Growing up in the 90s we had alot of these kind of 70s PSA films we had to watch in class. This one gave me that same warm fuzzy feeling. The music helped to especially in the end.

I feel sorry for younger kids who didnt get to experience the rich supply of educational animation that we did. That & many a live action reel teaching us about everything from planetary motion to WWII history Before Amazon & RUclips it was very difficult to find any of it on VHS or DVD for children growing up in the 90s & early 2000s. Back then the Schoolhouse Rock collection was all I could give mine. Lol! :)
I like that it didn't have a disciplinary, finger wagging conclusion. That simply alienates drinkers. This encourages one to search for the root of their own personal problem. It is, in fact, empowering.

that assumes people are equal. There are some people who will make a self-indulgent harmful choice every time they can regardless of help. They don't need help, they are low quality and shouldn't be in society. I used to be a heavy drinker and what helped me was giving up on strong liquor, like vodka. When I could only drink beer, i would still get drunk, but i would usually feel too full to drink anymore. Not so with spirits. You can drink that til the cows come home, and you'll end up waking up somewhere you don't remember going to sleep in. Anyway, when i only drank beer, i got drunk a lot slower and so it was easier to manage. Now, i drink maybe once a month, and never to get hammered. Quit spirits first! I think it really works.
I quit altogether. I admire how you were able to minimize it and still enjoy. I'm ok with it completely out of my life. Bur you are right...Spirts really are bottomless.
wow, as a struggling alcoholic i found this helpful, believe it or not, I started smoking heroin around 2020 for the first time in my life, giving that up was easy compared to quitting alcohol, what a curse, my moms father used to waste his entire check on alcohol and died at 40, im 54 now, and and really starting to feel the wrong effects of alcohol, anyway, women do not absorb or assimilate alcohol like men do, its genetics differences', the ending should have had him stand up and walk away from the bottle. peace and love always. . . Update! Im now 62 days sober!
9:05 is very true. I was bad to the point that I had to drink. Otherwise, the withdrawals would come... Those shakes are the worst....alcohol withdrawal is like dying without actually dying. A year and 2 months sober, and I don't miss drinking, and it's really cool that I found this!
@MatthewChristianMurray thank you. I'm gonna be 36 in February, This came out waaaay before I was born let alone develop an alcohol addiction but this still holds up. The info is pretty much still useful today...it's just the place I went to to sagely stop my withdrawals was called a detox clinic...a week away from the world...they keep you for a week...no phone no nothing, they Locke that up safely for you. You stay there...eat really good food *at least the one I went too* and basically recover...the first 2 days were hell but then you start to feel better. It's not easy and as long as om alive I will never be out of the woods...but I got tired of it...the withdrawals, the puking, the comas, the wasting my life away. I'm still very anti social which is probably another reason how I found myself here. But I feel so much better without it. Like they say one day at a time.
The thing is, you can actually die from alcohol withdrawal. You can have seizures and die. Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs to withdraw from and anyone experiencing them should consider seeking medical treatment
I got sick, sick on some sake two days ago because the restaurant didn't serve bourbon or whiskey...I threw up really bad and had to stay in bed for the whole day... I've given up drinking and vaping
My best friend died on my birthday a few months ago. He drank since he was a young teen. It destroyed his kidneys, and heart. His kidneys failed, and he had a heart attack. He refused to eat much for over a year. It caused such severe gout often he couldn’t even move, and it was very painful. The shakes were so bad, he couldn’t do anything. His memory was so pitiful, I heard the same stories every day for years. This disease is so debilitating, and devastating it’s beyond tragic. He tried to seek therapy, and medical attention in the last few months but by then it was too late. He had just celebrated his 50th birthday a few months prior. Losing him is so heartbreaking, and I can’t stand it. I tried so hard to help him for years, and it’s agony knowing nothing worked. A person can have all the support they need but they have to want recovery. You have to save yourself. Nobody can make you, or do it for you. Quitting cold turkey could kill you, and there has to be a treatment in place. You cannot do this in any other way. You have to monitor your health thoroughly, and look for any complications or risk factors. It takes rehab. It takes therapy. It takes many doctor visits. It takes medication. It takes time, and determination. But you can do this! I believe in you! No better time than the present. Let Today be the first day, of the rest of your best life.🫶🏻
I was learning about "love has won" a cult that was run by a severe alchoholic. Really interesting how the folowers rationalized all the symptoms of alchoholism. She died and they still dont see it. The cult just keeps going. :/ i wish we didnt joke around about alchoholism.
I'm a binge drinker myself, at least that's how therapists label me, and I can really appreciate what I believe your message is. I've hurt many people, some times I can recall, other's I can't. Yet through it all, in spite of all the signs of how I can become a completely different person that can hurt those they care about or even love through my actions, I often choose the clearly wrong decision. I have felt addiction on some level since just before 6th grade. I don't believe in fate but I feel we are still coaxed a certain way by genetics and the environment we grow in. But addiction is a choice, i believe, just one that is harder to overcome or more likely to experience for some. But yes, we addicts can lie as easily to others as ourselves, a fact I wish I learned sooner, or better, since I fall in the same cycles every so often taking those who I care for and who care for me with me. All drugs are dangerous tools that can destroy or create, though some are more helpful or hurtful, and everyone is different in how they interact with those tools should they choose to use them. Alcohol has been a more bittersweet chemical friend than others I've found, but she's clingy and hard to shake in my experience. Regardless of anything I've said in this rant, I do hope you never experience addiction and I wasn't offended by anything you said, I was just so inclined to give my say on the matter as well.

