Agreed. He doesn’t preach about how every single person is meant for greatness, he just says that you have to do the best that you are physically and mentally able. Not everyone is meant for ‘Greatness’ as most motivational speakers would have you believe, but that’s not a bad thing. Normal people make the world keep spinning.
2 years ago i was a terible student at my scool, with no ambition, no life goals, and keep on failing exams... one day i was on youtube and watch this video, after that, my life change, 2 years after that i completed tasks the moment from i wake up to sleep.... now im an officer cadet studying to graduate, to serve my country... 'The Power Of One Man'
It’s been 3 years since I watched this. I was unemployed, stuck in my room 24/7, no money, no friends, and very very depressed. I’m now employed with a stable job, fair pay, almost got enough for a car, I have good close friends now, and I’m working hard at the gym. It started by making my bed everyday. I’m not looking to “change the world” but this immensely shaped my life. Edit: wow this got a lot of likes, it’s really crazy how some small almost insignificant things can have profound effects on your life. This video for some reason stuck in my head and I just kept going I guess. It wasn’t easy but yeah thank you all for the nice comments 🙏🏾💯

Cannot agree more. Back in the 90s, I still remember how my dad often emphasize on the importance of making our bed every day every morning. Now I know why it is indeed really important. Now I am in my late 30s and I am thankful dad, for this. Being systematic and disciplined is the key of success.

i have been struggling with depression for a while and when i felt at my lowest i watched this video for my first time i have watched this video everyday for the past 4 months and this video gives me hope that tomorrow can be better than today and that life will get better :)
I've heard that there a bit of depression in everyone 😊! Never feel alone 🤗-Some deal with there's different is the only difference. Glad you are getting something from the vid-may God send you Peace and Joy👌
My social studies teacher, showed of this video for a week straight so that we remembered to make our bed for a week and see how it made us feel and if we felt accomplished.
Same here, only that I fold up my blanket so that my sheets are exposed. The benefit is more air flow and therefore less smell. Doing my bed is routine, it comes without thinking so it doesn't fill me with a sense of accomplishment anymore, although it's slightly more convenient to cover myself at nights now. What I took away from this is speech is that having a routine is a foundation on which you can build on. It can be Making your bed, waking up at a certain time, going to bed at a certain time... This foundation is the required basis for everything you build on top of it and this foundation doesn't get destroyed that easily once established. So even if you fail at less ingrained and harder tasks that day, and your metaphorically your building collapses, you'll still have your foundation to rebuild your building tomorrow.
I'have got three favorites in this speach: 1. Do your bed. If you cant get the little things right, you will get the big things right. 2. the singing in the mud 3. life is not fair, you will fail often. How true.
My dad is an Ex-Serviceman from the Indian navy...my dad suggest the tells me the same thing 'make your bed' I never thought how important this is until now. Great speech I'm pumped #nothing but respect
This video changed my life. I am what i am today because of this. When I look back at this after soo many years it brings tears remembering the miserable days i used to watch this during... life gets better hang in there guys... trust me
I'm not American and I'm not a baptist too. I'm not a man. I'm not a navy. This is one of the most inspirational speeches I have heard in my life. And I hope that one day everybody will dream to change the world for the better, not for ourselves but for the generations that come and on that day we can reach the stars.
katyalight - agreed. I don’t look up to anyone cause then one will invariably look down on others, but I admit, this guy is special and have to look up to him.
Brilliant, simply brilliant. I have listened to your speech multiple times, I have purchased your book which quotes your words, and have subsequently gifted it to friends to share your wisdom. This will not be the last time I listen to your speech to breathe in your advice....for I will always need a voice like yours to succeed in whatever my personal endeavor to help change the world one minute and one person at a time, starting with myself. That’s not nothing, for if we all heeded your advice, and made our beds each morning, we would all be the successful change in this world, one person and one bed at a time. Thank you, sir, and thank you for your service. The country owes you....actually the world is indebted. God bless you.
So if you wanna change the world, start each day with a task completed, find someone to help you through life, RESPECT EVERYONE, know that life is not fair and you will fail often. But if you take some risks, step up when the times are the toughest, face down the bullies, lift up the downtrodden, and never ever give up. This part always sends shivers down my spine.
@@justinamusyoka4986 Now you know that military people can be intelligent , wise , cultured , and educated . In the US it's harder to get into the military than to get into college .
@@justinamusyoka4986 As a navy veteran , one thing that I can say about all branches of the armed forces is that we are trained to handle ourselves under stress and maintain a sense of discipline . The greatest threats can be overcame with a mindset of preparedness and calm under pressure. There are many people that have never served in the military , but serve their communities as policemen , firefighters , and medical first responders . I respect all thej service workers that keep us safe to go about our daily lives .

