We've just started with level 1 A with my 8yo. He hated writing last year, so far he is loving this and he told me he likes Andrew Pudewa. We use Fix it Grammar with it, and read the recommended books. So far so good! My kid looks forward to the videos. What I do is pre-watch the video Sunday night so that I can help him on Monday and Tuesday in case he misunderstands something. Also that paper with that weeks plan, as you mentioned, does keep you on track for the rest of the week.
Hi Melissa! I will have a 7th and 4th grader this coming Fall. Which level did you choose for them? I know I want to start with 1A for my daughter, but not sure with my son. He needs to really go back to the basics. Wasn't sure if I should put him in 2A or bring him down to 1A? Also, I know this is a writing and grammar curriculum. I know they have spelling you can use too, but is this also a reading curriculum or do you need to get that separately?
We are doing this with my teen daughter as well! She is week 3 and loving it! Trying out one of the theme based programs iew has for my son, he is a reluctant writer but is taking to this approach as well.
Thanks for this! We just did day one with my fifth grader! At first he was not thrilled but it went really smooth and did not take that much time definitely felt all the feelings of overwhelm but just pushing the play button and reading the notes it really is laid out simple and easy… now I just got a learn how to file everything😂
Yes mama we too do a 4 day school week, mamas have things they got to do too! On the weekends we head out in trailer we leave Thursday night so this helps too so I’m not worried about school
This is really helpful for me. I decided to finally jump in to IEW with my seventh grader. We tried the good and the beautiful last year and master books and I really like the good and the beautiful but I think he needs a little more structure. Do you recommend doing IEW along with the good and the beautiful? Or is that just too much?
Hey mama!! Great video as always. Did you ever find this to be to much for your 7th grader? We stated year 1 level A at the end of 8th/working on through summer and I thought about jumping to year 1 level B for 9th grade. We used the TGATB and just felt like there was a huge gap in writing that’s partly started why I started my son at the lower level but I’m not sure if I should stay the path or move to year 1 b..
How did this go Jamie?? My concern is the length of the videos…. We are “short and sweet” homeschoolers. Meaning my kids thrive off short lessons. But I really need to do some formal writing with my upcoming 8th and 6th grader. One is a natural writer and one is a reluctant writer. IEW is at the top of my list. Would love to know how you liked or didn’t like this!!
Hey there, Elaine! We are still using and working our way through IEW. We thrive off shorter lessons over here, too. However, this has been worth it. My two older boys sit and watch the video together on Mon/Tues and then complete their assignment throughout the rest of the week. We are moving through it at our own pace. I am very glad we brought this into our home and have seen many benefits from doing so! One boy enjoys the video and the other does not...but sometimes, that's ok! 💜 Hope that helps! 🤗
How do you fit it in with unit study homeschooling such as Campfire who claims it's all you need for your high schooler to gain hs credit, except for math? My 9th grader needs serious help with writing. Don't think Campfire can give him that
? I'm planning to use it with my two girls that will be in 4th and 5th grade next school year do you know if I have to purchase two package books or will it one for both?
Hi, I want to start my 11th grader in the fall. We have never used IEW where do you think we should start? Also which level fix it grammer as well. We used fix it grammer a few years ago level 1
Interesting as I avoided this for soooo long for all the reasons you said and am actually testing the free 3 week trial of it right now. I’m still torn a bit as to what we will do. Will you be using this along with just gather Round? or is there any other language arts that you will do with them?
Lesson times vary! The video days for our family are the longest. The video portion can be 30-40 minutes, sometimes shorter. The writing portion is based on your kiddo and their work speed! Thank for watching! 😊
@@SimplyLivingIt thanks so much for responding. We are planning on implementing this next year and I was thinking I would use it on its own (or with fix it grammar)
I’m just curious how you stretch it out for a full year if it’s a 24 week program. I’m interested in purchasing this for my girls for our first homeschooling year. Any advice would help!
Hey friend! Everyone does it differently. For us, we easily can stretch it out and make a year out of it given co-op, work schedules, etc. It works perfect for our season of life!
My 7th grader did SO good! I am actually totally impressed with how he grew... both of them, really! They weren't always happy or excited about doing it, but Mama, they grew in many ways with their writing! ❤️

My fourth grader just started this year. I think it’s one of his favorite subjects and he is not a writer!! 💜💜
My 7th grader started using IEW this year and he is loving it!
Super helpful!!!!❤
We are going to be doing this for my 9th grader this year and I am excited! We already love their Fix It Grammar!!
My 7th and 4th grader are doing the structure and style this year. We’re on week 4. They are loving it so far!

I’ve been interested in IEW for awhile. Thank you for sharing this! It looks like an amazing curriculum! What grade level does it start at?

This was so helpful. Did you purchase the teaching writing structure and style training course as well?
I'm so glad you found it helpful! I did not purchase the teaching course. 😊

Could you use these DVDs with the US History writing course?

I’m still torn a bit as to what we will do. Will you be using this along with just gather Round? or is there any other language arts that you will do with them?
How long is an average days lesson? Thanks!
Yes!! I’m curious about this as well!

I know this is an older video, but can you tell me-are you using this alongside another language arts curriculum or by itself? Thanks! 😊
Hey there! I did not use it along another language arts curriculum. We found it to be plenty when used alongside Fix It Grammar.❤️

do you think a 9 yo and 12 yo would be able to do it together? (respectively 3rd and 6th grade)
I think it would depends on the kids and the level for sure! I know that's not super helpful...but in some cases, most definitely.
Did you buy 2 packets? Or just make copies for the second child?
We got two packets. 😊
How long are the videos? And are they every day? Thanks
The videos typically have a part 1 and a part 2. Then, they use the rest of the week to work on the project of the week. ❤️
Never mind I see it now
Thanks