I know quite a few functioning alcoholics, one of whom fortunately recently celebrated 1 year sober. It was something I never noticed while at work, because I imagine he, like most of my coworkers, hides it really well.
There is no functionaning alcohol. Every that consumes it has a problem. It's responsible for 3 million deaths. Second most addictive next to fentinol. It's kills more people than heoin and fentol
Interesting there’s no mention of drinking and driving. This video was made in 1975, and I think MADD was founded 5 years later. Until then most people ignored the danger or didn’t take it seriously enough.

Have a friend who finally gave up the drink after a DUI or was it a DWI? After that he lost his license to drive. He had to hit rock bottom in order to get sober. Poor Elephant... He would pull out his hair if he realized that alcohol was the least of our problems now, what with fentanol, meth, etc. :(
That DUI was probably the best thing to happen to him. I'm sober now but drank heavy for 30 years. I somehow always stayed out of trouble and looking back I think something like a DUI in my 20s may have inspired me to quit much earlier and saved me from a lot of issues and bad decisions later on.
You could learn a lot from the comments section too. Take it from someone who was a functional drunk from age 18 to 38, age 33-38 years nearly killed me, now sober going on 10 years.
This is a very good explanation! I never took a liking to alcohol, but it's a good reminder that anything that we develop an unhealthy dependency on can easily become an addiction and lead to demise.
Got pulled over when i was 19 in idaho (early 2000s). They found a roach in my car. No jail, but lots of probation and community service. When i had my drug and alcohol assessment, by a "professional" he concluded that i was also an alcoholic. The problem was, i had told him, honestly, that i had never had a drop in my life. I asked him why he thinks i am an alcoholic and he just said the "scoring system is kinda weird." I had to go to aa as part of my sentence. Wtf. I have never had any faith in "professionals" since then.