Pe d r I e , I am an old guy, I remember when life got tough and I was so depressed I was sleeping my clothes on an unmade bed It really destroyed my confidence just to look at it, I couldn’t understand that I was an adult and was too down to do these normal simple little things, but I just want you to know, when I tried to do them, I felt much less depressed, and I look forward to going to my bed for some good sleep, it’s possible that you have been taught this way, so I am not ridiculing you, I have no right to judge you, but if you think you are depressed, the best medicine I found was doing positive things… I’m just saying I hope I helped you
It was possibly the military that made him the man he is. The military doesn’t create killer’s or mad men. It instills discipline, leadership, and integrity, In the 1% that is willing to change their life. The 1% are those who chose to give up their freedom so that we civilians can have ours.
The Military Training itself doesnt make you a killer, but it prepares you for that. As long as the War isnt fought for Survival or personal freedom (wich is not the case since every war after ww2 that the US fought in), its all just propaganda to make Soldiers believe that they do the right thing. You keep telling yourself that your freedom relies on those brainwashed Soldiers, but theres no proof for that. I would say its even the other way around. You should look at Lybia. The U.S "freed" the state and right now Lybia is the worst its ever been. This is not for your freedom. If you believe it is, you should fight for yourself.
You guys might not understand the role of the military. The US Army is not supposed to make the lives of the people in Lybia or other countries better, and they are not supposed to make them feel safe. The thing is, USA is in such a priviledged position right now, and its citizens too, partly because of it's army. If you are an american, you might take this things for granted, but the thing is, your freedom and your privileges are paid by this brave soldiers.
@Brian Rolff No, I actually believe is the first step towards discipline,If it was some bullshit the video would begin with something like" So I wake up at 4 am so I'm sure that while the hole town sleep I'm already beeing active putting me a step ahead of them all"
@Brian Rolff I know how you feel when you say it's an useless chore but ,by doing it,you will also give your bedroom a more pleasant look,as humans we tend to be attracted to an well ordered environment thus assuming that will order comes prosperity and therefore motivation.
I used to be in the army for two years and each day I was making my bed. The only reason that I did it was so I could not get punished by my colonels and lose my one day off per week. Not once did any of my colonels gave me a single reason or motivation to do it other than the feeling of fear or wrath. This Gentleman with capital G, who is thousand miles away and in all probability will never meet taught me more in six minutes than two years in the army. Every single task no matter how small lays the foundation for change and growth. As Lao Tzu famously said "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". No matter how difficult life is, it will get easier if we take a single step each day. With every step you become a better version of yourself than the one you were yesterday and I cannot think of a better achievement than that. Thank you so much Sir.
Why would you get in trouble with your colonels? A colonel has slot more to worry about than a Pvt or low ranks bed role, that's s sergeants job to worry about that shit.....
I want to Thank You, for such a spot on comment, and for your knowledge to be able to pick up and apply his message, of : A LIFE WORTH LIVING. GOD BLESS YOU . PLEASE SHARE WHAT WE'VE BEEN BLESSED TO TAKE AWAY FROM THIS AMAZING MAN'S LIFE'S STORY. SO THAT OTHER'S MAY ALSO BE ABLE TO KNOW AND SHARE IT. THANKS AGAIN.
Just so everyone is aware, William McRaven isn't talking about the Navy Seals; he's talking about life and the struggles that everyone will face if you want to change the world. doesn't matter what path you take, these challenges will be there.
Last Mans Dreams a speech is powerful when it’s inspirational to all. It’s inspirational to all because it’s interpreted individually by the heart. It fits the needs of the listener because they listened with the heart. No one needs you to interpret it for them.
Thats a huge goal. I hope it is still noble when you are old enough. The united states military is becoming incredibly illegitimate. Do you research so you don't have moral regrets. General Smedley Butler: War is a racket. IVAW: Iraq veterans against war. What is the military industrial complex? (General President Eisenhower), the CIA with Bin Laden(pics and news articles), ISIS, WikiLeaks, the real reasons we were in vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, the truth about Mumar Gaddahaffi etc and the list goes on.
Aaron Cabiness I don't get why people are so shocked by big goals. There wouldn't be any SEALs if they were denied of having big goals. The 99% who fail are rarely the kind who dream of becoming since they were kids.
brandon johnson Hey Brandon: Thanks for reading my post. I'm glad to know that you appreciate the speech. I salute, US Navy Admiral, William H. McRaven
I agree if it wasn't for God and Our military we would not be here we as Amercians need to learn how to appreacte life, and stop being ignorant and selfish and realize that people has it worse.
brandon johnson Thank you Brandon Johnson for agreeing with me. I'm trying to keep this Speech in one level and not beyond. Since I came from a military family, I try to keep my loved ones, that are no longer here, with dignity and respect. I know that some people don't agree with me, but that's their opinion. ✌ my friend.
I study so many things. I study the wisdom of the wisest human beings lived on this planet, not only from my country, Greece, but from all over the world, wisdom through the centuries. But this speech is the most wise and strong and powerful speech i ever heard in my 49 years of age. This enlightenment, these wings for the mind the spirit the hart the soul... This MAN... Oh i wish to have him my leader when i was a young Sargent of the special forces many years ago(although i remember with respect my superiors). The only thing i have to say for this MAN is ΕΥΓΕ (a bravo multiplied x100 let's say), the ancient Greek word earned from the highest level human being making something great, an example to respect and follow and place it deep in to your hart and, if one man speak like this, from his hart and experience, deserve that title of honor. The U.S military must be proud having men like him. God bless. Chris from Greece.

