    I currently live in Cambridge and commute to Central London for uni. It's very nice but the commute is really expensive, I pay only a little less for transport costs compared to what I used to pay for student accommodation (and live with my parents so I have no extra rent costs). However, a lot of people from the Cambridge area commute to London. In the future I plan to live in Royston (Hertfordshire), it's a pretty and historic town and in the middle of the train route between Cambridge and London, so there are good transport links to both.

We don't want to move back to Reading and considering Maidenhead, I have been around few times but can't say I know it very well. How is the diversity, it's very important for us that our son goes to school and play with other black & brown children.

    Ashika, this is an interesting video about London's commuter towns. As someone who had lived around London for over 35 years, and been a homeowner near St Albans for over twenty years, (5:50) I found your opinions a lot to think about. Would you please disclose the sources for all the things you say in this video? As of 1st May 2023, you have not put the sources in the description for this video. (1st May 2023).

    So True...You can never win if you are working in London..No matter where you live...you are struggling with Money.. if you are working in Central London and thinking of living in the outskirts even 30 min commute the travel seasonal tickets are £5k and over..so in reality what you might think you are saving on rent is actually going out as Commute. Yes it is individual choice of where you feel happy and your priorities...For some schools/Social life. But as an individual nuclear families we will suffer because we don't have families...

  • @danbee415
    @danbee415 2 года назад +5

    Interesting you mentioned Maidenhead, may consider it especially if its safe. Had a look at the train tickets, it makes a big difference too. It's like 1.5K cheaper per year then Reading. And it has roughly the same property prices too.

    Great for those who have to go into London once or twice a week, not more.
    I'm also moving out of London to Milton keynes, one of the other places that could have been covered in this video. It's about 35 mins to Euston in the fastest train. A two day weekly commute (national rail only) will cost about £70 and that's £280/month.

    Now back in France, I leaved few year in Hitchin prior after few other places in the UK.
    Lovely town. Really miss it. Though a cinema would have been nice.
    If I go back to UK, I was thinking St Albans or Maidenhead/Reading. As my current company is in High Wycombe and I might need to go in the office at least twice a week compared to now fully homebased.
    Guilford is lovely but not practical to reach Standstead Airport.
    St albans would be the "secure" choice as I know already Hertford. Having lived in north London and Hitchin. It would near what I was used too.
    Maidenhead would be a new adventure for a new start????? And probably easier to reach work when needed???
    Well I will see what the future holds for me. Maybe I will stay in France maybe not!

      Hi Sushma, you can find out what food items you can carry by checking here: www.gov.uk/bringing-food-into-great-britain
      I would however suggest you don't carry these items as ALL indian stores in the UK have all these items. You'd be wasting precious space.

    I am reaching out to seek your expert advice on the best place to live in London for my Indian family. I have been following your videos and find them immensely helpful, but I am in search of very specific details tailored to our needs.
    We are looking for a location that offers the perfect balance of convenience, amenities, and community for our family. Specifically, we are interested in finding a 2-bedroom flat in a high-rise building, ideally with modern facilities and a safe environment.
    Moreover, as education is a top priority for us, we are also seeking recommendations for good high schools in the vicinity. It is crucial for us to ensure that our children have access to quality education within a reasonable distance from our residence.
    Could you please provide insights into the best neighborhoods or areas in London that meet these criteria? Any additional information or tips you can offer to help us make an informed decision would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance for your assistance. We eagerly await your response.

      Hi Sam, I happened to stumble upon some mom blogs which maintained that Slough was not the safest when you had young children so I decided to steer away. I can’t be sure how true that was but just to be on the safer side, I decided to give slough a miss.

    Thank you so much Ashika! We will be moving to the UK soon and I will be working based out of central London. We were on the fence as to whether we wanted to live in one of the suburbs or outside. This video really has helped us a lot in understanding the advantages of living outside London, the options available, and to a certain extent in my wife pestering me a bit to live in Maidenhead ;). One important question we have though is how good is the child care in Maidenhead or Reading? Hope it's not too difficult to answer :). Thanks again!

    • @AbsolutelyAshika
      @AbsolutelyAshika  2 года назад +1

      Hi Harsha, happy it helped! In both reading and Maidenhead you have child care options. If your child goes to school, school is free. If not, You can get 30 hours of free childcare per week for 38 weeks of the year (during school term time). You may be able to get free childcare for 52 weeks if you use fewer than 30 hours per week.
      Reading is a city vs Maidenhead so has its pros and cons

    how to check for school if it a good one or not?
    At what class does it start to matter the quality of school ?

    • @AbsolutelyAshika
      @AbsolutelyAshika  2 года назад

      So Ofsted reviews schools every now and then and I know there are a lot of mixed reviews about schools but there’s no other fixed way to measure them unfortunately. They rank schools into outstanding, good etc. The other way is to take a tour of the school and evaluate its facilities for yourself, read bulletin boards etc. I think you should worry about the quality of a school from day 1 to be honest and not wait till the kids get older.
