    Wow I never thought too much about that dialogue! What a wonderful concept for a video! I'd would've assumed Lass Madeline has rich parents who bought her X Atks and X Defs, and she happened to used them all in the Roark battle resulting in her not having them when we fight her😂

      Yeah, I suppose that's another possibility, lol! I guess I never thought of that one myself.

    You didn't account for the fact that beating Roark would give her pokemon experience, meaning they were weaker when she defeated him.
    Though it's also possible she's not using the same party she did to defeat Roark.

    Roark watching Lady Madeline stall the fight long enough to just gives her the badge to end it.

    considering her pokemon are level 5 AFTER the gym they would have had to be an even LOWER level during Roark's gym. So her team had to have been even worse than what was used here. Not sure it makes a difference since you're only doing 1 damage per move and I'm pretty sure none of these moves are learned between levels 0-5, but it does give a much shallower HP pool to work with and moves it from statistically impossible to likely literally impossible

      @yukihoshikawa  9 месяцев назад +3

      There's a decent chance this is impossible. I can't be bothered to look it up at the moment, but there's a real chance even if you entered the fight with level 1 Pokemon, you'd earn so much experience that you'd grow past level 5.

    What a great video! Loved the ride.
    Though honestly enough x items probably make it possible.
    (Hilarious that you pointed out Psyduck didn't even have water gun)

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  9 месяцев назад +2

      You're absolutely right that enough X Items would make this reasonable. Unfortunately, the X Defend that I picked up is the only X Item you can get before Roark - you can't find any others, and they aren't in Poke Marts at this point.

    Lady Madeline obviously pulled some anime nonsense, like attacking Cranidos feet or releasing a sprinkler.

  • @chaoticbravealisdair2925
    @chaoticbravealisdair2925 10 месяцев назад +9

    Nifty-keen indeed....
    What makes matters even more interesting is that the Starly and Bidoof are at level 5 when the player fights them. This means they must've levelled to 5 during the fight! She must've done this at even lower levels. What an absolute legend!
    That, or she got the badge through a bribe.

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  10 месяцев назад +7

      Option 3: Whenever Madeline defeated one of Roark's Pokemon, her own Pokemon also fainted, preventing them from earning experience.
      This would require, at minimum, one Revive (but probably more, lol)

    • @chaoticbravealisdair2925
      @chaoticbravealisdair2925 10 месяцев назад +4

      That could be possible via struggle.
      Option 4: She's doing a nuzlocke.

    • @ndm13

      Would the gym leader's Pokémon have gained experience as well? I'm wondering if you lowered everything by one level if the battle would be any easier.

    Getting 29 Rock Throw misses is 0.1^(29), or 0.000000000000000000000000001%. That's a decimal point followed by 26 zeros, followed by a 1.

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  10 месяцев назад +1

      Is that 29 misses in a row, or 29 out of 30 (or both, I guess, lol)?

    • @Frank_Erz
      @Frank_Erz 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@yukihoshikawa 29 in a row. For 29 misses with a 30th use hitting at any point in the sequence, the odds are slightly higher at 0.000000000000000000000000027%. By "slightly higher" I mean 27 times more likely

    Yesterday I started a nuzlocke run on Shining Pearl and saved before Oreburgh Cave entrance! The last trainer I battled was Lass Madeline and when she said she had the first badge I was like: "No, you don't! C'mon, how could you even do that? Beat Roark with a Bidoof and a Starly?!". The funny thing is that you proved it's kinda possible to do that with a shit ton of luck and RNG manipulation sooo respect to her (and to you going through the gates of hell to let us know how painful the process is). Her pokémon MUST HAVE BEEN WEAKER (that's scary - what is she hiding from us?) and must have gained exp. after defeating him so its natural to say that: 1. she didn't lost a single pokémon in the fight - 2. given the context of the pokémon games world she doesn't even know about nuzlocke runs so she's not doing one. Having said that, Roark's team must have been really weak... probably a lv.5 geodude, a lv.8 onix and a lv.1-5 cranidos (the lowest encounter levels in Oreburgh Mine and Cranidos was probably hatched from an egg). (Scandinavian Accent) END OF STORY.

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  6 месяцев назад +1

      The scary thing to think about, if she did do this at a lower level, is that Bidoof only learns Growl at level 5.
      Could just mean she got an egg containing a Bidoof that already knew the move, but...

  • @Rabarberium
    @Rabarberium 9 месяцев назад +1

    In-lore maybe Roark has a lower-level team that he uses for weaker trainers just like he has the rematch team after you beat the Elite Four? This doesn't make sense with all the trainers in every game who go on about how they have to train their teams to get stronger for a gym leader though

  • @antithepresent3541
    @antithepresent3541 9 месяцев назад +2

    Great content, love your voice and your personality!
    Keep it up !
    Is there other trainers that have that concept? Like, would Wally's team in Emerald actually beat the Elite4 & Steven? Would the Rival in Blue/Red? Would Silver beat the champion?

    • @yukihoshikawa
      @yukihoshikawa  9 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you!
      As for those ideas, do Wally or Silver ever beat the Elite Four/champion? Obviously the gen 1 rival canonically does, but off the top of my head, I'm unaware of any dialogue that states those two do so.

    • @antithepresent3541
      @antithepresent3541 9 месяцев назад +1

      I think if you lose to him on Indigo Plateau in HG/SS, he does mention if you lose to him that "I'm going to be the Champion!" but I think it's a very specific moment, having to have beat him at Mt Moon + Specifically Monday / Wednesday + You have to LOSE to him for him to mention it, which is unlikely.
      But in terms of absurdity of winning, nothing will beat a pup & a bird winning an gym by themself xP
