Got about 30 seconds into the video and had to stop watching, going to start with the blown motor video and enjoy the full length build series. I've got a serious K24T+86 addiction and that thing looks good!
anyone whos put T after a engine code to say its turbo charged is an absolute nonce to the car community lmao. go back to VW bro. next thing u know ur ghonna say ur car is STAGE 2 bc of your ignorance
Knowing I'm not the only one dealing with these problems makes me feel so much better hearing it and seeing it drive with that k24 in there gives me hope for the future. I do plan to do this to my mind
I don’t really have anything against the stock FA series motor, but K series is the most pragmatic for an enthusiast on a budget! (and I think it’s an all around superior motor)
I liken this swap to the 20v Silvertop High-Revving engine that Bunta swaps into the 86 in Initial D. The boxer really lacked the get up and go. The K24 is a perfect match.
It does raise the center of gravity a bit, but because the engine is shifted all the way back to the firewall the front to rear weight balance is actually better! Plus the K is about 150 pounds lighter than the stock FA20.
I learned how to do it all along the way. Took two and a half years, and I’ve learned more than I ever could have imagined during that time. If I could do it, then so could you!
@@BuildingWithSeanmy engine just went on my brz and I’m looking at doing the same thing over the next couple of years. Where do you suggest I start to learn? Anything significant that helped you along the way or just trial and error?

Do you plan on taking it to the track? I love seeing the swapped brz's and 86's but I don't usually see people drive them much after the build series. Idk if you have any tracks near you but maybe a track series? That would be cool.
It will see track time eventually, but not yet. This car is my baby, and it took 2.5 years to complete. I’d hate to take it to a track, blow it up, and immediately put it right back on jack stands. I’m building a G35 as a dedicated drift car, so if you want to check that out make sure to stick around!
@@BuildingWithSean lolol. bro i want to pull the trigger on a new 86. But that dam motor man. I dont have the know how or patience to do a swap if it blows.
@@BuildingWithSean said you have to program the key for the ignition? Or straight up swap just harness and ecu ? Lol my bad for prying but this is dope
@@waynejordan7473 Didn’t have to do any additional programming for the push-button start. It’s a Haltech Elite 1500 stand-alone ECU and a pre-built wiring harness from KPower.
KPower offers a full kit around that price, but that includes pretty much everything except for the K24 engine. Engine/trans mounts, driveshaft, complete wiring harness, Haltech Elite 1500 standalone ECU, all new engine timing components, etc. Fully comprehensive.
How much psi boost was the fa20 running when it blew? I was aiming for 260hp on gas and 290-300hp on e85 to keep it “safe” but now I’m having second thoughts lol
It was making 8psi and around 250hp at the wheels. I’m pretty sure the oil pressure dropped and that’s what caused it to spin a bearing. So make sure to run a thicker oil if you go turbo. Something like 10W-30 or 10W-40, and you should be fine. E85 will help keep the engine healthy if you have access to it.
To be honest it’s pretty shaky. I’ve done a couple things for the swap to reduce the NVH such as the ATI Superdamper, but with any engine swap you’re going to reduce the comfortability of the car. The CD009 transmission swap is also contributing to that. Really it’s not all that bad, but it’s certainly more than stock.
It was a “Low-Mile” JDM engine that I got from an importer. Estimated 50,000ish miles. The K24 can handle 450-500 hp pretty easily, so for my goals I didn’t feel the need to go fully built internals. If the goal was 600+ I definitely would.
If you swap a naturally aspirated K24 and use the stock transmission, it can be done for around $14k-$15k. Mine is turbo, uses a CD transmission out of a 350Z/G35, and a lot of other aftermarket parts, so if you wanted to replicate the build it would be closer to $25k. I’m about to put out a full video explaining how much the whole swap cost, so stick around for that.
Can’t remember the exact spec off the top of my head, but it’s the 500ft-lbs rated, 6-puck, street clutch. It has pretty good feel to it, and not overly difficult to press to actuate.
Subaru needs to get away from the boxer platform. I understand it's their thing and I've loved many of their vehicles, but they're just ass compared to other Japanese engines, particularly Honda and Toyota. K24 was absolutely the best choice too, I love those engines. I had an all motor K24 that dyno'd around 250HP, my next one will be turbo, but the NA was so fun and responsive.
A couple of fuel mods, and a few more pounds of boost, and it’ll be right there. It’s built to be able to handle that much power, but we had boost issues on the dyno.
Toyota doesn't make anything remotely even close to what the K can do, with the aftermarket availability. Got a K24 on the stand waiting to go in my MR2 now
You just made that car 1000x better
