In all my years of playing so many Mario games, I never thought I can love a Modern Paper Mario just as much, if not, more than Thousand Year Door. Origami King is up there with Paper Mario 64, Super Mario Bros. 3, Bowser’s Inside Story and Super Mario Galaxy in my Top 5 favorite Mario games of all time. A lot of love and care was clearly put into this game. Bobby’s story arc was great, music is the best Paper Mario soundtrack of the entire series. The Toads for once aren’t as obnoxious as the previous two, and for once I actually cared about what was going on in terms of a Paper Mario plot. This game was like Intelligent Systems hitting two strikes, and then hitting a Home Run.
I’m sure I’m going to adore TTYD remake when it comes out, but this game has such a special place in my heart and I will always look back at this game with such love and fondness. Such a wonderful, underrated little game.
Same. I don't even know why I bought this game. I had heard about how Sticker star and Color splash were such weak games, but I randomly decided to buy and play this game. One of the best decisions I've ever made. May not be the most flashy game, it still has its flaws, but boy is it an experience through and through.

I honestly wish I could go back to this game and play it completely blind again, because my god, this was a truly enjoyable experience I constantly played this game for hours whenever I had the chance to, and I was honestly happy and sad when I had beaten the game, because that meant that it was over (Aside from a 100% cutscene)
100%ing this game is hard. I have to: Get the shuriken trophy Coins on eddy river SGFL perfect game Best all the bosses in battle lan Clear 16 levels of speed rings
I did the same thing: I'd play for at least an hour for every day (with exception of the second day, to which I played the whole day), more often then not two. I went into this game (almost) completely blind. The reason for the 'almost'? RUclips Thumbnail spoilers. Thankfully, they didn't ruin the game at all, as I still had no idea what was coming. You people are probably going to get mad at me for this, but this was my first Paper Mario game, and I had an incredible experience. My only regret is that I didn't record my playthrough, if I could go back, that's what I would do.
Okay, first a few words about the Credits Theme. At first, I was little bit disappointed because it wasnt a second Prisma Splash, but this simply isnt what these credits want to be. They are not a parade celebrating what you experienced. They are a just a relaxed drive on your way home giving you to room to reflect on the events of the past, while showing you events of the present to both remind you where you all have been and to show you that life will go on in this world, even after you have beaten the game. Technically. This is what these credits want to be: Relaxing, hopeful, happy. But this isnt just about the credits theme, as this is the last song in the OST Playlist, this is also a great time to reflect on the whole game's OST again...As someone who holded Color Splash's soundtrack deep in his heart, I had big expectations for Origami King's..And what do you know, it still blew me away, during my first playthrough, during my time in the 100 percented sound galleria, during exploring the OST on youtube. I just cant believe how versatile this soundtrack is. 2 weeks after release I did a playlist with the best Origami King Tracks for a mountaineering trip, and my thoughts kinda were like: "Oh, that one's good too, and that one, and this is also gold..". Ended up with having around 30 tracks with me and I let the playlist play 27/4. And even after 4 days with just these 30 Tracks, I didnt get tired of them at all. And that was 2 weeks after release, after that I discovered even more songs I actually really love. I am not here to debete on Origami Kings actual quality, I am even tired of reading those bebates. I am just here to show how grateful I am that this game and its soundtrack exist, as it earned its spot over Color Splashes in my heart. Had a blast playing the game, had a blast writing these comments about the music, and will always have a blast hearing it again.
Never, and I mean NEVER has a Mario game had me shaking and trying to hold back tears at its ending before. Olivia has to be my favorite Mario partner! My older sister’s name in real life is in fact Olivia, so it made me even more attached to the character for that personal reason, which in turn also made me very heartbroken to see her sacrifice herself at the end for Mario and his friends. Such a wonderful game, definitely worth it!
@@foxtail286 Oh yeah, I’ve played Galaxy. It’s one of my favorite 3D Mario games! I know what part you’re talking about and yeah, it’s pretty sad. It had me tearing up a bit too.
