Never thought I’d see the day where a, mainly, Doctor Who channel reviews a tokusatsu project. Funny how your mind can forget there are people who have the exact same interests as you. But hey I’m not complaining, always love seeing Japanese monsters get attention, especially in the UK where this sort of media is known just as well as most lost media .
I never thought you would say the words Kamen rider, super Sentai and tokusatsu
God bless you fellow. Just for the record "Geed" is pronounced like it's spelled "Gee-d". Same with Belial, he is named after on of the Catholic's seven princes of hell
Is the "g" sound like "guide" of like "geometry"?
@@superpowers1448 Geometry and Gene.
@@1001johny Thanks!
I had to do the biggest double take when I saw a video on this channel discussing ultraman, talk about unexpected
Riku: Try to put an end to his father evil voyage
Bandai: Are you sure about that?
Man, the deep rooted sarcasm in this one is brilliant. Honestly, bravo for trying to cover one of Ultra shows that really didn’t seem your thing. If you ever did want to get into this show properly, Ultra Q would be way more up your alley.
Believe me, this will not have been the last Ultra show I make him watch
@@Valtharr Should probably get him to review one of the older series like Tiga or Gaia. Or Ultraseven (especially since you can draw a few parallels to Dr Who which this channel is about).
@@Valtharr I myself had a few in mind for him to review down the line
@@daggertoothclaw4242I only watched New Generation stuff so far, and am honestly not really in a hurry to watch Heisei or Showa stuff
@@DanTheMan2150ADmaybe you can go for some Heisei or Showa stuff then 😅
I mean if you want to continue watching ultraman content here’s a few heavy hitters in the franchise
Ultraman Gaia
Ultraman Z (aka zett)
Ultraman Nexus
Ultraseven
I could go on and on about ultraman but id be writing a novel at this point😅
It's basically like doctor franchise it's long breaks and and with the anniversary and featuring older returning characters so yeah you'll enjoy it
Aww, i thought the monster designs were pretty cool, especially the belial fusions. They're all 2 seperate legacy monsters combined together in a pretty interesting way beyond just sticking parts from one onto the other
Clichés aren't necessarily a bad thing if they're well put together. It's sort of how I feel about Wolfenstein New Order. It doesn't really do anything new, but what it does do is just so well executed
Honestly instead of an eva reference "crisis impact" more reminds me of DC comic books, where "crisis events" are usually stories that cause some large change in the status quo of the multiverse (basically canonical reasons to ret-con and reboot a bunch of stuff and make it more accessible for future writers and readers while also giving existing readers a great climactic finale)
Though it might also just be a reference to both
So sad this video got such little attention cause this is amazing
Really enjoyed this video. As a longtime Ultraman fan I really find your view insightful. Here’s some recommendations if your interested in watching more of the series:
Ultra Q(1966)
Ultraman (1966)
Ultraseven(1967)
Return of Ultraman(1971)
Ultraman Tiga(1996) + the final odyssey movie
Ultraman Nexus+ the next(2004) - watch the next first as nexus follows right after.
Ultraman Mebius (2006)
And if you want to see more of Belial watch “Ultra Galaxy Legends: Mega Monster Battle the movie” and “Ultraman Zero: the revenge of Belial”
Funnily enough Ultraman is basically Japanese Doctor who.
Starts off in the 1960s
An alien fights bad aliens for humans
A militarized unit helps fight against the bad aliens
The show would incorporate other characters in a multi crossover episodes
Last Classic era was in 1980s
There was an a show and movie catered to American audience which isn't as popular
Revival series starts with Heisei Ultra
Tiga is a reintroduction to the Ultra series the same way the Ninth Doctor run
Trivia
in Return of Ultraman, Man and Seven human forms are reintroduce and meet up with Jack, mirroring the Three Doctors
In Taro, Five Ultra brothers appeared as their human forms to Taro, mirroring the Five Doctors
in 2008-2009 there's a few multi crossover specialq movies, mirrors Day of the Doctor (2013)
You could even argue that the relationship between Ultra and Host is a little like the relationship between Doctor and Companion.
But no joke, I actually like to describe Ultraman as "a mix between Power Rangers (transforming hero), Godzilla (giant monsters), Doctor Who (huge, expansive scifi universe; regularly changing main characters, one of which is an alien), and a dash of Yu-Gi-Oh (the host/ultra dynamic vs the Yugi/Pharaoh dynamic)"
I never knew this was a thing, though it was great to hear about this. Though, I knew about Ultraman as Netflix has an animated series on it and i thought it was a stand alone thing. Thanks for teaching me something new 😁
Is he calling Geed "Geeda"?
Honestly to fully enjoy the series, I would recommend watching the Mega Monster Battle/ Ultraman Zero movies cuz it explains alot of the backstory involved in this show
seeing the POV of an outsider to the Ultraman series is interesting, especilly considering your views on the ultras themselves
Didn't Zero already have his show?
that wasn't really a "proper" season, more a series of movies, and also Leito wasn't there
Even until now, I am still frustrated by the fact that the Ultras that visited Earth easily accepted Geed as a heroic Ultra when it's so obvious that he is the son of their greatest enemy Belial.
There's not a single bit of animosity towards Geed and I think that Zero should have at least bring him to the Land of the Light (the resident planet of the Ultramen from the prime timeline) for questioning rather than staying on Earth for 26 episodes
geed opening still haunts my head to this day
Took you a year for this? Is the patreon member who commissioned this still alive? Lol.
