It's because the Mood Compass around Mikey's neck attracted to the clips/wires that Gretchen put on his face; the magnet of the compass attracted to the metal clips, adding more weight into the wires which increased the calculations, falsely determining that he'd grow to be 50 ft. Obviously Gretchen would probably know that it's almost impossible to grow to be that tall but due to the weight added from the compass through the clips attached to his face, (which Gretchen didn't know he was wearing at first) the calculations included that additional weight and therefore, the calculations were correct but if Mikey wasent wearing the compass, the calculations would show a more accurate, real height (although he is pretty tall already)

He's either glad that he will be tall enough to kiss Spinelli at the wedding, or he's glad that he will be a little taller than Spinelli so their heights don't look weird when they're walking together. I don't have anything against tall women, but people generally think it's odd when a man's wife is a lot taller than he is.
