I got my start sewing Medieval Clothing, since the rectangles and triangles make so much more sense to me than modern patterns.
These days I focus on the 1860's-1890's, because of my work as a Historical Interpreter.
This video combines both of my loves! I'm super excited to try this pattern and return to my roots, while also representing one of my other favorite time periods. ❤
Thank you so much! And for finally clarifying why the Aesthetes were called Aesthetes. It never even entered my brain that the main difference between them and the dress reformists was a focus on the appearance, or Aesthetics, of their dress rather than the practicality of it.
Sometimes you just need to be knocked over the head with knowledge before something obvious is understood. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I can't believe it took me so long. *Laughs*😂
    Thanks again!

Yeah I think I've read a dozen articles on the subject and not one says it out loud 😅 I think people get bogged down on which a specific garment is and then forget about the why the different groups wore them in the first place!

This is a favourite topic of mine since I read about it in a 1960s German costume History. I sure hope I manage to pull myself together and sew one myself

This dress would look great with tabard, some Asthetic dress also have tabard belt thingy. Similar style of dresses was made by Mariano Fortuny in 1920s.

I can understand the lack of pockets in the aesthetic dress. I can understand the medieval version being worn with a belt from which to hang external pockets.
But no hidden pockets makes me feel like the only thing being reformed here is a woman's anti social tenancy of carrying weapons with which to dissuade an artist more intent on the model than the art they promised to create.

You wouldn't carry your hat pin in your pocket anyways 😜
