    I wouldn't mess with it. Someone has been in there, the cam valley is super clean. Maybe look at get another cam with more high performance. Great find. You really lucked out. Once you saw the high performance fuel pump and intake manifold, you really trusted your instincts. Way to go....

      @@twolousgarage6054 Comp Cams has an interesting profile for the Buick v8s. # 96-210-4, an xtreme energy cam that doesn't have a lot of spread between advertised and .050s duration. Heard it run in a Buick 400, didn't have a radical idle. A little hotter than the Stage 2 stock cam.

    Casting numbers are the same, how they are machined is what makes them different, you have the good heads.

    Love it!! Double springs indicate a healthy cam! I used dual Lunati springs on mine, with a 248*/.520" lift Poston GS105A cam.

    A customer left two Buick 455's at his body shop. One I'm pretty sure is out of a 70 Riviera and I believe it might be a stage one. Both motors have been sitting outside for a number of years, he said I could have both motors for free so if the 70 motors froze up it's no biggy being its free.

    Thats a good find. Those heads alone are probably worth as much or more then you paid for the whole engine.

    Nice find!! I'm about 30 min north of Scranton in Forest City. I have a 70 Skylark. Has the original 350. I'm looking to put a 455 in or possibly an LS if I can't find a nice 455.

      Thanks for watching! It will be *cheapest* to swap in a buick 455 if you can find one. You will need to buy BBB frame pads (readily available used and aftermarket), but other than that your th350 will bolt up and survive behind a mild 455. you can get away with the 350 power steering setup, and maybe the radiator depending on what is in it now. aftermarket 455 throttle cable, but you can make the 350 one work. I have a good running 455 currently in a 69 Riv i would consider selling. also have a few LS's laying around.

    There is no casting number to show a stage 1 head, both non stage 1 and stage 1 used the same head, you do have stage 1 heads by the valves but they are not factory stage 1s as the factory heads came with the valve unshrouded. Still a great find but you info is a little off. Also the pistons are stock replacement low compression pistons the stage 1 used more of a flat top type piston to get the higher compression advertised. It also appears the block has been filled for drag racing. the coolant transfer holes all seem to be filled.

      Great insight here, I meant to say correct casting # for a 70 head. I did not notice the block fill. I intend to run it on the street, so will have to plumb an oil temp gauge and make sure it doesn’t get too hot. Thanks for your comment!

  • @kimdearrington258
    @kimdearrington258 Год назад

    It looks like you have the deeper dished pistons which were lower compression, but that does not always deter horse power on the Buick engine.
    With the being said, of course higher compression is always going to boost horsepower, but it is not that noticeable difference in the 1970 verses the later model engine, like 1971 or even later.

    Did Buick NOT make any 4 bolt main blocks? I have yet to see one. I'm sure one could be made by adding the splayed caps and line honing them.

    • @twolousgarage6054
      @twolousgarage6054  2 года назад +1

      Not any production. There is at least 1 experimental 4 bolt main that survived. It is displayed annually at the GS Nats in Bowling Green
