The date of its first habitation is unknown, but archaeological evidence suggests that it was first settled by sedentary populations between 4400 and 1600 BC. In the late fifteenth century, the Inca Emperor Huayna Capac defeated the Quitu, the region's original inhabitants, and incorporated Quito into the Inca Empire, designating it into the capital of the Inca Empire's northern region. The Spanish conquest of the city in 1534 is the date most frequently cited as the city's official founding, making Quito the oldest capital in South America.
Quito's historic center is among the largest and best-preserved in the Americas. In 1978, Quito and Kraków were the first World Cultural Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO. Quito is the capital city closest to the Equator, with its northern limits ending about 1 km (0.62 miles) south of the line.
In 2008, the city was designated as the headquarters of the Union of South American Nations.

@@zantiagocho 😁 vivo en Europa y ocurre lo mismo angelitos no es nadie, todos los políticos van a eso, los gobiernos que eligen son para tirar a la basura el país ha retrocedido en todo, da pena volver al país y ni ganas de invertir con la situación de pobreza que generan, no sean mamertos y por lo menos eligan los indigenas que tendrán más amor por la patria. Aún que tú preferirás seguir sin vías , con caminos destruidos y sin orden urbano ni progreso por que carreteras no dan de comer y el país quedó destruido y sin obras como te repiten en el discurso de siempre, si parece que el país quedó bombardeado😂
@@zantiagocho Vivo en Europa y todos los políticos van a lo mismo, te lo aseguro, pero los últimos 3 gobiernos que han elegido han hundido el país, más miseria y crisis son para tirarlos a la basura, ni ganas de volver al país ni invertir ahí por la situación, aunque tú preferirás seguir viviendo sin vías como en pasado polvorientas, destruidas sin desarrollo por que el discurso del odio te han dicho que carreteras no se come, si parece que el gobierno que las hizo dejó bombardeado el país😂, eligan indígenas que por lo menos creo aman más a la patria y no van a USA con los botines.
