One of the first Cold Steel I bought is that knife. It's a great blade! Just as tough as it is pretty. As far as a self defense weapon, just the sight of it alone "will" get your attention! It works for you, is all that matters. It's one of my favorite big blades. Great review too!
I love mine. Have sharpened the top edge and main edge to a razors sharpness.
I've had mine for a couple of years now and I do love it. I put a 24 degree edge on it. So it will hold up better if I need to "Use" it :) It is made by Windlass Steel Craft of India, under contract for Cold steel. They have been making blades of all kinds for many years. My only beef with Windlass, is the stuff they make is not always sharpened well. You realize that in a knife fight, the winner is the guy who leaves the ER. That is what a DI told me years ago.
I remember Joseph Gatt used the Frontier Bowie to cut a man's skull open like a can opener in Z Nation.

The quality of steel in this knife is 100 times better than anything in the 17 or 1800's. In saying that, frontiersmen lived their whole lives using the Bowie Knife, in very adverse conditions.

I got two that I have had for years but they are the 1055 carbon versions and I been wanting to Upgrade to the 1085hc like you have ,it just a better steel especially when sharpen well ⚔️🎯💲🎯⚔️

It comes not so good to thick at cutting edge needs reground to be useful imo I have one it cuts now
To the person doing the review...if you want to lighten the color of the wood handle use some rubbing alcohol on it. The handle is dark because there is blueing on it. I did mine and it got the handle to a very nice rose color to it.

Why not carry a gun!!!!or learn some kali escrima techniques to better yourself with your cutting skills? Personally I don't feel comfortable walking down the street with my weapons exposed for all to see! In my state the only thing legal is pepper spray! BUT!!!! I don't let anyone know I have it on me!! Even though it is easily excessable for me and if used! It's going to work!!!
