I am not a fan of touch screen GPSs on an offroad motorcycle. We get dusty or mud splattered and a simple wipe of the screen can send a touch screen unit into disarray. If your riding style or terrain doesn't include dust or mud this may not be a concern.

I have never tried that. Seems like the battery would provide a buffer between the inconsistent voltage coming from the bikes charging system. Think of headlight flicker at low revs. Id be afraid of frying the GPS. Also it would suck because every time the bike stalled or was shut off the GPS would have to restart costing you a few minutes. Batteries are cheap.
Have you looked at Montana? If so, why did you choose GPSMAP over it? Thanks

Hi! On this review you said it wasn't waterproof, maybe i heard wrong? In the website says it's IPX7 which is waterproof? What are your thoughts?
Maybe I spoke incorrectly. I will have to go back and listen. It is definitely waterproof. It is actually a marine style GPS.

I agree it’s not the most inexpensive unit, especially for the technology, but I will only get an ADV gps with buttons. Not touch screen.
Can we use it without battery if we dock on the mount ?
