Not a well-known episode, but a very dark and emotional one similar to 'It's Never Too Late', with Rupert Thorne having his own less evil brother trying to help him until it's clear he can't be redeemed like Stromwell was. Both Thorne and Batman show rare moments of human vulnerability here, with the latter being concussed so he's less effective against Thorne's men than usual.
This episode may not be considered one of the greats of this show for some but man does it have one of my favorite endings in all of the DCAU. Bruce after an entire ordeal getting the doctor out of criminal control finds someone else who personally knew and was friends with his father and just quietly asks to be told who Thomas Wayne was as a person because he knew him longer then his own son tragically did. Such a beautiful yet heart wrenching ending.
Frank Paur attempted to get Bruce Timm to update Leslie Thompkins character model for this episode to make her jumping off a rooftop seem more believable, but to no avail. However, Paur did have one of the storyboard artists go through all the action poses with Leslie so she'd look a little more "sturdy".
Chub is a type of fish so finding a Chub on the floor wouldn't be too bad.........granted it would be rather strange finding one on the floor in that location
@@vegvisir9276 Technically it should be the next thing they should have watched, as that movie came out December 1993, this episode aired in September 1993 and the next episode after this didn't air until May 1994.
@@vegvisir9276 Oh that's weird... by airdate this episode shoulda been "The Worry Men" and next week "Paging the Crime Doctor"... HBO Max order makes no sense, lol.
Aaron, still initially not recognizing Leslie Tompkins when her character in Gotham, Lee Tompkins, is from what I recall one of his favorites is both funny and frustrating to me. Maybe he has figured out who she is and doesn't want to spoil Gotham for the others, but it keeps reading like he's just missing the connection by _that_ much. Like, he refers to her by both Dr. Tompkins and Leslie, but never Dr. Leslie Tompkins which might clue him in if he's not. 🤣
I don't think most people have made that connection because the two characters are so drastically different. I have watched both shows and frequently forget that they have the same name.
I never really liked how this series used Thorne as the only mob boss in Gotham. I also find it strange that Batman never goes after the corrupt officials that Thorne bribes to have him released from jail. I would have liked it better if the series had used Carmine Falcone after Thorne was first arrested and after Falcone is arrested, use Sal Maroni. That way it would feel like Batman is actually making a difference.
How would Batman go after the officials? Beating them up would accomplish nothing and finding evidence of the bribes can be difficult. Arnold Stromwell was Thorne's archrival then he quit the crime business. So Batman did make a difference there by helping to redeem Stromwell, but Thorne won't change his ways. No point in having more than one mob boss in a story unless it's in service of the plot. Ironically Two-Face sometimes acts in that role- one part rogue one part mob boss.
@@WhiteFangofWar Pretty sure the world's greatest detective could easily find evidence to expose corrupt officials. In the Dark Knight trilogy he actually succeeded in ridding Gotham of its corruption and organized crime.

Feels like one of those episodes kids might not be into much, being closer to an emotional adult drama with Batman thrown in.

I remember watching this episode so many times as a kid.
When I see the laser going I said "Kaneda! Tetsuo!"

I think Aaron likes the shadow
This was the first Batman episode I ever saw.
Some goons are just worth the investment.
Another batman reaction let's go
When do we get the fast x reaction

there was that other one with the priest but obviously he kinda got straightened out a bit in that episode
He's definitely not the only mob boss in Gotham. There's loads of them in Mask of the Phantasm, for example.
