It depends on the company's overall dividend policy. As an individual shareholder/stockholder, you can't tell the company to change the rule just for you, and to not give dividends just in your case. However, I *think* that some companies may have a dividend "rollover" policy where your dividends can be reinvested in the company's stock... in which some governments *might* give some sort of tax exemptions for that (I'm not sure though).
How does someone avoid the double taxation??? I mean....you pay "less" tax on capital gains vs dividends.... But dividends are payments to you for having stock....capital gains come basically from having stock......so to me you're paying the double tax AND the capital gains tax...... Or can you choose between these???? Can an individual just tell the company not to give him dividends so he can pay tax only for capital gains?