Coming back to this comment, I also know someone in real life called Olivia and we've known each other for over a decade. So that made me attached to the character a bit more as well. This is just such a wonderful game, I can't say it enough.
What a great game. It’s not classic Paper Mario, but it doesn’t need to be. The writing, the graphics, the SOUNDTRACK OH MY GOD. The battles are fun and the coins have a purpose. The partners are great to have around, the locations are varied and interesting, the boss fights are fun and don’t rely on trial-and-error anymore... it’s just a tight experience. It’s better than TTYD in my opinion, and right on par with PM64. It’s a solid game, and a great time. Thank you, Yoshi, for uploading the music to this game. It’s been really fun tuning in every night and listening to the new tracks. I’m gonna miss it, but thanks to you, I can listen to these whenever I want, in nice quality of course. Thanks again. Good luck with school, dude.
I've heard people say that there's really no point to battling because it just gives you money on top of your already inflated wallet, but personally, my only gripe is that Peach wasn't very important to the plot despite what the trailer led to believe
Rifltz Yeah I agree. I would’ve liked a greater emphasis on story and characters. To be fair though, Paper Mario was never really about the story. Only SPM had something beyond a basic RPG plot
TheSpontaneousBlaid And? The story was NOTHING to write home about. PM64 was literally just “Bowser stole a thing go stop him” and TTYD was “evil bad guys want treasure get the macguffins”. Yeah it was a storybook but what was actually *in* the book wasn’t anything special
@@Nattegoya My opinion on all PM stories from worst to best is this: Sticker Star -> Color Splash -> 64 -> The Thousand Year Door -> Origami King -> Super
I want to get Brain Washing Machine - machine that will let me clean my memory of choice. I want to use it to forget about this game. Forget about origami, forget about toads, forget about bosses, worlds, streamers, olly, olivia, mario and even game trailers... ...only to play this game again with the same fun i had when i firstly got it
I would call it the best staff rolling in the history of the game. Most of the games I played before were pieced together using the original songs in the game, which felt very inconsistent and lacked the excitement of completing the game. However, Origami King directly wrote a new song. It's touching, and when it connects to the theme song, it even brings this feeling to a climax. It's obviously not a sad song, there is happiness between the lines, but it can make people cry.
I love how the game actually has the nerve to keep dead characters dead! I was so expecting Bobby to float down from the ceiling like Bombette or Bobbery any second until the ghost showed up. (spoils below) And then to do the same with Olivia even if you get the secret 100% ending? Marvelous. When I heard there was a 100% completion ending I so expected Ollie and Olivia to pop up again, just fine, smiling and waving for the camera, but no! They were remade, yes, but without the fold of life so as regular origami! That's some serious guts in a "kid's" story, much less a "kid's" game.
Stuff gets even more serious in the older games. No spoiling if you haven’t played them yet, but stuff really goes down, and there isn’t always a happy ending for all the characters.
@@asherrudick3912 Oh yeah, SPM is a masterclass in feels. I wasn't expecting that level of course, but I also was expecting a cheap cop-out as is so common.
@@Chaosrunepownage The thing about SPM is that no characters are confirmed permanently dead aside from some of the ancients and Dimentio. Luvbi and all the citizens of the worlds that were destroyed by the void are miraculously revived, and while Timpani and Blumiere never reappear in person, their state post game is up to interpretation. Bobby and Olivia are confirmed dead, and you literally witness Bobby dying.
You know, Paper Mario: Origami King is my first Paper Mario game, no matter how much I want to say that this is the one of the best Paper Mario I can’t. I know some people hate this game but I can’t help but love it. The cutscenes, music, characters, design and mostly everything is just amazing. I’ve only finished a this game a few months ago, even though I had it since it’s release, the game hasn’t aged much at all. I honestly can’t wait for another Paper Mario. I hope the next game takes notes off of this one and make it even better. This game is now one of my favorite games, right behind Mario Odyssey. Thanks for reading this!
