- In September 2023 we asked Audi fans to help us pay tribute to a motoring icon, the Audi R8. A car inspired by Le Mans racing that became a defining supercar for a generation. Fans voted on everything from where and how the cars were shot to the music and storyline.
R8: The Last Lap is the culmination of that input, from our fans and followers. An epic celebration of a car we’re incredibly proud of.

@@ISAK.M There is two GT's. Mine is the Gen1 Type 42 GT in Suzuka Gray. The other GT is the Black Type 4S.

My R8 is all original and 16 years old now, but people on the streets still look at me like I'm driving a spaceship. The first gen V8 is just such a flawless car.
that applies to r35 gtrs aswell. theres a reason why both prefacelift version stayed in production so long

@yuriranayaranaNah, the R8 had an impact on a generation. It was a pop-cultural icon starring in movies like Iron Man and it’s known as Tony Stark’s definitive ride! Also was an excellent drivers car that captured many hearts of young petrolheads at the time (including mine and it still does) and the first generation still gets the hearts fluttering. The design style, the driving experience, the impact it had, etc. all tell me that many cared about it. Audi just let it dry towards the end of the 2nd generation by milking it, when they should’ve kept it as a rival to the 911 and progressively updating it.

It's a weird coincidence that right when I get my 2009 R8(gated manual), yall announced the R8 was done. Breaks my heart. Been my dream car forever. I'll cherish this thing.

well, its the beginning of the new tomorrow, which is lame, be it in any regard. this is the era of battery toy cars because apparently only engines cause pollution.
@@Kumar-bg6nr I think the more unfortunate issue is that EVs are outperforming ICE supercars. While the batteries are heavy, electric motors have incredible power and instant power delivery. In the future, I can see PHEV supercars with extremely powerful electric motors with tiny batteries and engines that only serve as generators being the norm. The packaging would be significantly lighter than a pure EV with a huge battery.

@Qwertylol I read a comment once that said car enthusiasts are really "noise enthusiasts." As much as I love the sound of a screaming V10, you're ascribing the soul of a car to its sound. The whole experience isn't lost in an EV, and it has its own "soul" in its unique driving dynamics.
I can already reminds me as a child watching Iron Man 2 and seeing this R8 Spyder V10 and I still love this car even among the huge choice of modern supercars nowadays because this Audi just hits different

A V8 with a gated transmission is still top of my list for attainable supercar. Was interesting to see that first gen with an updated steering wheel on it.
The absolute best run. I first saw the AUDI R8 in IRONMAN 1 and fell in love with the car. Since then, its been my ultimate dream to earn one of those beautiful cars. In fact I, motivate myself by reminding me that I have to get serious about my goals to one day achieve my dreamcar, AUDI R8. 16 years since I saw it. I am still a student and will always love the car, and its my commitment, I will one day make this dream come true. Great tribute. If possible, please make all the AUDI R8 models one last time. For me.

Started as a Le Mans Quattro Concept in 2003 and officially launching as an R8 in 2006 and goes on all the way to the end.
Ever since Iron Man 3, i fell in love with this car, one of my favourites, I've always dreamt of putting my own homemade 1.6l, 90° v6 f1 engine with solid state battery pack with 800v. A truly touching video, thanks a ton, Audi. Nostalgia rules!
That 1st gen R8 still looks fresh to this day! Long live the legend.

This is some top notch production quality right here, the cinematography, the editing, the suspense, the rhythm, the sound editing, the car itself...it is just mind blowing. Shout out to the team! Absolutely charming.
When I first saw it I fell in love, I didn’t know that after almost 5 years it would no longer be produced.
When I was 4 years old, I watched a lot of POV drives of the 1st gen R8, The sound of the V8, V10, and the click of the gated manual is just pure eargasm. It's where I started getting in love with cars and getting more knowledge about these incredible machines. Definitely my first-ever dream car. Here I am currently 14, very disappointed that it's gone. This car is absolutely legendary, I'm definitely gonna miss these amazing beasts, long live the R8!

Car companies that insist on electric-only vehicles line-ups will have a bumpy road ahead. Consumers want choice, not mandates. Killing off cars such as this only shows that manufactures care more about their ESG points than their customers. Just to be clear electric cars may have a place in the future, but end to end they are not currently that eco-friendly, not practical/convenient for those trips or payload hauls. Reliable and widely available supporting infrastructure needs to be proven and in place before attempting to corral consumers into a new technology. When solar is more efficient and less costly, battery materials are less toxic to produce and dispose of, the grid switches to nuclear instead of gas/coal, and charge times are reduced closer to time it takes to pump gas, then it's go time. Until then, hybrids are a great interim option.

Damn man that really sux to see such an iconic car go. Funny enough if you pay attention to Iron Man in all of the marvel movies he has been in, most times he’s driving an Audi R8 of some spec. With some exemptions of course. Crazy thing is he dies in endgame, and that movie released around the same time Audi announced they aren’t making the R8 anymore, just a crazy coincidence.
I hope this doesn’t spell the end of Audi’s involvement in motorsport. Honestly; with hearing you guys pull out of LMDh, pulling out of GT racing, maybe pulling out of TC racing, and now potentially pulling out of F1? It’s disheartening, really. I’ve always been more of an Alfa Romeo guy, but I’d still sad to see
I'm a huge Audi fanboy, and it's been depressing watching Audi pull out of all these different racing series over the years. But their main focus is electric vehicles now so that's where all of their money goes.

there really needs to be a last run edition of these beautiful beasts bringing back some bells and whistles from old like a manual version and maybe giving it some special trinkets as a big sendoff. the R8 was probably the first supercar I fell in love with and is still up there till this day
