,希望中国🇨🇳这方面多多向日本学习,越来越强大
对,以后应该越来越好的。