@Jadeyen_ I totally agree with you about PMTOK. It was also my first Paper Mario, and it’s one of my favorite games of all time. I’ve played some of the older games, and they’re lovely, but TOK remains my favorite.
My first Paper Mario game was Sticker Star. Despite what you might think, I was a dumb kid and was too stupid to dislike it and even now, seeing all it’s flaws in full glory after a recent re-playthrough, it still wasn’t the worst thing ever. This was my second game, years later, and as much as I love TTYD after playing the remake, this game just holds a special place in my heart. It worked around the mandates to create an extremely memorable plot, to the point where a character whose whole character is being generic became quite possibly my favorite PM partner, and his sacrifice being pretty heart wrenching even on subsequent playthroughs. More could certainly have been done with the battle system, but it isn’t bad, and the bosses are some of the best in the series. People say the Legion of Stationary are uncreative, but they each have their own personalities, with Hole Punch and Scissors being the stars. Even though TTYD is objectively better than this, Origami King will always be my favorite. Some jerk is going to tell me my opinion is stupid, aren’t they?
I listen to this all the time, credits music in Mario games is always so good. It perfectly sums up the games and their music. It's beautiful to listen to. This song really does reward you for beating the game.
Honestly, I didn't think I would love a modern Paper Mario game as much as The Origami King. It definitely had its flaws, the combat may not be as in-depth as The Thousand Year Door, nor is the plot as deep as Super Paper Mario, it may not even have original designed partners or NPC variety...but I'm fine with that. For me, the pros this heavily outweigh the cons in this game. The journey and exploration was a blast, the dialogue was witty, the boss fights were fun and really made the combat system shine, the cast of characters were very colorful and a joy to be around, and the music in my opinion was hands down my favorite in the series thus far. One of my favorite video game soundtracks in general. And for as simple as the plot was, I still enjoyed it for what it was and what it did. It made me care for the characters both new and old, and there were moments that really tugged on my heartstrings. In the bleak times we currently live in, this was definitely a game that helped lift my spirits. Origami King has the charm and soul of the Paper Mario games back then, and that's basically all I could ever ask for. I can always play Bug Fables if I'm ever wanting to itch that classic Paper Mario feel, and it's a fantastic game in its own right as well.
Not the grand fanfare of Prisma Splash, but a really great, catchy tune that gives you just enough time to reflect on the adventure. I personally think this might be my favorite paper Mario, although I’ve really enjoyed every one I’ve played (all but 64 and SS). I can see why people might take issue with the battle system, and the lack of NPC variety is definitely still an issue, but the areas and characters of this game are some of my favorite of the series. I hope more people end up giving this game a chance. I finished it 100%, and can easily say it’s one of my favorite switch games
As someone said before, the difference between this and Prisma Splash is the context. One is a massive parade celebrating the entire game whereas this is supposed to be a driving song. Which one you'd rather have is personal preference but it's really good at what it's supposed to be.
Man, this game was just overall amazing. I loved the story, the music, the visuals, and.. the tOadS This game was just so charming, like a lot of the other games! I do feel like it’s possible this is the last Paper Mario game, because like other people have said, they used 2 different things in this game: confetti and origami. I can’t really think of how they would change it up this next time if they do make another, but I would like whatever they push out to be fairly honest. I think they nailed this game, and everything really just being super fun and always keeping you occupied. While there are improvements that could be made(like Olivia constantly pointing out the blatantly obvious things such as “oh wow! You got max hearts increased!” and whatnot), but out of all of it, I think it is just a super cool game.
I personally liked Olivia chatting, it made her feel like a friend to mario instead of just a guide, but yea i get where you're coming from. Also, nice job commenting on all of the songs in the ost, well, most anyway. There's always someone like you in the osts of games..nice job boyo, I'll see ya next paper mario!
It was a good game. And it had a lot of high points but I really just wish they would ditch the over abundance of toads and refine the battle system. This game is so so so close to being a really really fantastic game but it sadly just falls a tiny bit too short to make it as replayable as I would of liked it to be.
