    Its great to see someone still building kits. Ive done it along time, almost have my top flite gs p47 ready to maiden. Kit building is a dying art. Great work!!

      Thank you! And glad to hear you are still building. It is a dying art as you say. You are building a Topflite P-47, thats an awesome kit and plane, you know a lot more about this than I do! Good luck finishing the build, and the maiden!

    I have watched all of the videos for the entire build and really enjoyed them. I had already purchased a few tools and some plans to start my own scratch build but after watching the videos I am even more excited. When will we see the rest of the build? I am building a Piper cub trainer as I am getting back into flying after 30 year absence. I am already starting to think about what to build next. I was also thinking about where you would go next with your video series. Might I suggest combining RC and scale detail modeling and build a scratch build (plan only) plane? Maybe a WWII plane like a Corsair or P51? Keep up the good work.

      Thanks, I appreciate your comment. As for the Smoothie, my next vid will be hinges, the canopy ( should be short), then install the guts and balance, then maiden. I only have so much time to dedicate and the vids really slow down the build process. But it will be done. I’m thinking the next build will be the Balsa USA Nieuport 17. It looks like a really nice kit. And i do have a Royal P-51 that I want to get to as well. I think Im going to have to change up my format a bit so I can build faster. I also have a few side projects to add a little variety. Ill be doing a short series on me learning to run gas rc engines, I just got a DLE-20 I want to learn how to run, so thats coming shortly. But , ya, gotta get the Smoothie done also. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions.. good luck with the Cub!

    Thank you for making this series of RUclips videos. I just started work on this same kit. I noticed you decided not to use the Dubro .40 size tail wheel assembly that you showed in the earlier videos of this series. What led you to decide to use the stock tailgear arrangement instead? Thanks

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech Год назад +1

      Hi. Good question, and Ill try to to remember to address it in next vid on this. Well what I realized is that the bottom of the plane and the tail are not at a 90 degree angle. And thr Dubro bracket is 90 degrees between its base and the wire. So if I mounted the Dubro on the bottom, the hole that holds the wire would not be vertical and thus would not match the rudder hinge line which is vertical. I would have had to add a wedge between the base of the Dubro and the bottom of the plane in order for the wire to be vertical. So I decided to go with just the plywood plate in the kit. Being wood and thin, that angle does not matter. I hope that makes sense.

      @@JamesRCPlaneTech That's good to know. I had been planning to use the DuBro tail wheel assembly (as I usually do on kit-built planes} but now I'll go with the stock arrangement. Thanks!

      Hi, I was not familiar with the Pronto. I did look it up snd it looks like a cool plane, kinda classic look. Something to consider. Thanks for the tip.

    Where can I find 1.5 mm piano wire?

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech Год назад

      You can search online. Amazon has it. “Piano wire” or “music” wire is probably more of a general term for hardened steel wire and such. Hobby shops may have it also.

      @JamesRCPlaneTech Год назад

      I’ll have to measure it. I picked it up at my local hobby shop, its sold individually so Im not sure brand. I’ll check

    • @JamesRCPlaneTech
      @JamesRCPlaneTech Год назад

      So the size I used for the tail wheel is 1/16 inch. Im not sure the exact brand, but K&S Metals is popular. You can find it on Amazon or other online sources. ksmetals.com/collections/12-long-music-wire
      Good luck!
