Giovanni Battista Pergolesi was an Italian composer, violinist and organist. “Wait on the Lord” is an English translation of one of the fugal movements of his Stabat Mater, which is one of Pergolesi's most celebrated sacred works. He composed it during his final illness from tuberculosis in a Franciscan monastery in Pozzuoli, weeks before his death at age 26.