This makes me so nostalgic and sad. Out journey is done, and Olivia and Bobby will never come back. Yet it’s worth, as the toads are all celebrating and the world is fixed. But the costs to get there..
This game was absolutely amazing. Easily one of the best games i’ve ever played. The story was incredible, the humor was stellar, the characters were AMAZING, I enjoyed the battle system, the boss fights were amazing, and the MUSIC WAS- 2:40 OH MY GOD IS THAT THE RED STREAMER THE- anyways I didn’t think I would like it so much since I was never into RPG-like games but here we are.
This is like the most beautiful song in the universe, this is a pure masterpiece, et the most epic final bouquet you could ever imagine for this game !!!!
I've never really put it into words before, but this game kind of changed my life. I almost didn't even buy it, but I'm so glad I did, because it quickly became my favorite game of all time. Even beating Super Mario Galaxy, which was my favorite for... Almost my entire life. It kind of scares me that I almost missed out on one of the most impactful video game experiences of my life, by nearly deciding against pre-ordering a game I hadn't even watched the trailers for on a whim. It makes me sad sometimes, how many Paper Mario fans overlook the game. The series has changed a lot over the years... And I know not everyone looks at this game and adores every inch of it like I do, but even so, it's clear to see there's a great path ahead. There was so much love put into every aspect of this game. I can't believe it's almost been 3 years. I started a new playthrough today. It feels silly to admit it, but I'm crying as I type this. I've never cried much, but this game does it without fail. I don't think I've ever cried as hard since, as I did the night I first saw the credits roll, listening to this song. And that ending, listening to this game's gorgeous soundtrack... I think it's beautiful in a way, how something I've become so familiar with still manages to make me cry and laugh. Thank you, Origami King. Thank you, Paper Mario. Thank you, Olivia. I really couldn't be more grateful that I played a video game. The day I bought it, the car ride home as I stared at the cover art, I could have never imagined it would mean so much to me. Seeing everyone else pour their heart out here, I just had to say it. I'll never forget the hours I've put into this game. I'll love it until the day I die... I couldn't ever say it enough. Thank you, Origami King.
when I sometimes say I can relate to a comment, it’s always exaggerated but i relate to this comment on another level. this game definitely taught me some things. even the music itself was enough to get me through some.. times and just… wow. Ive beaten the game atleast a dozen times now and I still love it. i really hope paper mario stays this way. i definitely saw why people disliked this game while starting it out but by the blue streamer I already felt stupid for even thinking that way. the rollercoaster of emotions this game will send you on is like nothing I have ever seen, and it actually made me tear up multiple times before the final streamer OR the ending. both of laughter and sadness. the amount I owe to the paper mario series is close to just myself. games like color splash definitely weren’t the best but when I finally got to play it i really saw why people didn’t like it as much as origami king. it didn’t hit as hard and I disliked how it saved all that sad stuff for the end and… basically this game changed me on levels I can’t describe. made me realise that everyone has and will have a bobby in their life and will lose a person they love one day, and even made my life a bit easier at times. they are definitely called role play games for a reason. you have to take a big role that changes you in so many ways.
Everything about this game was beautiful! From the soundtrack, writing, and challenging battle system, this game still brings back tons of memories that I hope to keep. It’s one of those games that make you feel bad for beating it. (The ending is so pure and heartwarming too). My man Kensuke truly out did himself.
The game didn't exactly do what the first two games did with the characters, but I do think they did it right here. Being on Bowser's side and playing around with Toad characters made me laugh so many times
I love this credits music. It's triumphant while also letting you relax after a long, emotion-filled journey. I love this game so much, thank you for uploading it Yoshi!
Personally I love its atmosphere. All the other paper mario games have these giant parades, meanwhile this one is just mario and luigi driving home with all the areas you've visited in the background. Its simple, yet sooo effective, and the music compliments it perfectly!
