Everyone was like nagisa trained her ass off for everything and for ayano was like most of her shit came from talent. They'd had no idea what she'd been through and how broken she was so I wanted her to win but Fuck!
Yeah, adaptation did not do any favors for Ayano. Apparently in the manga, Ayano gets serious, but her flaws are from immaturity rather than others pushing her over the deep end. Manga Connie is not a raging b$tch, and does try to be a good friend and treat Ayano as a sister without ever insinuating her mom replaced her. Anime kinda made us want to root for Ayano getting revenge, and then denied the audience to uphold the hard work and friendship message, which really felt tone deaf in the face of how Ayano got treated.
People donʻt understand that Ayano has been practically training in Badminton since she was 2 years old. It got to the point where when she was playing the rallying game with her mom Ayano cut her head and was bleeding but they still kept playing. Think about that from 2 years old to what 2nd year in middle school was non stop Badminton but Nagisa working hard for her HS career is OP. GTFO! Everyone who read the manga knows her winning was just for character development for Ayano and total plot armor for Nagisa. I knew what would happen but I wanted her to go black mamba and tell the crowd to STFU lol
Personally I thought Ayano would've won, considering when she goes berserk that's when her best playtime shows. She's berserk but she's got control when she plays, just not emotionally controlled. Her smashes are strong too, they don't go out but just inside the house. But when she can't read the opponent's movement that's when she loses her play. :

An anime ending never angered me so much. The coach favored Nagisa over Ayano simply because he could relate to her. He even privately trained her and prioritized her training over everyone else in the damn club. He even was made aware of the fact of why Ayano stopped playing Badminton and still pushed her to play along with her tone deaf ass friend who literally has been friends since what elementary and HAD to have known why Ayano quit or atleast had a understanding of why. Everyone always insinuated that Nagisa worked harder than Ayano and that Ayano was simply gifted/talented 🙄. Like Ayano has been playing since she was a fucking Baby/Toddler and I know damn well Nagisa hasn’t been training for that long. I wanted ayano to win bruh but I knew and had a keen feeling that these niggas were gonna pull the good ole “friend and feelings 🥺” bullshit. Fuck Nagisa if Ayano had won I would’ve wanted Ayano to spit in her face cause she deserved it. Along with her bum ass “friend” whom reopened her traumatized wounds and put her back in a environment where she would fall back into the same obsessed badminton player. Ayano wasn't mentally stable at that time and was on the verge of discarding everything and everyone else, to the point that she was starting to get full of herself thinking that she could do everything by herself. This is exactly what led Ayano into losing as she thought that she could beat Nagisa in a battle of power despite being aware of her inferior physique and the disadvantages of playing outside her usual playstyle. Nagisa was fully aware of this fact and took this as an advantage and further dragged Ayano into playing into her own domain. She knows and even admitted in the manga that it was a very lucky win.
