A lot in this series is so styreotypical and offensive to french people 😑 1) Parisians are not all the french people. There is so much cultural diversity and each region of France has it's own identity, dish, accent and representative outfit. 2) No and no: French in Paris do not drive just vespas or motocycles. There is taxis and cars, and bycicles and trotinettes, metros, buses, Rer. 3) Not all parisians smoke and have a dog. Its a personal choice. 4) French do not overdress like it's fashion week every single day. Like come on it's a budget to buy expensive clothes. 5) the hours of work for classic companies are 9 am to 5 or 6 pm generally. A classic work day does not begin at 10h 30. That's crazy.

The whole premise that they send Emily to Paris is ridiculous, it is not the Embassy where her presence is needed, the work could perfectly be done by people in Paris office
The most unrealistic part of this is how she knew how to spell plouc when she didn't speak a word of French 😂 Edit: Be smart people! No need to reply with the same thing the past ten replies have said! Also, for those saying it's obvious if you have the linguistic knack for it (which is 90% of the comments) --- not quite so obvious if your acumen is sharp enough to know that the "ck" sound at the end of a word in French could be spelt "que" (as in "pique") or "c" ( as in "chic"). Personally, those two variations would've been my first two options. You need to actually know the word to narrow it down to the correct one, this isn't something you can work out from just knowing English. On top of that, knowing a bit of French, I know that slang is less consistent in spelling. And contextually, this could be a slang word. It's not a major possibility, but I would've put it at maybe a 5% chance that it had a non-traditional spelling. Of course Emily wouldn't have known that, but a lot of people in the comments seem to be thinking that French is all oui oui baguette. No, they have loanwords from other languages just like any other language. For example, "week-end" is a very common word in French, though obviously borrowed from English and spelt in an English way. Note how it's also (kinda) an example of the "ck" sound being spelt in an alternative (i.e. non-French) way. Now, all that in mind, since Emily doesn't speak a word of French, it's unrealistic that she would have immediately and confidently typed in "plouc". Even if I guessed plouc on the first try (and "hick" is contextually probable), I would probably try plouque as well, because homophones exist, and "plouque" could still be a word. But, for one thing showing all that is too much hassle and only adds confusion when the purpose of this scene is only to comically show that Emily is being left out of the circle at work. Chekhov's gun and everything. Another thing, of course it's possible that plouc was the only possible spelling that Emily thought of and she happened to get it right. And her mind didn't get around to homophones and all that. Reading a lot of the comments here, I'm beginning to think this line of thinking is more common than I thought. If anyone's still reading, thanks for being curious and have a great day! 😀

This is the thing I like about the Emily character. She’s tough and never shows if she’s offended. She always has a good response also which I admire. I love the clothes, the Paris scenery and the character of Emily is fantastic.
Bro, are you for real? She came to the office and didn’t even check for the schedule, she doesn’t even know the basics about French culture, which is ridiculous, she is the most annoying character
This is precisely why the characters hate Emily and why many viewers off-screen also hate her. She IS toxic to the coworkers who are stuck with her: she doesn’t prepare for anything, she is not qualified for the job in the first place, she doesn’t even try to make an effort to get better or blend in (like LEARNING FRENCH while working IN FRANCE and in the fashion industry where many of the jargon CONTAINS FRENCH), and she doesn’t give a crap about any of her failures. So no, my sympathies are for her coworkers and another fact, she IS a plouc.
@@Polly_JeanI wouldn’t be that surprised about it, I am trilingual so I have seen that situation happen a few times. But what is surprising is that they would call her « plouc » no one says that. But I guess that they didn’t want to use words actual French people would use in that situation because it would be too vulgar for the American audience. « La conne » or « l’emmerdeuse » would have made much more sense, « l’amerloque » like it was suggested is a good compromise, not vulgar and a lot more coherent in that situation.
Comment section shows this scene is very real and I feel sorry for you all. I would be happy to get to know my co-worker better during lunch time. Practice my english, maybe teach her my language a bit...
Ten-fifteen years ago I would have agreed 100%. Now I have had many coworkers, they change continuously and I have no more energy to work to know them. I just do my work effectively and not even try to feign any personal interest.
Her naivete and incompetence is probably why so many ppl, regardless of nationality, find her so annoying. So what if she wasn’t prepared for the job? Boo hoo, sad for her but it doesn’t mean her colleagues have to make excuses for her sub par outcomes or understand her situation. It’s not elementary school and she’s not a kid: it’s work and she’s an adult. She gets paid for work she’s supposed to get done with her coworkers and if her incompetence inadvertently ends up making a bunch of ppl around her uncomfortable, she should’ve made more effort to understand THEM. Instead, she goes whining and boo hooing about what bullies they are when she could’ve been spending that time being more productive like learning French or the culture or her workplace. I stopped halfway throuh the first season and I developed a severe allergy to this toxic Emily figure that I almost hate Lily Collins😂 Judging by the comments here, I see she STILL hasn’t tried to learn and appreciate French culture or the fashion industry. I’m not even remotely French nor American but it surprises me every season how this corny, stereotyped show with an awful main character can be sustained for another season 😂😂😂