The transition from the ending scene into this was incredible, I replayed the ending 4 times in a row after I beat it just to see it again(although I kept coming back every week to battle olly a few times, Gosh was that battle fun)
Absolutely awesome song. I freaking love Paper Mario: The Origami King even though Nintendo was holding back some stuff from this game, and even thought I will not be able to relieve that same level of wonder and excitement when I first played it, I'll cherish the memories I had with this game. I'm so excited to see if Nintendo decides to make another Paper Mario game in a similar style like this one. Also, this game inspired me to make a Five Nights at Freddy's 3D animation collaboration using one of that game's songs (not this song, but rather a more ominous song). It's genuinely surprising, and very awesome.
Ok where do I even start this game was amazing The writing/story is so well built up to having little bits of lore there and there to piece together the timeline. However the music OH MY GOD THE MUSIC IT WAS AMAZING FOR AN UNDERSTATEMENT I don’t how much they had to pay to hire the best music composers in the world but it was well worth it to make people question how video game music can sound this good. Another thing I’d like to talk about is the characters they were so funny and heartwarming so there’s sacrifices were really sad but at least they can see each other in heaven. I got this game a few months after it came out in 2020 and oh my God, I’m so thankful that I got it on my birthday because this quickly became one of my top three favourite games the game literally made me try to hold back to tears so and the amount of hate this game got does not deserve it so I’d like to end the speech by saying to the future generation do not let this game die and please stop being blinded by nostalgia and welcome change. Thank you for listening.
yeah I like it when games like these don’t save all the sad stuff for the ending. it hits way harder when you get to look back at everything that’s happened along the way stacked on top of the ending
Man, what a phenomenal game! As someone who hasn't played much Paper Mario, I had a genuine blast with this game. Very well-written story with great characters, an amazing soundtrack, and visuals. While the battle system could've been implemented better, they were still creative. I have a feeling a few years from now, many people will call this game underrated. Also, props to that violinist, you can tell they had a blast playing this song.
I agree with ya. It doesn’t have to be such a spectacle. I mean it’s the ending. It should be a little toned down at that point. It’s too overwhelming the way SS and CS did parades. When Mario RPG and Paper Mario 64, it was more calmer.
Honestly, this game got me into playing the rest of the paper mario games. And so far, they are all fantastic. This game thoroughly changed my life, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Hopefully I'll find a copy of TTYD so I can play that too, but none of them will live up to the feeling of pure joy I get from this game! May luck go to the next game in this franchise.
Took me a while to round out listening to the game's entire sound test (8 months), but this is an appropriate way to end it. What an OST! Swapping out most of the composers really did something for the game's music, so it sounds like a blend of the great adventure style from TTYD, strong use of motifs from SPM and Color Splash, 64's more light-hearted songs, and Color Splash's genre variety. Mix it with some signature apocalyptic rock from Yoshito Sekigawa, and you get this master-album.
Such an amazing end credits theme. This whole soundtrack is perfect. I'm not sure if I'd have loved this game as much if the ost wasn't as good. Regardless, this was still one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Made 2020 a little better
I feel like Bobby and Professor Toad should deserved more attention because, they were only used for 1 chapter. After they have done there part, Nintendo forgets about them and not seeing them in the game (except the end of the game). They deserve more and this game too. I really love the Paper Mario series and it’s really unique.
@@leonmystique9372 The TTYD remake did wonderful mixing both eras and just imagine TTYD's diversity of cities and worlds mixed with TOK's big grand areas.

Had a blast playing the game, had a blast writing these comments about the music, and will always have a blast hearing it again.

bro, never thought a mario game would make me almost tear up over origami. olivia was a really fun character, she was my favorite.
Yeah, Olivia and Bobby I'd say are both just excellent and definitely my favourites.
Super Mario Galaxy had a similar effect if you played it. I won't spoil the ending but it's pretty sad
@@foxtail286 Oh yeah, I’ve played Galaxy. It’s one of my favorite 3D Mario games! I know what part you’re talking about and yeah, it’s pretty sad. It had me tearing up a bit too.