My dad was a really heavy drinker. From when I was little to eighteen years old. What really made me upset was when he dated another addict. Now, if my dad met someone who stayed sober, and he got his footing and went to college or trade school, or got a job. I wouldn't have been mad at him. But, what makes me more irate was when I was in Highschool and the counseler and vice principal told me to. "Stay out of my dad's personal life." And what they meant was his "love life." Not his addiction, or his career, or getting him sober. So, what life? I always wondered if other kids were told that.
Why were you mad he dated another addict? She didn't make him drink and I can promise you that being with someone sober doesn't lead to sobriety. I've been sober for a long time, my husband isn't. MY best friend has never drank or done drugs but her husband of 15 years still uses.
I feel ya "kid", trust me I do...Not only as an alcohol abuser/user myself, but as someone whose own Father did not "handle" his booze very well**...Of course I'm pretty certain he did NOT hook up with another addict like YOUR Dad did, but his alcohol use/abuse fueled SHITLOADS of shouting matches, lesser amount of beatings, and LOTS of broken objects throughout the house, and neighbors next door over 20 feet away complaining of the noise. Also 2 D.U.I.s as well, combined with lectures and brow AND body beatings NOT to drink or smoke.....ANYTHING, never mind just cigarettes....Oh, and of course mandatory church attendance to make me even MORE "Holy"🙄👹🙉🙊🙈 (Christianity and substance abuse/use NOT a good evangelizing tool!!😈👿) ** My Father had parents that were VERY HEAVY drinkers and. BOTH of their deaths at age 49 is proof enough of THAT!! (Though to cut them some "slack", also were VERY HEAVY cigarette smokers.🙄) My MOTHER on the other hand, came from a family that did NOT drink...They apparently didn't even KNOW how to SPELL "booze"...."Smart(ER) Midwest GERMANS?????🙄 However when I was growing up, she DID drink WINE, and her being SMALL, female, and hailing from a NON DRINKING background, made her a "LIGHTWEIGHT"....VERY light weight, and her own alcohol intoxication contributed to those fights that made the scenes in "Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolfe" (starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) quite TAME by comparison. PS If you see that counselor again, let him know Jebidiah said for YOU to say to her/him: "YOU WERE FULL OF SHIT ASSHOLE" Or if THAT is too harsh, "gently" ask: "Uh, WHY did you get into guidance counseling again? Tell me it was NOT your first choice of careers....."

I was 9 when this came out. And an alcoholic by the end of the next 9. Sober 18+ yrs. now... Thanks to a lot of good people. I'm well aware and grateful beyond words to be one of the very few out there who not only escaped Alcoholism, but a bad heroin addiction as well.... I really shouldn't be here...

I found out(in adulthood) that my father was and is an alcoholic. I have never drank in my life. Im glad i made the decision to stay alcohol free because i may have had issues like my father.
It’s so crazy that we’ve known so much about alcoholism and addiction for so long, yet we still send people with this disease to prisons and punish them. Addicts and alcoholics are still treated like trash and alienated. I wish more people could understand, but I guess it’s almost impossible to understand if you’ve never experienced it. I hit rock bottom 9 years ago and I am over 8 years sober now.
I'm sober now but was a full blown alcoholic for 30 years. I wish I was punished more for it, maybe I would have quit earlier and saved myself a lot of grief. Drunks are treated like trash because they usually are and I was no exception.
I gotta admit this video from 1975 is freaking incredible. Spot on. And, this is how long our doctors and psychology people have known about this. And, still to the day it's the same story. And the recommendations are the same. Extremely spot on. There's no two ways about it.
This was surprisingly balanced. Most of the big anti alcohol groups have switched in to full neo prohibitionist mode by now. A more recently made video would have the elephant ask "In the last month have you drank and enjoyed it? If so you are a drunk. Check in to treatment now and have your Dr. prescribe some antidepressants immediately! " If you are regularly missing work because you drink to much, you might well have a problem. Now they say if you have a drink after work more than 2x a week or drink most weekends you need treatment.
Nobody says that. The WHO says that regular drinking can be even in Moderation unhealthy for liver, kidneys, nerves etc. Not that every drinker is an alcoholic
I wish I saw this when I was younger, I’m 30 years old and I’m a heavy drinker - it’s because of the trauma I’ve experienced and I really want to quit.
This somehow ended up in my feed...I have been drininking for years. Im going to admit, my body is falling apart. Stomach cant hold anything, my arms sometimes hurt or go numb, my heart palpitations get bad too. This year I think I will stop completely. I dont have fun anymore, havent completed any games lately, havent spoke to people in a while, memory is jacked up...yea..Ill stop.

Man, I really love the style of vintage 70's artwork and animations. It reminded me of the old Joy Berry's educational books & records. And of course, the early Sesame Street, The Electric Company, Schoolhouse Rock TV shows that I grew up back in the 80's. Good times.
Amazing how that even before digital video became the norm, film was recording video in HD before our time. Now, we can scan these obscure films and watch them in high quality at the touch of a finger.
The ‘70s was a weird time. Pre-WWII the criminal justice system was overly harsh. The ‘70s were the peak of overcorrection from that. Basically we went from too hard to too soft, and the ‘70s were the softest. Personally I think we’re a little too hard again now, but it’s still way better than the way they coddled criminals back then. Of course, alcoholism isn’t a criminal matter unless it leads to crime. It’s basically medical and psychological, as this video notes.