I myself am not sure if Lilly Collins speaks the language But it would be nice if she does - her surname Collins is believed to be English or Scottish, derived from Old French, Walloon or Breton. Hence, it is possible that she might have full or partial ancestry from 🇫🇷. Her ancestors may have migrated to England and become Anglophone from then on. Hence, if Lilly Collins does actually speak Fr in real life, and if she really does have Fr ancestry, then she would be going back to her roots

It's only Americans that have this weird fixation with Paris being this like fabulous place the rest of the world already done knew that Paris is a s*** hole
From an American cultural perspective, the way they behave would be considered rude in the US. It is customary to take the new coworker out to lunch in the US corporate environment and purposely excluding someone would be considered a toxic work environment. Emily doesn't understand the cultural differences and perceives their behavior as bullying, and likely so do a lot of viewers since she is supposed to be the protagonist and a lot of viewers are watching through an American cultural lens.
If a French person comes to America without knowing the language, can I call them an insult for funsies because they don't know what I'm saying to them?
Can someone explain what Le Pleuc means?? I have re-watched it so many ways.. “the hick” (not hillbilly?)is it like outsider, foreigner.. “provincial” they used that about those clients with the leek 😅
Love the show, I don’t get the hate lol wouldn’t say it’s like the best show in terms of the story line but that’s kinda the point of the show, everyone’s kinda entitled but it is a show about fashion what else does anyone expect. I find it entertaining & comforting because it’s so unrealistic lol but it’s a show after all.
Many people (like myself) found the main character exceptionally entitled and irritating with no likeable characteristics to balance it out (and I like lily collins) it also seemed to bash the French and push the idea they needed to take on an American POV
I've watched Emily in paris from season 1 to 5. I think the reason why they "bullied" her is because of cultural difference and also I have to admit that Emily's personality is quiet relentless and obnoxious. She also did try way too hard to make friends and fit in. So I guess with the mix of being a foreigner, a new kid in the block , a new employee, and a Yankee that's why she got "bullied". I think it's more like not being included/left out of circle. Bullied is more like personal attack. At the end they love emily and accepts her for the way she is anyway. More so emily became more chill and relax and not so on people's face all the time... like she's just relaxed instead of constantly over the top all the time
The people talking about how it’s sooo rude to the French have never spoken to anyone in Europe about how they feel about the French and clearly never watched sex and the city. Y’all need to chill.
They treat her like that because she's so entitled she believes they have to adapt to her and her lenguage instead of doing the other way around. Also she is rude when talking to sellers, she doesn't greet them.
Throughout this whole episode I was like dang sound like her husband been with her the whole time and we get to the 51:40 mark and I was like oh ok I’m not tripping. I got the business building stuff too but WOW.
When they come for holidays here in Greece and enter a store, for example to buy a charging cable, they speak in french, not even attempt to use English to help us understand what they mean so we end up trying to understand each time with different methods 🤣
It's not really entitlement but a struggle against americanisation. Italian people are the same. You go to a country, you speak the locals' language. Locals shouldn't adapt their culture to fit foreigners.

