    I'm glad the title was appropriate rather than utter clickbait. I was quite enthralled by the handy granulation function you illustrated at 12:52 when you applied it to that athmos sound and selected the grain size by simply scrolling. How effects are represented by the signal they generate and the integrated automation clips in each block amused me as well. I've seen an "add synth" option in the menu, so I'm eager to see which synthesizers this platform has to offer, if it happens to have any.
    Looks like a very interesting project, thank you for presenting it.

      Thank you! I'm glad you like the video. I try to be real with my headlines as per how I feel about what I present while still trying to gather some attention.
      As for the synths, there are only two synths now and they are an FM based one and a weird Vocal one. Since there's no midi implementation yet you rely a lot on using the automation lanes for them as well, which is not super intuitive right now. So synths and midi are still in a super early phase but let's see how it develops!

    A really interesting project, I own version 0-32-0 which I don't know if it's the latest one, I canceled the subscription because unfortunately everything only works with shortcuts and my cheap keyboard has a strange layout that doesn't correspond to the standard, so half of the shortcuts don't work for me and you still can't do many things with the mouse, so for me it was impossible to really have fun with this DAW and I don't feel like paying for something that I can't use at the moment... but I can understand its potential, I'm keeping an eye on it, I really hope to see progress and to be able to use it and to be able to reactivate the subscription.

    • @oscilop
      @oscilop  3 месяца назад +2

      Yeah, I agree that many things are keyboard dependent. I suggested to the developer to add few buttons so maybe in the future it will be easier to work with just a mouse. 😊

    i would more call this a sampler, u can make music in it, but i think its better used as a tool for creating samples, kinda like koala sampler feels more like a tool u use for unique workflow that u want to take into ableton , or do something in renoise and import to ableton. its something about having more control in the finishing states, and less when u start i think is the perfect mix.

    • @oscilop
      @oscilop  4 месяца назад

      Yeah, spot on. This is probably where it's currently at. It's great for mangling audio and starting projects but even myself I'd rather finish them up in Ableton later. 😊
      With a few workflow improvements like the duplication I showed at the end then it might be good enough for making track skeletons but I'd still finish the tracks in Ableton.

    It's cool but until it can host VSTs and write/edit/process MIDI, it's not a D.A.Workstation, it's an audio editor with a few DAW-like features. It's not any more a DAW than Audacity is.

    • @oscilop
      @oscilop  4 месяца назад +5

      I hear you. Midi will eventually come. I'm also not a fan of subscriptions, but when that money goes to small creators, not big companies, it makes more sense.
      Patreon enables the dev to pay the bills and try to make this crazy project going. I'm not sure if any big company would ever attempt a DAW like this one. You can also subscribe for as little as 1 dollar a month, try a build and then if you don't like it, cancel your subscription. So you don't lose much if you want to try. 😊

      I'm currently getting into Bitwig thanks to switching to Linux (Bitwig is Linux compatible). Bitwig seems like a sound-designer's dream. To sum up, It's for folks that thick that they love Reaktor but want something more plug-in-play. I can forgive the UI as long as I can get the results that I wish.
      As far as Blockhead is concerned, it seems like a tracker (Renoise) with the screen sat up 90-degrees, traded the Excel spreadsheet for a non-quantized MS-Paint canvas, and with steroidal levels of mouse surgery (compared to tracker workflow). Yep... definitely a neurotically confused tracker. It will probably yield terribly creative results in the right hands. Personally, I want something that aids me in my quest to wrangle guitars and synthesizers which I do not see possible in Blockhead.
