Hi, Mr.Luening. Congrats for your great job, I am a big fan of your channel. Some friendly corrections to the history part, though: the Chivas brand was not born in 1801-as marketers make us believe-, in fact, James Chivas, the oldest of the Chivas brothers who got involved in the business and the founder of the brand, was born on Dec. 20th 1810 and arrived in Aberdeen with his family in 1834. He joined Alexander Edward, the owner of a store in 13 King Street in 1839. After Alexander Edward died in 1841 in a trip to Madeira, James Chivas bought the store and partnered with Charles Stewart to form Stewart & Chivas Co. Later in 1857, Stewart sold his part of the business and John Chivas (James' younger brother) entered the company. Next year, in 1858, Chivas Brothers was born. The 1801 part of the story is because that year was the founding of the store , located by then in 46 Castle Street, by a man named John Forrest. I am with Ralfy here - this is better than most mass market single malts. The caramel is not apparent on the taste at all, and the grains too are masked by the malts. It is intense in flavour and has depth - recent single malts I have had such as Glenfiddich 15, Laphroaig 10, Dalmore 15 are currently not as good as this - sad but true - no actually its a good thing as its only 20 quid a bottle!

I find it strange that everybody else gets it in the “affordable” range. In Australia, it’s higher up the shelves and where a cheap bottle might range $35-45 (Grant’s, Johnnie Red, Dewar’s), Chivas typically is a $50-65 bottle depend where you go. If it’s on sale near me it’s about $45. I don’t mind Chivas and I find it hits pretty hard so I get it when on sale sometimes. Lots of character on the nose and pretty sufficient in flavour for a blend imo, but I can pay the same price for Glen Moray which is at least tangibly more enjoyable; single malts drams with a few different labels to try, and sometimes even $10-15 cheaper than Chivas.