@@CJ-vw3dt She was a last minute exchange & took the job on behalf of her boss . At this point she was also in a french class.
@@nityasg2260But at least you have the effort honey, how many season it is already?
French is not a language that you just learn in one or two years😂😂
I have been treated like this way too many times to count.
"Who do the people in Paris make fun of Emily?"
because she's entitled and won't even bother to learn to speak French while she's IN. FRANCE.
I would consider asking what a word means and googling the word as trying to learn the language.
She is an expat, she doesn't need to
She didnt apply for the residency, she was sent in place of her boss, ON WORK BASIS ..
so that means you should bully someone because they don't know your language?
Where you fucking go to France you will learn language ? So easey just like make salad? In one week or month? She is there for work and not to learn launguage. Her boss must to explane them that situation
Now time to translate "The Hick"
It's more like rube than hick
She's much beautiful in this season rather than latest season
Shes anoretic here, she became healthier AND MUCH PRETTIER later. You comment is crazy to me.
@@ritaruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuEuh, she's thinner at each season. What are you talking about ?
She looks like skeleton💀
@@ritaruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhum i think OG meant the make up and outfit. For which i agree, a lighter make up suits her well
Not French justifying their bullying😂😂
This is a fiction (and a bad one at that)
Nobody in real life would be that mean and childish
People don’t say that
It's so annoying how people come to our countries and think we have to speak their language. That's an absurd. Here in Brazil is the same. Learn the basic or hire a guide.
Funny cause two years ago at my job we had Brazilian exchange students and they didn’t speak a lick of English even tho they signed up to work here. Funny how it’s only rude when Americans do it. It when Mexicans are in America for 20 years and still don’t speak English were mean if we bring it up.
People aren't gonna learn a whole new language every time they go on a 10 day vacation. How absolutely ridiculous and arrogant of you to even suggest that!
Eu trabalho muito no paraguay, perto na frontera brasileiro. Muitos brasileiros moram lá, e são poços que conseguem falar espanhol, e menos que aprendem Guarani (o lenguagem típica de lá). Isso é problema mundial
@@XYZOxyzshe was talking about immigrants and not tourists of course...
@@Andreas-pj6np Actually the French expect tourists to speak French. That's why they're always so rude and angry.
She said "hire a guide" so to me that sounds like she's talking about tourists.
This is a crazy level of arrogance.
Everyone hated her American workaholic enthusiasm 😂😂😂😂
This is the thing I like about the Emily character. She’s tough and never shows if she’s offended. She always has a good response also which I admire. I love the clothes, the Paris scenery and the character of Emily is fantastic.
Bro, are you for real? She came to the office and didn’t even check for the schedule, she doesn’t even know the basics about French culture, which is ridiculous, she is the most annoying character
@@Lecintel yes,, yes,, dont get your knickers in a knot. It’s only a show.
@@LecintelAltho they have no right to treat her that way
No, you should solve your issues with others, not just ignore them, also, she's a pretty toxic person
She's definitely cute. The visuals in the show are beautiful on an OLED. Feels like a little vacation each episode
Once upon a time she had a good dressing sense
I’m almost done with season 4 LOVE it 🥰
This show is stupid.
"Plouc" Will never be used in this case.. "l'amerloque" seems to be a better possibility.
It also feels unrealistic to insult someone to their face
Season 1 was my favourite...it was more relatable.... In recent season... Emily is more like a supermodel 😂... although I love her looks...but it's Lil too much of fashion
I like to have lunch by myself 😂
I loved this show
Fun Fashion Food Friendship and France😂❤
Not realistic offcourse but shows are not supposed to be realistic. Why are you even watching shows if you want reality. Just close your phone and look around then 😂
What's the series?
I myself am not sure if Lilly Collins speaks the language
But it would be nice if she does - her surname Collins is believed to be English or Scottish, derived from Old French, Walloon or Breton.
Movie nameee/ plz/??

Emily in Paris
bullying is everywhere.. not only in one or two countries.. i worked overseas, n trust me its asia country where i worked n so many ppl loves to gossip n really loves to jump into other ppl business 💀
This show is so crazy. Emily is a flat out sociopath who only cares about herself and doesn’t care who gets hurt in her way. Also it’s so out of touch with the real world, only rich entitled people without conscience can relate to this show!
I ll never go to Paris😂😅😅😅 by watching Emily and how hard life can get, oh jeeez
She has a thick skin the French don’t let ppl in easy on this show luv Emily Paris ❤️
Well just saying - I have every single day lunch with a number of foreigners. So if you're actually good at English its rly no hassle to speak it on your lunch break or otherwise, haha. Also if I wait for foreigners to learn my lango... I'm going to wait a looong time.
With that being said - if I had a colleague like Emily, I dont promise I'd want to have lunch with her either : /

Lilly Colllins on season 1 was radiant 😮💨
French people don't have an issue talking to me in English but their accents are unfathomable. They really enjoy speaking/learning Spanish tho. It is Americans who don't speak languages despite being a cultural mixing pot.
Parisians think they are above everyone. But in that elegant city you can’t walk without looking at your feet because they don’t pick up their dog’s pool
They’re nasty people then
An elegant rat- infested city.
well, she's unlikable so they cast her well
Why is she unlikable?
@@XYZOxyz I find her stiff and unspontaneous.
Emily is outright racist. If it had not been France but an African country, it would have been cancelled after one episode.
But the french are racist too.