It was great right up until the very end. It could have ended with a positive note like, "You CAN quit drinking alcohol" instead of "WHY can't you quit drinking alcohol?!" Poor guy was left hanging, imploring the elephant in the bottle to answer his question while he is literally left in the dark all alone. Poor guy. Hope he eventually got some help.
Bro that’s how real life is it’s a personal choice that can only be made by you alone . And once people see that drinking is a choice then you can finally take a step in the right direction
It's a take on the classic question "If he can do it, why can't you?" It's meant to indicate that you CAN do it, you're no worse than the other guy. And it allows for the person to come up with their own reasons as to how and why they can come up with the solution to their problem.
I think you are falling into the trap that many of us modern people do. You think that if something is hard/uncomfortable than that thing is "bad." It isnt, we as a people, as humankind, have withstood uncountable hardships. It is our nature to overcome. When you have a huge problem you need to really set and think about that issue. It sucks because you have to examine the effed up stuff you may have done. Imagine really examining the harm you have dealt to others. Or why you drink. Often it a very messed up reason and it hurts to acknowledge. We need to ask ourselves the hard questions, no one else likely will because these things are messy. It benefits others to have you be weak as well. Affirmative fluff is for children or those who cant face up to their own lives. Dont be drawn into trying to feel good. Do what you need to do and the good feeling will come, and it will be well earned and full of wisdom.
That was a very informative and an educational video that mainly concentrates on something hazardous about consuming alcohol and how will it effect eventually. I think I did learn something informative and didn't realize if Wario was an alcoholic.

This video was really touching and even made me cry, so far I have never really had a problem with alcoholism myself but it’s always good to remember that if you are a person who drinks and something significantly changes in your life it could happen for you too It also reminded me about the fact that I have to keep an eye out for my friends and make sure that everyone’s doing OK

I'm so grateful for AA. My mom has been 8 years sober. I spent the better part of adolescence seeing my mother fall into alcoholism at warp speed. It took the threat of not seeing her granddaughter (my niece) for her to come to reality. AA has been a rock for her and the family.
8 minutes in and it makes sense as to why people drink. It’s about coping with life and their emotions. This part is missed out so much because society doesn’t understand how to deal with emotions 12.18 further sense using alcohol as a crutch this is classic dealing with our emotions
Yup, very 1975-ish. Honestly, I never saw the appeal. Not that I didn't try, lol, but by the time of this film, life had given me enough pointed but gentle hints that drinking wasn't for me. Not the least of which was the loss of one and possibly two grandparents who passed when they were younger than I am now.
Same here. I’ve tried to drink because that’s what all of my friends do at parties and social gatherings, but I could never see the appeal, and personally I can’t stand the taste of alcohol lol.
😲OH WOW!!! They had us watch this during Health Week back in the early 80s (82/83) and we all laughed thinking it was part of School House Rock! Of course more understandable watching it now as an adult all these years later. Great/nostalgic post
After watching this I think I'm in the middle stages of alcoholism..I stop drinking for weeks @ a time & go hard when I start up again & I don't remember shit after drinking..but never thought I was an alkey because I can stop..wow this was informative..

Very informative ! Loved that back in 1975 this has a gentle town & is understanding that alcoholics/addicts are not necessarily "terrible" people, they need help
that assumes people are equal. There are some people who will make a self-indulgent harmful choice every time they can regardless of help. They don't need help, they are low quality and shouldn't be in society. There are those who get in over their head and need a hand up and it is a real disservice to the true victims to equate them to selfish scumbags. Its always a choice to be an alcoholic. Its also always a choice to seek to end alcoholism.

