- Short video of my first amateur radio contact with the International Space Station (NA1SS) !! Needless to say, I was blessed to be able to capture this on video...I just happened to pick them up on scan on the 2m downlink frequency of 145.800 MHz.
I believe the astronaut was Serena Auñón-Chancellor (KG5TMT).
My station setup:
Radio: Yaesu FTM-100D
Power: 50W
Antenna: Comet GP-9 (omnidirectional) @ 40ft ht.
Incredible. It still blows my mind that we have people living in space. And even more that we can contact them from our homes / shacks
Indeed!
Congrats. Think i would've had to change my pants after that one lol. Thanks for sharing. K9kfx.
Thanks...! I must admit, I did the happy-dance a few times. 73 de KM4VAD.

This is Legal?
Yep!
Yes
Is it UHF or VHF bug
Just wondering if a pl tone is required?
Steve Deimler ...negative. You have to run you radio in split mode though. Uplink (transmit) freq is 144.490.

Steve ke6doa here , fell out of the hobby for the last 8 years..
Just picking things back up.
just ordered a DB18 from steppIR, but its a month out yet.
in the mean time i would really like to make contact with the ISS.. years ago i did talk with MIR.
what freq's do i use, and how to tell when to listen..etc etc ...
Howdy Steve...program a split memory into your radio where you listen on 145.800 and transmit on 144.490. Keep that memory in the memory scan where it will always be in the scan list. The times I’ve heard the ISS were unplanned, but I picked them up on scan.
Ghost Rider That’s a good idea I’ll program that into my scanner
