Bit late to the party but using a Scalpel or cutting the fur backing with a small pair of scissors navigating through the pile creates less mess to clean up in the end! Also means that you don't get an uneven pile poking through the seams! If possible trim the fur pile to the backing in the seams too, makes for a less bulky seam and your machine won't fight it ^^ End result looks super cute!
OMG it's even reversible. I. ABSOLUTELY. LOVE. IT But I'm curious about a thing, the measures are for a big head or just small ones? Because I usually wear size 58 for hats

I made it and I would say for a big head because mine is 56 cm round and the hat fits pretty big !