I used to be a heavy drinker and what helped me was giving up on strong liquor, like vodka. When I could only drink beer, i would still get drunk, but i would usually feel too full to drink anymore. Not so with spirits. You can drink that til the cows come home, and you'll end up waking up somewhere you don't remember going to sleep in.
Anyway, when i only drank beer, i got drunk a lot slower and so it was easier to manage. Now, i drink maybe once a month, and never to get hammered. Quit spirits first! I think it really works.

wow, as a struggling alcoholic i found this helpful, believe it or not, I started smoking heroin around 2020 for the first time in my life, giving that up was easy compared to quitting alcohol, what a curse, my moms father used to waste his entire check on alcohol and died at 40, im 54 now, and and really starting to feel the wrong effects of alcohol, anyway, women do not absorb or assimilate alcohol like men do, its genetics differences', the ending should have had him stand up and walk away from the bottle. peace and love always. . .

9:05 is very true. I was bad to the point that I had to drink. Otherwise, the withdrawals would come... Those shakes are the worst....alcohol withdrawal is like dying without actually dying. A year and 2 months sober, and I don't miss drinking, and it's really cool that I found this!

@MatthewChristianMurray thank you. I'm gonna be 36 in February, This came out waaaay before I was born let alone develop an alcohol addiction but this still holds up. The info is pretty much still useful today...it's just the place I went to to sagely stop my withdrawals was called a detox clinic...a week away from the world...they keep you for a week...no phone no nothing, they Locke that up safely for you. You stay there...eat really good food *at least the one I went too* and basically recover...the first 2 days were hell but then you start to feel better. It's not easy and as long as om alive I will never be out of the woods...but I got tired of it...the withdrawals, the puking, the comas, the wasting my life away. I'm still very anti social which is probably another reason how I found myself here. But I feel so much better without it. Like they say one day at a time.

The thing is, you can actually die from alcohol withdrawal. You can have seizures and die. Alcohol is one of the most dangerous drugs to withdraw from and anyone experiencing them should consider seeking medical treatment

I got sick, sick on some sake two days ago because the restaurant didn't serve bourbon or whiskey...I threw up really bad and had to stay in bed for the whole day... I've given up drinking and vaping
My best friend died on my birthday a few months ago. He drank since he was a young teen. It destroyed his kidneys, and heart. His kidneys failed, and he had a heart attack. He refused to eat much for over a year. It caused such severe gout often he couldn’t even move, and it was very painful. The shakes were so bad, he couldn’t do anything. His memory was so pitiful, I heard the same stories every day for years. This disease is so debilitating, and devastating it’s beyond tragic. He tried to seek therapy, and medical attention in the last few months but by then it was too late. He had just celebrated his 50th birthday a few months prior. Losing him is so heartbreaking, and I can’t stand it. I tried so hard to help him for years, and it’s agony knowing nothing worked. A person can have all the support they need but they have to want recovery. You have to save yourself. Nobody can make you, or do it for you. Quitting cold turkey could kill you, and there has to be a treatment in place. You cannot do this in any other way. You have to monitor your health thoroughly, and look for any complications or risk factors. It takes rehab. It takes therapy. It takes many doctor visits. It takes medication. It takes time, and determination. But you can do this! I believe in you! No better time than the present. Let Today be the first day, of the rest of your best life.🫶🏻

I was learning about "love has won" a cult that was run by a severe alchoholic. Really interesting how the folowers rationalized all the symptoms of alchoholism. She died and they still dont see it. The cult just keeps going. :/ i wish we didnt joke around about alchoholism.
I'm a binge drinker myself, at least that's how therapists label me, and I can really appreciate what I believe your message is. I've hurt many people, some times I can recall, other's I can't. Yet through it all, in spite of all the signs of how I can become a completely different person that can hurt those they care about or even love through my actions, I often choose the clearly wrong decision. I have felt addiction on some level since just before 6th grade. I don't believe in fate but I feel we are still coaxed a certain way by genetics and the environment we grow in. But addiction is a choice, i believe, just one that is harder to overcome or more likely to experience for some. But yes, we addicts can lie as easily to others as ourselves, a fact I wish I learned sooner, or better, since I fall in the same cycles every so often taking those who I care for and who care for me with me. All drugs are dangerous tools that can destroy or create, though some are more helpful or hurtful, and everyone is different in how they interact with those tools should they choose to use them. Alcohol has been a more bittersweet chemical friend than others I've found, but she's clingy and hard to shake in my experience. Regardless of anything I've said in this rant, I do hope you never experience addiction and I wasn't offended by anything you said, I was just so inclined to give my say on the matter as well.