How do you work somewhere and not know the timings!
In what normal country does work start at 10:30? Seriously. It's absurd to move somewhere and assume their work hours would be that different.
Emily is the most annoying main character. The show will vastly improve is it’s Emily no more in Europe, now deported back to USA
My American ex was living in Europe for years yet he kept bitching about literally everything being better in states.... Despite admitting his life got significantly better here and he would never have a career like that in states. I mean.. Why do you people need the same flavor of chips fro 10 different brands to say you have good choice of groceries? 😂🤦♀️
This entire show is about American and French stereotypes. Everything is exaggerated or invented.
Je ne recommande à personne d’insulter un collègue au travail. Il y a des lois en France et notamment sur le harcèlement au travail. C’est un motif de licenciement. Quelle bêtise que cette série.
When I was in university I also had cigarettes for lunch
Paris is a joke. Now the entire world knows it. Thank, Olympics!
It's only Americans that have this weird fixation with Paris being this like fabulous place the rest of the world already done knew that Paris is a s*** hole
How entitled you should be to speak in the name of the entire world 🤦🏼♀️
France? Nobody knew about it?? They were conquerors!
Amen 🙏

couldnt watch it after a few episodes, how people stand to watch it for so long?
Why are people saying that the collegues are bullies? I have Not Seen the Show but they dont owe her their private time at lunch?
From an American cultural perspective, the way they behave would be considered rude in the US. It is customary to take the new coworker out to lunch in the US corporate environment and purposely excluding someone would be considered a toxic work environment. Emily doesn't understand the cultural differences and perceives their behavior as bullying, and likely so do a lot of viewers since she is supposed to be the protagonist and a lot of viewers are watching through an American cultural lens.
Would it be normal to exclude new people at work in France?
U will realise when such thing happen to u 😂😂for not knowing someone culture n lag
If a French person comes to America without knowing the language, can I call them an insult for funsies because they don't know what I'm saying to them?

The background music is annoying
Love the show, I don’t get the hate lol wouldn’t say it’s like the best show in terms of the story line but that’s kinda the point of the show, everyone’s kinda entitled but it is a show about fashion what else does anyone expect. I find it entertaining & comforting because it’s so unrealistic lol but it’s a show after all.
Absolutely
Many people (like myself) found the main character exceptionally entitled and irritating with no likeable characteristics to balance it out (and I like lily collins) it also seemed to bash the French and push the idea they needed to take on an American POV
Be careful of scams in japan chinatown
Best sci-fi series. Watching French guys speaking perfectly English is so weird looool. It doesn’t exist

More so emily became more chill and relax and not so on people's face all the time... like she's just relaxed instead of constantly over the top all the time
Did she ever bother to learn french?
Please, it's not true. As a parisian, I don't know anyone who begins work at 10:30
They'd be shown as bullies if it was about a french woman in US
Emily in Paris is a curse on this world 🥲
We need the gambit who can spew some awesome French and Cajun accent
Ohhhimmabouttomakeanameformyselfhere and it’s my names Jeff
Lol do they really call us ploucs? That's funny
Tbh I had to translate the last part from English
So she doesnt ask me..why
The people talking about how it’s sooo rude to the French have never spoken to anyone in Europe about how they feel about the French and clearly never watched sex and the city. Y’all need to chill.
because the show is written badly
They treat her like that because she's so entitled she believes they have to adapt to her and her lenguage instead of doing the other way around. Also she is rude when talking to sellers, she doesn't greet them.
Throughout this whole episode I was like dang sound like her husband been with her the whole time and we get to the 51:40 mark and I was like oh ok I’m not tripping. I got the business building stuff too but WOW.
All I’ve seen from this show is that French people have a very high sense of entitlement when it comes to speaking their language.
When they come for holidays here in Greece and enter a store, for example to buy a charging cable, they speak in french, not even attempt to use English to help us understand what they mean so we end up trying to understand each time with different methods 🤣
Ah yes, American shows teach you real things about France 🤡
@@melo-cotton7096 I get my basis off of traveler experiences and stories. This being in a show just solidifies that everyone is aware of it
It's not really entitlement but a struggle against americanisation. Italian people are the same. You go to a country, you speak the locals' language. Locals shouldn't adapt their culture to fit foreigners.
@@CaptainLysandra and that’s totally valid. I mean when French people degrade others for mispronouncing a word in their language, and then start using English without giving them a real chance..
