    Thank you. Thank you! THANK YOU! I purchased the same 8 Track cassette twice. First one I opened and tried to rewind I ended up ruining the tape. When I got the same tape the second time my player ate it. Determined not to loose out twice, I found your video and was successful in saving the cassette. 😉

    Okay Mr. Fancy Schmancy "splice block" which side does the splice tape go on? The outside where the tape head can read it or on the inside where you can't see it? I got me a humdinger on Ebay that's repairing everybody's tapes this way and we're running into heaps of trouble here with tracks sounding funny.

    • @8trackfm

      The foil splice goes on the side of the tape that contacts the head. Sorry I am just responding now (a month later), I am just now seeing your comment.

    I didn't quite catch what you said about your source for the new pads. Is it a standard 8-track replacement part, or is this something you're getting from Home Depot or a hobby store?

    • @8trackfm
      @8trackfm  2 года назад +1

      The pads used here are from weather strip. I don't remember where I bought this but as long as the weather strip isn't too stiff, any brand from any hardware store will work. The softer the material is the better. You can also use quarter inch thick sponge cut into quarter inch width. If you are looking for proper pre made pads, you can try 8trackavenue.com

    Is there any reason why I have to open the tape to replace the pressure pad? Is it bad to just cut a pad into two pieces and put them in place? That's what I've been doing when the cart is finicky and I can't get it open. Just cut and stick it on.

    • @8trackfm
      @8trackfm  2 года назад

      Sorry for the late reply. I hadn't received any notification of your comment. Anyway, I don't think it's overly necessary to open the cart to change the pressure pads. Your way also works too. I have changed pads with the same process that you have mentioned

    • @jasonw6688
      @jasonw6688 2 года назад

      If you get a pair of snap ring pliers from the hardware store, they'll open up any cart. I got a pair and it's an absolute life-saver. The carts with the 5-clips were a major pain and the ones that are glued shut were impossible, but after getting that tool, it's now smooth sailing.

    Do you know why one of my 8track tapes is worbly? It goes in and out of tune and speeds up and slows down. I’ve tested other 8 tracks and they sound fine, so it leads me to think it’s a problem with that specific 8 track tape and not the 8 track player.

    • @8trackfm
      @8trackfm  2 года назад +1

      Sounds like your tape is wound too tight. This happens often when the fast forward function is used on players equipped with this. If you are able to play the tape up to the foil splice, do so. Once the track change occurs, pull the cartridge out of your machine. You will then have to take the cartridge apart. Once you have opened the cartridge, you will need to cut the tape at the splice, then pull some tape from the center of the hub (I'd say 6-8 inches), then either tape the two ends back together with scotch tape (applying tape to the back side aka graphite side of the tape). Then start pulling the tape again from the center of the spool which will start winding the tape back onto the hub. If you should have any difficulties with this please let me know and I will gladly post a video of this process.

    So here's a dumb question from someone who is new to this: When I opened up my broken tape I only found one cut end. Where and how do I find the other end?

    • @8trackfm
      @8trackfm  4 месяца назад +1

      It will likely be tucked in at the center of the hub. There are two methods of retrieving this end of the tape. One, using a toothpick at the center of the hub to pull the end of the tape up. Or two, if you have an empty cartridge wind the tape onto the empty reel but make sure you leave some of the tape sticking up as when you transfer the tape back to the original reel you will be feeding the original reel from this area of tape. I will make a video on this process over the weekend