I know quite a few functioning alcoholics, one of whom fortunately recently celebrated 1 year sober. It was something I never noticed while at work, because I imagine he, like most of my coworkers, hides it really well.
I know quite a few semi-functioning alcoholics who think they’re hiding it better than they actually are.
There is no functionaning alcohol. Every that consumes it has a problem. It's responsible for 3 million deaths. Second most addictive next to fentinol. It's kills more people than heoin and fentol

Interesting there’s no mention of drinking and driving. This video was made in 1975, and I think MADD was founded 5 years later. Until then most people ignored the danger or didn’t take it seriously enough.

That DUI was probably the best thing to happen to him. I'm sober now but drank heavy for 30 years. I somehow always stayed out of trouble and looking back I think something like a DUI in my 20s may have inspired me to quit much earlier and saved me from a lot of issues and bad decisions later on.

This is a very good explanation! I never took a liking to alcohol, but it's a good reminder that anything that we develop an unhealthy dependency on can easily become an addiction and lead to demise.
Got pulled over when i was 19 in idaho (early 2000s). They found a roach in my car. No jail, but lots of probation and community service. When i had my drug and alcohol assessment, by a "professional" he concluded that i was also an alcoholic.
The problem was, i had told him, honestly, that i had never had a drop in my life. I asked him why he thinks i am an alcoholic and he just said the "scoring system is kinda weird." I had to go to aa as part of my sentence. Wtf. I have never had any faith in "professionals" since then.

My dad was a really heavy drinker. From when I was little to eighteen years old. What really made me upset was when he dated another addict. Now, if my dad met someone who stayed sober, and he got his footing and went to college or trade school, or got a job. I wouldn't have been mad at him. But, what makes me more irate was when I was in Highschool and the counseler and vice principal told me to. "Stay out of my dad's personal life." And what they meant was his "love life." Not his addiction, or his career, or getting him sober. So, what life? I always wondered if other kids were told that.

Also 2 D.U.I.s as well, combined with lectures and brow AND body beatings NOT to drink or smoke.....ANYTHING, never mind just cigarettes....Oh, and of course mandatory church attendance to make me even MORE "Holy"🙄👹🙉🙊🙈 (Christianity and substance abuse/use NOT a good evangelizing tool!!😈👿)
** My Father had parents that were VERY HEAVY drinkers and. BOTH of their deaths at age 49 is proof enough of THAT!! (Though to cut them some "slack", also were VERY HEAVY cigarette smokers.🙄) My MOTHER on the other hand, came from a family that did NOT drink...They apparently didn't even KNOW how to SPELL "booze"...."Smart(ER) Midwest GERMANS?????🙄
However when I was growing up, she DID drink WINE, and her being SMALL, female, and hailing from a NON DRINKING background, made her a "LIGHTWEIGHT"....VERY light weight, and her own alcohol intoxication contributed to those fights that made the scenes in "Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolfe" (starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) quite TAME by comparison.
PS If you see that counselor again, let him know Jebidiah said for YOU to say to her/him:
"YOU WERE FULL OF SHIT ASSHOLE" Or if THAT is too harsh, "gently" ask:
"Uh, WHY did you get into guidance counseling again? Tell me it was NOT your first choice of careers....."

I found out(in adulthood) that my father was and is an alcoholic. I have never drank in my life. Im glad i made the decision to stay alcohol free because i may have had issues like my father.

It’s so crazy that we’ve known so much about alcoholism and addiction for so long, yet we still send people with this disease to prisons and punish them. Addicts and alcoholics are still treated like trash and alienated. I wish more people could understand, but I guess it’s almost impossible to understand if you’ve never experienced it. I hit rock bottom 9 years ago and I am over 8 years sober now.
I'm sober now but was a full blown alcoholic for 30 years. I wish I was punished more for it, maybe I would have quit earlier and saved myself a lot of grief. Drunks are treated like trash because they usually are and I was no exception.
That’s not my experience at all. Many ”drunks” are intelligent, sensitive people.
I gotta admit this video from 1975 is freaking incredible. Spot on. And, this is how long our doctors and psychology people have known about this. And, still to the day it's the same story. And the recommendations are the same. Extremely spot on. There's no two ways about it.

