      Both are fantastic animals. Gotta give Sovereignty the nod of being just a bit better regardless of the extra rest. Can not ignore the fact he faced Journalism twice now and beat him on the square twice. Sovereignty also has more tactical speed than most people give him credit for. Some people think he is a dead closer like Sierra Leone (completely pace dependent), he is not. If the pace slows down he can easily place himself mid-pack or even in the 1st flight as he did today.
      Love Journalism, but the truth is no one was beating Sov today. Sov ran his final quarter mile in approximately 23 and 1 maybe 23 and 2 and at that distance on that track that is absolutely flying coming home.

      I can hear it now from the so-called animal rights crowd about how "cruel " horse racing is, but I'll tell you if the horses didn't enjoy doing what they do, you'd never even get them into the starting gate. And watch them run..tails raised and manes flying, and tell me the horses aren't loving what they were born to do.

    • @taroseren
      @taroseren 5 months ago +2

      @adotintheshark4848it’s not the running itself that’s cruel it’s how a lot of horses are treated outside of the races and when they aren’t bringing in money. I don’t think all racing is bad and I think some owners, trainers and riders etc do love and care for their horses but there is a scary amount who don’t.

    The most impressive thing of all is that Alvarado, entering the final curve, only gives him a whiplash, right next to Jornalism, and as he passes him, he only guides him with the reins and his arms. Seeing that the horse is invincible, he congratulates him and pats him. What a connection between rider and horse!

    2:07- goosebumps when the announcer is quiet and suddenly ‘Journalism makes a decisive move’ and Sovereignty swings out to run him down. The titans have been released. Can’t imagine what it must have been like riding alongside those two powerhouse horses conserving their energy because man it was game on when they let them go.
    In every race I’ve seen of Sovereignty’s, he always looks like he’s having a blast when he’s running down the homestretch.
    Watch when his jockey stops using his whip, it’s sooner than you think.

Junior Alvarado: absolute class and so humble, a beautiful soul; he deserves that win. Was impressed with Rispoli at the end the way he patted Sovereignty and congratulated Junior. • @Escapechris24
      @Escapechris24 3 months ago

      @LayangSeto-lu1tc UMA is a reference to the anime Umamusume. An anime based on the Japanese circuit of race horses. Though American horses do exist in the world of Umamusume, it’s so fair only if they have raced in the Japanese circuit. Still! It’s always fun to imagine a Secretariat uma.

      It was the correct decision to skip given the shorter Belmont distance this year. I don't doubt this horse could have won the Belmont at Belmont Park at a mile-and-a-half as well as the Preakness, but any TC victory would always have an asterisk after it.

    Sovereignty as we see could have won the Triple Crown. Time for New York to give an extra week for Belmont. Would also also be good for business. Almost every sport gives the Final match up extra time. 👍

    • @ValleyoftheRogue
      @ValleyoftheRogue 5 months ago +4

      It would cheapen the feat. The Triple Crown is supposed to be tough to win. The shorter distance for this year's Belmont would have cheapened the feat if Sovereignty had run and won the Preakness.

    Congrats to Sovereignty. He was my choice even though I never bet. I do not know why though they could not race this race at Aqueduct, they ran races there in the 60s when Belmont was being renovated then. Having it at 1 1/4 miles makes it not a true Belmont

    • @stephenrblv
      @stephenrblv 5 months ago +3

      Alot of politics in the game now. They claim they do what they do for the horses but that is a cover. All of the decisions are about money and politics within the industry. Any horse can run in 2 weeks. The condition issue is a canard. The reason they skipped the Preakness has to do with finally getting Maryland racing to bend for the Blue Bloods. Same reason they moved this race out of the City when AQU was perfectly ready to handle a 12 panels dash.
      Kentucky has a billion dollar breeding industry to protect. That's what runs HR.

    People will second guess trainer Bill Mott, but suppose Sovereignty did win the Preakness and the Triple Crown. It wouldn't have meant as much this year because of the shorter distance of the Belmont. It was the right decision for Mott to do both tactically and for the sake of the horse.
