He had nothing to do with: *The Steroid Scandal *The Pat Patterson Scandal *NBC cancelling Saturday night main event *Hulk Hogan, Macho, Ultimate Warrior, LOD, Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper, British Bulldog & The Mountie all leaving within a few months of each other *TV ratings, PPV & Merch sales hitting a 20 year low in 1993 (WAY before he was champion) & continuing till the attitude era... It's like getting into a car crash & blaming the passenger. Nearly all of those things I just mentioned happened before he was even employed by them... WWF had to do the best with what they had & considering Vince's fetish for "big guys" in a post steroid industry, "big" now meant tall or fat (hence Nash, Yoko & Mabel main events)... Honestly I shutter to think where the company would have ended up WITHOUT Nash...

It should be noted he was not only the first member of the Kliq to become the WWF Champion but became the first guy since Hulk Hogan to successfully retain a WWF Championship at WrestleMania.

I 100% agree that fans are paying for the whole production from A-to-Z - the matches including undercard, the dark match, the pyro, the lights and music. The WWF product post WM9 was atrocious. And while I’m biased as the Hogan-era, IMO, is unmatched, the New Generation-era is probably the worst, up until now....
I'm no big Nash fan(even though i could listen to his shoot interviews for hours) but what you said about the whole drawing thing is absolutely spot on. It's funny how when everyone rags on Nash or Bret or HBK or anyone in the New Generation era, no one mentions that despite the star power in WCW it wasnt exactly doing great business either

Nash did what was best for Nash. That being said he was loyal to his buddies and was give the helm of a sinking ship in WCW. He was a alright worker for a big man and I don't blame the man using the business to get himself over and make sure he got his paydays.
Considering he had leg injuries that ended his basketball career and still had enough left to be a pro wrestler for another 15 or whatever years before he had another leg issue I definitely respect his career.

Bear in mind a lot of the New York crowd at Diesel's MSG win were veteran WWWF/Capitol fans who didn't appreciate Backlund going back to his last days as babyface champion in 1983 and in some cases still resented his win over Graham from back in 1978.

I liked Diesel. When he won the title I was 14. I was a mark at the time I thought wrestling was legit. With that mindset he looked badass. He looked like he could batter every wrestler in a street fight. And TBF He was booked like that. Royal rumble 94, survivor series 94. Then he wins the title. A draw with Bret at RR made no business sense. He should’ve beaten Bret with a jackknife. Then when Bret wins the title at SS. It means more as Bret is a bigger underdog having already lost earlier in the year. Diesel was booked so badly, there was no way that dispel would’ve gotten over as champ.
So what i got out of this video is that as long as he was with somebody to carry him on the ring he had great matches but when it was time for him to carry somebody else on the ring the matches suck

Diesel was actually the reason I started watching The WWF again. I'm more a WCCW, NWA and then WCW fan. I went back and forth because of Taker, Austin & The Rock.

I just had a thought. They should've put Diesel against Razor for the WWF title at least once on PPV in 95. It would've been guaranteed money. King of the ring would've been the perfect spot instead of Mabel. A Bam Bam match up could've also worked.

The problem in 95 was the 5 most popular guys in WWF at the time (Undertaker, Diesel, Razor, HBK, and Bret Hart) were all faces. They should have had long term feuds with each other.
The period he was champ in WWE was a shitshow. It wouldn't have mattered who was champ at that time, I don't believe. People that rip on his work style etc need to understand that work style is usually irrelevant, as long as they draw money. The fact he had a good look, was great on the mic & a smart business man is what made him what he was, & is always trump vs wrestling ability. Anyone that appreciates smart talent needs to realize this man, plus Scott Hall, are the main reasons guaranteed money became a common thing in pro wrestling. Even if he never wrestled, getting the talent a guaranteed pay wage much outweighs anything else he could have accomplished within the ring. The man's a legend to me....he was a great "performer", a trailblazer when it came to getting the boy's paid, & someone who wasn't afraid to speak his mind & back it up.

Nobody drew in diesel era hogan was gone it was the occupation gimmick new gen era I loved it razor n diesel were my favs n I followed them to WcW. Everyone mentions how Nash was the lowest drawing WWF champion ever yet always leave out that Bret hart didn't draw either.
For all his faults, Nash had great attention to storyline detail, a lot of the early nWo came from him thinking carefully about what would make sense. He was all about the money, but knew that giving fans a great show was the best way to get it.
NASH is given an extra hard time BC oF his personality & BC he's a politician. BUT, DIESEL was 'OVER' in 94... HE was ALSO Booked worse than ANY WWF CHAMPION up to that point. DIESEL shoulda won the BELT on RAW after a little build up. Booking youR NEW Top Babyface in his 1st Title defense against youR other most OVER Babyface who was last seen getting screwed outta the belt. WMXI -- Not even in the main event ( last match HBK buried him psychology wise. YOU can't out athletic A Big Man like that w/out burying the guy. In the 90s, if the WWF was on I was watching it. So how have I never heard a single thing about these quad jokes about Diesel? Never knew anything about it til this video. Surely I haven't killed that many brain cells....
The problem in 95 was the 5 most popular guys in WWF at the time (Undertaker, Diesel, Razor, HBK, and Bret Hart) were all faces. They should have had long term feuds with each other.
The period he was champ in WWE was a shitshow. It wouldn't have mattered who was champ at that time, I don't believe. People that rip on his work style etc need to understand that work style is usually irrelevant, as long as they draw money. The fact he had a good look, was great on the mic & a smart business man is what made him what he was, & is always trump vs wrestling ability. Anyone that appreciates smart talent needs to realize this man, plus Scott Hall, are the main reasons guaranteed money became a common thing in pro wrestling. Even if he never wrestled, getting the talent a guaranteed pay wage much outweighs anything else he could have accomplished within the ring. The man's a legend to me....he was a great "performer", a trailblazer when it came to getting the boy's paid, & someone who wasn't afraid to speak his mind & back it up.
Not gonna lie. I was kinda hoping you'd go into the fake Diesel shenanigans just to show how petty the business was back than. But I like how you're doing this in 2 videos. One for his time in the WWF and one for his time in WCW.

Nobody drew in diesel era hogan was gone it was the occupation gimmick new gen era I loved it razor n diesel were my favs n I followed them to WcW. Everyone mentions how Nash was the lowest drawing WWF champion ever yet always leave out that Bret hart didn't draw either.

For all his faults, Nash had great attention to storyline detail, a lot of the early nWo came from him thinking carefully about what would make sense. He was all about the money, but knew that giving fans a great show was the best way to get it.