SPM had that effect on me personally, if Tok made you feel like that, then just wait until you see Super's ending
Coming back to this comment, I also know someone in real life called Olivia and we've known each other for over a decade. So that made me attached to the character a bit more as well. This is just such a wonderful game, I can't say it enough.
R.I.P. Olivia, for your cheerfulness and smile will never be forgotten...
And RIP Bobby the Bob-omb.
Well, if she had a smile, but smiling eyes are good enough I guess
Thanks so much friend!
@@Nattegoya My opinion on all PM stories from worst to best is this:
Sticker Star -> Color Splash -> 64 -> The Thousand Year Door -> Origami King -> Super

2:37 my favorite part.
The violin solo is SO dang good
Not to mention the streamer battle undertone
I love how the game actually has the nerve to keep dead characters dead! I was so expecting Bobby to float down from the ceiling like Bombette or Bobbery any second until the ghost showed up.
(spoils below)
And then to do the same with Olivia even if you get the secret 100% ending?
Will you try the previous ones?
@@reversalmushroom yes, absolutely, I started some Super Paper Mario but I’ve been playing other games so i haven’t gotten around to playing it
@Jadeyen_
I totally agree with you about PMTOK.
I cried through this whole thing and didn't even listen to it :(
Hey, man. You're not alone. I can't even listen to this song without shedding a few tears.
I listen to this all the time, credits music in Mario games is always so good. It perfectly sums up the games and their music. It's beautiful to listen to. This song really does reward you for beating the game.
This is my favourite song.
ever.
Even outside of games.
That's how good this is.
While I get why The Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario are people’s favorites, this Paper Mario game will still live so far on as mine.
3:45 “the journey is finished”
Not the grand fanfare of Prisma Splash, but a really great, catchy tune that gives you just enough time to reflect on the adventure. I personally think this might be my favorite paper Mario, although I’ve really enjoyed every one I’ve played (all but 64 and SS). I can see why people might take issue with the battle system, and the lack of NPC variety is definitely still an issue, but the areas and characters of this game are some of my favorite of the series. I hope more people end up giving this game a chance. I finished it 100%, and can easily say it’s one of my favorite switch games
I agree with literally every word you just said
what's wrong with PM64?
@@naufanabd I just meant that I've played every paper mario except for 64 and Sticker Star
CosmicCloud
Eh, if you’ve played TTYD and CS, you’ve played better versions of 64 and SS, so you really don’t have to play them.
As someone said before, the difference between this and Prisma Splash is the context. One is a massive parade celebrating the entire game whereas this is supposed to be a driving song. Which one you'd rather have is personal preference but it's really good at what it's supposed to be.
Why do Nintendo staff credits always hit so hard and this is one of the best I’ve heard 🔥
Man, this game was just overall amazing. I loved the story, the music, the visuals, and.. the tOadS
This game was just so charming, like a lot of the other games!

Happy 4th anniversary to paper Mario the origami king
Thank you, Origami King.
when I sometimes say I can relate to a comment, it’s always exaggerated but i relate to this comment on another level. this game definitely taught me some things. even the music itself was enough to get me through some.. times
and just… wow. Ive beaten the game atleast a dozen times now and I still love it. i really hope paper mario stays this way. i definitely saw why people disliked this game while starting it out but by the blue streamer I already felt stupid for even thinking that way. the rollercoaster of emotions this game will send you on is like nothing I have ever seen, and it actually made me tear up multiple times before the final streamer OR the ending. both of laughter and sadness. the amount I owe to the paper mario series is close to just myself. games like color splash definitely weren’t the best but when I finally got to play it i really saw why people didn’t like it as much as origami king. it didn’t hit as hard and I disliked how it saved all that sad stuff for the end and…
basically this game changed me on levels I can’t describe. made me realise that everyone has and will have a bobby in their life and will lose a person they love one day, and even made my life a bit easier at times.
they are definitely called role play games for a reason. you have to take a big role that changes you in so many ways.

Ok where do I even start this game was amazing
The writing/story is so well built up to having little bits of lore there and there to piece together the timeline.