Cannot agree more. Back in the 90s, I still remember how my dad often emphasize on the importance of making our bed every day every morning. Now I know why it is indeed really important. Now I am in my late 30s and I am thankful dad, for this. Being systematic and disciplined is the key of success.

what has it changed ?
@@pandadanda1850 he is bedman now ...

Did it change anything?
Your country needs you Admiral.

I'have got three favorites in this speach: 1. Do your bed. If you cant get the little things right, you will get the big things right. 2. the singing in the mud 3. life is not fair, you will fail often. How true.

So if you wanna change the world, start each day with a task completed, find someone to help you through life, RESPECT EVERYONE, know that life is not fair and you will fail often. But if you take some risks, step up when the times are the toughest, face down the bullies, lift up the downtrodden, and never ever give up.

@@terrenceklaverweide6356 110%
The 1% lol tell that to countrys like Nk n china hahah first part of your statement rang true though

I agree, make it everyday and fold my socks and hang my t-shirts. Its the little things that make us great. I have no complaints.
Why would you get in trouble with your colonels? A colonel has slot more to worry about than a Pvt or low ranks bed role, that's s sergeants job to worry about that shit.....
George Antoniades Indeed - "Every single task no matter how small lays the foundation for change and growth".

Aaron Cabiness you have a 1% chance of succeeding. Make sure you're not part of the 99%. Good luck bro.
Aaron Cabiness same here
Don’t say it and just do it.