If you are regularly missing work because you drink to much, you might well have a problem.
Now they say if you have a drink after work more than 2x a week or drink most weekends you need treatment.

This somehow ended up in my feed...I have been drininking for years. Im going to admit, my body is falling apart. Stomach cant hold anything, my arms sometimes hurt or go numb, my heart palpitations get bad too. This year I think I will stop completely. I dont have fun anymore, havent completed any games lately, havent spoke to people in a while, memory is jacked up...yea..Ill stop.

Man, I really love the style of vintage 70's artwork and animations. It reminded me of the old Joy Berry's educational books & records. And of course, the early Sesame Street, The Electric Company, Schoolhouse Rock TV shows that I grew up back in the 80's. Good times.
Amazing how that even before digital video became the norm, film was recording video in HD before our time. Now, we can scan these obscure films and watch them in high quality at the touch of a finger.

The ‘70s was a weird time. Pre-WWII the criminal justice system was overly harsh. The ‘70s were the peak of overcorrection from that. Basically we went from too hard to too soft, and the ‘70s were the softest.
Personally I think we’re a little too hard again now, but it’s still way better than the way they coddled criminals back then.
Of course, alcoholism isn’t a criminal matter unless it leads to crime. It’s basically medical and psychological, as this video notes.

It was great right up until the very end. It could have ended with a positive note like, "You CAN quit drinking alcohol" instead of "WHY can't you quit drinking alcohol?!" Poor guy was left hanging, imploring the elephant in the bottle to answer his question while he is literally left in the dark all alone. Poor guy. Hope he eventually got some help.
Bro that’s how real life is it’s a personal choice that can only be made by you alone . And once people see that drinking is a choice then you can finally take a step in the right direction
It's a take on the classic question "If he can do it, why can't you?" It's meant to indicate that you CAN do it, you're no worse than the other guy. And it allows for the person to come up with their own reasons as to how and why they can come up with the solution to their problem.
I think you are falling into the trap that many of us modern people do. You think that if something is hard/uncomfortable than that thing is "bad." It isnt, we as a people, as humankind, have withstood uncountable hardships. It is our nature to overcome. When you have a huge problem you need to really set and think about that issue. It sucks because you have to examine the effed up stuff you may have done. Imagine really examining the harm you have dealt to others. Or why you drink. Often it a very messed up reason and it hurts to acknowledge. We need to ask ourselves the hard questions, no one else likely will because these things are messy. It benefits others to have you be weak as well. Affirmative fluff is for children or those who cant face up to their own lives. Dont be drawn into trying to feel good. Do what you need to do and the good feeling will come, and it will be well earned and full of wisdom.

This came up in my recommended I have been going through relationship issues and I never talk about my problems so I either drink or smoke weed everything happens for a reason to make a long story short

This video was really touching and even made me cry, so far I have never really had a problem with alcoholism myself but it’s always good to remember that if you are a person who drinks and something significantly changes in your life it could happen for you too
It also reminded me about the fact that I have to keep an eye out for my friends and make sure that everyone’s doing OK

I'm so grateful for AA. My mom has been 8 years sober. I spent the better part of adolescence seeing my mother fall into alcoholism at warp speed. It took the threat of not seeing her granddaughter (my niece) for her to come to reality. AA has been a rock for her and the family.

Yup, very 1975-ish. Honestly, I never saw the appeal. Not that I didn't try, lol, but by the time of this film, life had given me enough pointed but gentle hints that drinking wasn't for me. Not the least of which was the loss of one and possibly two grandparents who passed when they were younger than I am now.
Same here. I’ve tried to drink because that’s what all of my friends do at parties and social gatherings, but I could never see the appeal, and personally I can’t stand the taste of alcohol lol.
I learned something new. Alcohol stays in system for 3 hours.

😲OH WOW!!! They had us watch this during Health Week back in the early 80s (82/83) and we all laughed thinking it was part of School House Rock! Of course more understandable watching it now as an adult all these years later. Great/nostalgic post

After watching this I think I'm in the middle stages of alcoholism..I stop drinking for weeks @ a time & go hard when I start up again & I don't remember shit after drinking..but never thought I was an alkey because I can stop..wow this was informative..
